Surging farebeating is a sign of bad things
to come: Reverse the soft-on-crime trend now

New MTA reporting shows farebeating on buses and subways is still rising — a clear warning that broader public disorder is ahead. Just what New York needs when Mayor Adams is looking to shrink the NYPD. Reminder: A crackdown on farebeating was the first major step in the city’s historic gains against crime starting back in the 1990s. Bill Bratton, then chief of the MTA police, directed that effort in order to make the subways safer: If you commit a casual crime to enter the system, he realized, you become more likely to commit worse crimes while you’re there.

Comments:

Turnstile jumping must be stopped! If they can't afford to pay for the subway to get to where they're going - - let them do some carjacking.

So what's the big deal, everything is free to the Bums, why not a ride...just make the ride very ugly for the jumpers. You've heard the term 'Under Da Bus'?

Lawless anarchy is their goal. I'm sure they think their losses will not pay the cost to hire a guard to help the driver enforce payment.

They'll release hard crime perpetrators as fast as they come in, but will go after turnstile violators. Makes sense, turnstile jumpers are depriving the 'leaders' of cash to care for the fresh new voters from the Southern border!

Poster 5 beat me. Mayor Giuliani knew and enforced, the broken windows theory and the city cleaned up. Take a small percentage off the streets and everyone is better off. Except those who thrive on increasing anarchy.

It is not that they’re wasting their time on minor crimes. It is that very often since the bad guys don’t follow any rules at all when they were arrested at the turnstile, they’d have three open warrants, and might be backing a gun to boot.

Sen. Mitt Romney said he would vote for a Democrat over former President Trump or businessman Vivek Ramaswamy in a potential 2024 general election matchup. “I’d be happy to support virtually any one of the Republicans, maybe not Vivek, but the others that are running would be acceptable to me and I’d be happy to vote for them,” Romney said to CBS news host Norah O’Donnell in a clip which resurfaced online Saturday.

DUBLIN — In the 12 months leading up to April this year, 141,600 immigrants landed in Ireland. The Irish population has increased by more than 2%. If the US had similar immigration, it would mean 9 million extra people. This is the highest level since the prosperous “Celtic Tiger” era of the late ’90s. Ireland’s non-nationals comprise a whopping 20% of the population. The tinder box of immigration blew open Thursday with a mass riot in Dublin following the stabbing of a number of young children outside a school near the main street.

Vice President Kamala Harris’ Thanksgiving tweet backfired after eagle-eyed social media users noticed her using a cooking appliance that the Biden administration floated banning earlier this year. “From our family to yours, happy Thanksgiving,” Harris posted on X Thursday, including a photo of her next to second gentleman Doug Emhoff, a casserole and a gas stove. Harris, 59, was roasted over the post, with many conservatives accusing her of “hypocrisy.”

Hundreds of “radicalized” kids rampaged through the halls of a Queens high school this week for nearly two hours after they discovered a teacher had attended a pro-Israel rally — forcing the terrified educator to hide in a locked office as the teen mob tried to push its way into her classroom, The Post has learned. The mayhem at Hillcrest High School in Jamaica unfolded shortly after 11 a.m. Monday in what students called a pre-planned protest over the teacher’s Facebook profile photo showing her at a pro-Israel rally on Queens Oct. 9 holding a poster saying, “I stand with Israel.”

The Washington, D.C. Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) announced the nation’s capital has surpassed 900 carjackings over the past year as Americans. The MPD’s carjacking dashboard shows 901 total year-to-date carjackings and only 157 year-to-date carjacking arrests. In all, 77% of carjackings committed in the federal district involved a firearm. In addition, 66% of arrests involved a juvenile defendant, highlighting D.C.’s ongoing problem with youth crime at a time when the D.C. Attorney General is being criticized for his comparatively soft approach to youth crimes.

The upcoming United Nations (UN) climate conference in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), known as COP28, appears likely to have a larger carbon footprint than any previous UN climate change summit. More than 70,000 people are expected to show up to COP28, about 25,000 more people than last year’s summit, COP27. The conference, which runs from Nov. 30 through Dec. 12, will focus on global strategies to reduce emissions and accelerate the shift away from fossil fuels in favor of green energy.

The impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden is gaining momentum as more evidence comes out to back allegations that the president himself financially benefited from the overseas business dealings of his son, Hunter. While Republicans will find it very difficult to get the needed supermajority to impeach Biden, the mounting evidence and media coverage would be another obstacle for Biden to overcome as he campaigns for reelection.

Eric Adams ran for office on a public-safety platform two years ago. His crime record is mixed, but public safety isn’t just crime: E-bike and e-scooter battery-fire deaths are reaching “staggering” levels, his fire commissioner says. So it’s not good the unrelated corruption suspicions swirling around the mayor involve . . . pressuring the FDNY to ignore safety rules, rules that inconvenienced donors and their friends. The familiar story unfolded again last week: A powerful fire obliterated a Brooklyn brownstone.

Like Longfellow’s little girl, who had a little curl right in the middle of her forehead, sometimes ad agencies are very good indeed, and sometimes they’re horrid. When they’re good, it’s worth taking note because, as with all media, those short videos have a disproportionate effect on the American psyche. In the case of Chevy’s holiday ad, that effect can only be good. When I grew up in the 1960s and 1970s, in the pre-streaming age, you watched ads whether or not you wanted to. These years were the heydays of jingles and slogans. Indeed, for us, jingles were a family tradition.

According to a new Washington Post story, the Biden team is at its wit's end. They don't know what to do to convince the American people that the economy is in good shape. Of course, part of the reason they're failing so badly is because people know how much more they've had to pay for everything, and they see the high interest rates. Young people who would like to buy a home can't even do so in the current economy. But they're still trying to sell this to us, such as by claiming Thanksgiving was cheaper this year.
