The Christmas season flies by, doesn't it? It's hard to believe that it's Christmas Eve, and of course, this year it happens to be a Sunday.
You may already be feeling the stress of Christmas being so close. Maybe there are presents to wrap — or presents to buy. Maybe you have food to cook in anticipation of family or friends coming over. Maybe you're juggling church, entertaining, and travel on a Christmas Eve Sunday.
My Christmas Eve this year began with an early-morning rehearsal for Sunday morning services, followed by leading worship. My family will have our yearly tradition of eating supper at Waffle House,

Your thoughts, comments, and ideas are always welcome here. But we ask you to please be mindful and respectful. Threatening or crude language doesn't persuade anybody and makes the conversation less enjoyable for fellow L.Dotters.

I'm sick of the way Christmas is celebrated and displayed with the elimination of any reference to the birth of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ
!!! Jesus Is The Reason For The Season !!!

I have enjoyed two candle light services this evening, the first at my former Baptist church and the second one where I now attend - a Methodist church. They were both beautiful and both churches were filled with people. A joy to behold!

Peace on earth and goodwill towards all men. If meant sincerely it is more than enough!

But when the fullness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law,
To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons.

26 years ago today, at 8 a.m., while we were preparing to leave for Christmas morning mass, I received a phone call from one of my sisters, telling me that dad had passed away! We always celebrated Thanksgiving with the folks in Phoenix, so that we could enjoy Christmas with the kids at home in Louisiana. We immediately headed for Phoenix and drove straight through. I'm sitting here writing this, while the wife gets ready for Mass. When we get back, we'll spend part of the day at my sons, but my dad will always be with us in spirit, as he has been every Christmas since 1996. Needless to say, Christmas is not as joyous as it used to be! But I wish everyone on this salon a very merry Christmas!

"for today in the city of David there has been born for you a Savior, who is Christ the Lord." (Lu 2:11)
Of all the people in the Roman Province of Judea (Israel) for the Messenger Angels to announce the greatest event in all of eternity, it was to a small group of sheep herders, camped outside the seemingly insignificant town of Bethlehem, in the vicinity historic King David, youngest son of Jesse, obediently kept his father's sheep as a boy. That shepherd boy, David, would hone his skills as Israel's greatest warrior, while honing his knowledge and love for the Lord God of Israel to one day step forward from obscurity and bravely deliver his nation from the entire Philistine army by defeating their greatest warrior, Goliath, the giant. In David's time, shepherds were not held in low esteem, but several hundred years later in the time of Jesus, the religious ruling class had decreed the occupation of "shepherd" as being, "ceremonially unclean," meaning they would be prohibited from even entering the Temple, or to participate in the mandated sacrifice, looking forward to their Messiah. The Lord God of Israel, who had long ago proclaimed a shepherd boy to be the "apple of His eye," announced the birth of the "King of Kings and Lord of Lords," not to political rulers, or royalty of the time, but to a small group of socially low, religiously "unclean," men in the fields of Jesse to be the witnesses and heralds of our Savior's birth. Jesus was born in a "manger," which was not only used to feed animals, but also to deliver baby lambs, and so it was that the perfect, "Lamb of God," to us was born. The infant Jesus was wrapped in "swaddling" cloths, which was a specific cloth used to wrap the bodies of the dead for burial, foreshadowing His future death. But with His death, burial, and resurrection, just as the young shepherd boy, David, delivered his people from Goliath, Jesus Christ would defeat the most insidious enemy of ALL people, which is death. He is, the Good Shepherd of His Father's Flock, to all who believe in Him, the Lord Jesus Christ, as their personal Savior.
"Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life; the one who believes in Me will live, even if he dies," (Jn 11:25)
Happy Birthday Jesus!

#6 - Thirty years ago on Christmas Eve Eve, December 23rd, Our Lord called my mother home. I know the jarring juxtaposition of a parent's death at this time of year. A friend of my sister had the same experience and shared with us, "Jesus calls His favorites home for His birthday."
I'm off to lector at this mornings 8am Mass at our little country church. Merry Christmas to all my sister and fellow Ldotters.
Our King and Lord is Born this Day. Joy to the World!
