The Atlantic’s Tim Alberta took his book tour to the Tuesday edition of CNN NewsNight with Abby Phillip where he warned that Evangelical Christians who support Donald Trump are not that different than Vladimir Putin.
Phillip began by reading a quote from Cal Thomas, “You kind of touched on this in your book. You talk about Cal Thomas, who plays a pretty important role in the rise of modern evangelicalism. And he said this to you about evangelical Christians. He says, ‘you can't have a legitimate conversation with these people who are all in on Trump, because if you find any flaw in him, even flaws that are demonstrable,

I say you can't have a legitimate conversation with liberals who voted for Biden.
They are either morons or so mentally crippled with TDS, that even though they see higher prices, a weak military, and millions walking across the border they just ignore it and watch the old man making a fool of himself daily.

Yes, when you asshats focus on minor flaws in Trump's behavior, I focus on the HUGE number of truly fantastic things he has done for the country ,for freedom, for all our prosperity. So, yeah, when you point out his flaws, I brush them aside. Yep, he's flawed, just like EVERYONE else, but overall, he's been about the best president of my 70+ decades of life.

Have you noticed that just about EVERYTHING is lies, massive exaggeration at best these days? That pretty much everyone is an amateur propagandist these days? (Even the professional propagandists are amateurish, because they aren't very bright and mostly repeat the same lies that hundreds of other propagandists have already spread... there is very little creativity among them).
And that with 'AI' available they can easily produce 'documentation' of their lies; and that is only going to get worse as the technology is improving exponentially, and more people are becoming adept at its use.

Typical lib. If you push back against their authoritarian point of view, YOU are the authoritarian. Not only do they want you to “hear what they are saying,” they demand agreement. When I see the state of the world and the Controligarchs that run it, being called Putin is not such a bad thing.

Says the anti-freedom totalitarian want-a-bes. Saul Alinski's "Rules for Radicals" says to accuse your enemy of what you yourself do. They want to malign Trump supporters as wanting to destroy democracy. That's the latest DNC talking point.

The author identifies as being a practicing Christian and the son of an evangelical pastor. His book focuses on “the American evangelical movement” as he perceives it is being seen through “the eyes of televangelists and small-town preachers, celebrity revivalists and everyday churchgoers.” In his discernment, he “tells the story of a faith cheapened by ephemeral fear, a promise corrupted by partisan subterfuge, and a reputation stained by perpetual scandal.”
He posits love of country “given way to right-wing nationalist fervor, a reckless blood-and-soil idolatry that trivializes the kingdom of Jesus Christ.” Among his points of retracing the movement, he cites President Trump’s “presidency and the COVID-19 pandemic as having accelerated historical trends that long pointed toward disaster” and culminated in a “strange new environment in which loving your enemies is ‘woke’ and owning the libs is the answer to WWJD (what would Jesus do).”
He investigated ways conservative Christians “have pursued, exercised, and often abused power in the name of securing this earthly kingdom” using a disconnect from Scripture among their weapons of warfare such as contradicting “the dictates of the New Testament, today’s believers are struggling mightily against flesh and blood, eyes fixed on the here and now, desperate for a power that is frivolous and fleeting ... Lingering at the intersection of real cultural displacement and perceived religious persecution.”
Ultimately, describing the “wreckage” he observes as “pastors broken, congregations battered, believers losing their religion because of sex scandals and political schemes” and asks: “If the American evangelical movement has ceased to glorify God, what is its purpose?”
First and foremost, to declare Evangelical Christians supporting President Trump not being different than Vladimir Putin in the sense of Vladimir Putin being evil through and through is not only dishonest, it is outrageous, insulting, beyond the pale and, justifiably, alerts Evangelical Christians to fixate on the integrity of the author, his research, and conclusions. While Vladimir Putin may be evil, only God knows what is truly within the man’s heart; he allegedly prays everyday in a small chapel next to the presidential office.
In fairness to the author, his concern about the adherence and preservation of true Scripture is shared by people deeply committed to such adherence and preservation with “new age” and, frankly, nondenominational Christianity. Without going into finite detail, Scripture is the inerrant Word of God and when disregarded, there is just cause to be wary of and/or depart from the dangers they present to one’s soul. Indeed, wayward evangelical clergy have sullied the perception of Evangelicals, but those transgressions should not be applied across-the-board to all Evangelicals.
The word evangelical comes from the Greek (euangelion) and Latin (evangelium) words for “good news,” which evolved into the word gospel, and has long been in use as far back as the 16th century. The extent to which the author alleges today’s Evangelical Christians have “used” Scripture as a means to an end that he asserts is wrong, needs to be challenged; it is the liberal mind-set that refuses to understand and abide by the Word in its truth, love, and discipline.
Evangelicals supporting President Trump are not religious zealots, they are devout Christians hungering for someone who shares their love of God, family, and country. They are sick and tired of being lied to by politicians in both parties and simply looking at and appreciating a man who has put his life and family in harm’s way to preserve and revere the very foundation of this country, “In God We Trust”. Evangelicals supporting President Trump ARE seeking to glorify God and bring this country back to that foundation: “IN GOD WE TRUST”

Well, if caring about your country is comparable to Putin, what about all the other countries who give a rat's about their borders and crime. Are they "Putins" also?
