The headlines on Friday were that the economy created 216,000 jobs, more than expected and a sign of continued strength in the economy. “This morning’s report confirms that 2023 was a great year for American workers,” President Joe Biden said. Hurray! But wait a minute. The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) previously reported that there were 157,087,000 “non-farm payroll” jobs in November. The number of these jobs in December, it now says, was 157,232,000. That’s a gain of only 145,000.

Not so long ago, John Roberts patiently explained to reform-minded folk on Capitol Hill that the Supreme Court had no need for an ethics code. It was December 2011, and despite a recent scandal involving unreported income for Clarence Thomas’s wife, Roberts assured in his year-end report to Congress that the justices were policing themselves just fine. They followed laws that required them to report major gifts (Thomas’s lapse aside, presumably), and they used the lower-court code of conduct as “guidance,” even though it wasn’t binding.

Welcome to 2024! Since New Year’s Day one year ago, the “electric vehicle transition” has gone from being a foregone conclusion to being a rolling failure. Auto manufacturers who bought into the hype are looking at a catastrophic financial miscalculation, and typical car drivers have gone from being curious (at best) to being generally negative about purchasing EVs. I believe that the conservative media’s pushback against EVs has had a considerable impact.

In 1862, Dakota Indians went on a mass murder spree, butchering more than 600 innocent whites, mostly women and children. The Indians murdered babies, beating their brains out and nailing them to trees. They tortured children. They engaged in gang rape on a mass scale. That slaughter was the worst massacre by either whites or Indians from 1492 to the present. On a per capita basis, it was five times the carnage of September 11. If that narrative sounds familiar, it should. What the Dakota did in 1862 was remarkably similar to what Gazans did on October 7.

The Democrats’ march to Year Zero continues apace with the Biden regime’s proposed removal of a Civil War Memorial that marks the grave of the memorial’s Jewish sculptor who is buried at its base. The memorial’s removal would also necessarily desecrate the graves of numerous Confederate soldiers buried nearby.
The memorial is intended to celebrate the post-war reconciliation of the North and South, a celebration of unity that apparently rankles Democrats and their rabid desire for division and destruction.

On Thursday afternoon, the day before the beginning of Hanukkah, a man named Mufid Fawaz Alkhader went to a synagogue, Temple Israel in Albany, N.Y. He was carrying a shotgun and fired two shots. According to police who went to the scene, he screamed “Free Palestine.” The FBI is now hard at work, trying to figure out his motive. No kidding.

A Denver Public School parent is suing the district, claiming the district's policy allowing pride flags to be displayed discriminates against students who are heterosexual and cis-gendered.
The father who filed this lawsuit, Nathan Feldman, argues his two elementary school children who attend the K-8 Slavens School are being prohibited from exercising their freedom of speech among other allegations after failed attempts to have a "straight pride flag" displayed at school.

A Denver judge declined on Friday to find Donald Trump is ineligible for the state's 2024 presidential ballot because he allegedly engaged in an insurrection, following a similar path as courts elsewhere that have rejected attempts to disqualify the leading Republican candidate.
District Court Judge Sarah B. Wallace found the provision of the 14th Amendment barring insurrectionists from holding office does not apply to presidents and, therefore, does not disqualify Trump.

These are hard times for conservative Catholics ... they have had to watch their church gradually but steadily abandon many of its bedrock principles in what was at first an attempt to stay "relevant" but now looks very much a hostile takeover by the forces of relativistic "progressivism." Under a series of weak and/or malicious popes, beginning with the unaccountably sainted John XXIII and continuing to the present day in the reign of the regrettable Pope Francis, the Church has abandoned its liturgy, its core beliefs, its traditions, its probity, and its sexual morality. Can things get worse? Of course they can.

An Anti-American coalition in the heart of the White House.
Formally introducing his cabinet to the public, Joe Biden proudly declared: “This is the first [time] in American history that the Cabinet looks like America.” Looking at the actual appointments and not just the gender, skin color and ethnic origins of the Biden team, it is a team that may look like America but doesn’t think like America. In fact, it is a team whose outlook is anti-American.

I've been writing about Denver-area baker Jack Phillips for over a decade now. It’s clear to me he’s going to be badgered into the grave by authoritarians intent on punishing him for thought crimes. From the first time his name appeared in the news until this day, the media have misled the public about him, about the case, and about the law.
The latest chapter in Phillips’ Kafkaesque saga involves a transgendered lawyer named Autumn Scardina, who demanded Phillips create a pink cake with blue frosting to help celebrate a “gender transition.” As expected, Phillips, who’d already spent years fighting government coercion, refused to participate.

During the Trump presidency, Pentagon officials refused to follow orders, substituting their own policies over the constitutionally ordained authority of their Commander in Chief. We know that officials lied about troop strength in Syria, attempted to undermine and kill the peace initiative with the Taliban in Afghanistan, and refused to call out the military to quell civil unrest during the George Floyd riots. This is gross insubordination.
