Minnesota has its first-ever Somali-American mayor.
Winning in all but one of St. Louis Park’s 12 precincts, Nadia Mohamed won by more than 1,300 votes – also becoming the city’s first Black mayor.
Making history in the west metro city is not new for Mohamed. When she was elected to the St. Louis Park City Council in 2019, she was the first Muslim, Somali-American, and youngest person to ever be elected to the council. On Monday morning, a group of more than 100 Minnesota Jews gathered at Gold Medal Park and then marched roughly half a mile to the office of U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar (D-Minnesota), calling for her support for no more war and violence.
During the hour-long march, they sang Hebrew songs of peace.

Call it a labor of love, in a northeast Minneapolis warehouse.

McLendon is an intern with the group ‘Memorialize the Movement.’
This weekend, the organization, founded by Leesa Kelly, is busily archiving and organizing about 1,000 pieces of plywood art..

5 EYEWITNESS NEWS looked at city payroll records and found between 2020 and 2022, the Minneapolis Police Department had 273 officers leave their jobs.
During that same three-year time period, the city hired 117 new officers, which equates to a net loss of 156 officers and an average net loss of 52 officers over the last three years.
If that trend were to continue, MPD would have fewer than 400 sworn officers. As recent as 2019, MPD had about 900 sworn officers on its payroll.

Minnesota Management and Budget Commissioner Jim Schowalter might need a chiropractor to help him with the budget whiplash he’s witnessed during two stints in the job. First under DFL Governor Mark Dayton when he had to help solve a $6.2 billion budget deficit and then under DFL Governor Tim Walz when he helped craft a plan to spend or give back nearly $18 billion.
