Former Secretary of State and 2016 Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton said Thursday on CNN’s “Primetime” she believed there needed to be a “formal deprogramming of the cult members” who support former President Donald Trump.
Clinton said, “You saw the number of Republicans who voted along with Democrats to keep the government open, so there’s clearly a common sense, sane part of the Republican caucus in the House. But I think they are intimidated. They oftentimes, you know, say and do things which they know better than to say or do. It will require us defeating those most extreme measures and the people who promote them

Donald Trump is not a great man. His rhetoric, which has included denunciations of those who have served in the military (while he dodged the draft five times with a limp excuse about bone spurs) ought to disgust all but those who are in complete denial of the danger he would pose to the Constitution and the country should he be re-elected president. Humility is not part of his vocabulary and words mean something, especially when they reflect character. In the latest "indictment" of Trump's virulent rhetoric, his former chief of staff, John Kelly, issued a statement in which he says he witnessed Trump insulting wounded veterans and others.

Fox News will exclusively host and televise the upcoming debate for the House speakership, now that the gavel is up for grabs after Representative Kevin McCarthy was ousted in a historic Tuesday vote.
Bret Baier will moderate the debate between House Majority Leader Steve Scalise of Louisiana, Judiciary Committee chairman Jim Jordan of Ohio, and Representative Kevin Hern of Oklahoma on Monday in the Capitol, Punchbowl News first reported. The debate will not be open press, the publication said, which means reporters other than Baier will be barred from the room.
Fox is still determining whether the debate will be live or pre-taped.

The pope — or, rather, whichever committee of handlers dictates his public utterances — had some stern words recently for Westerners and their “irresponsible” lifestyles.
Via CNN (emphasis added):
Pope Francis has made his strongest statement yet on the accelerating climate crisis, pinning blame on big industries and world leaders as well as “iresponsible” Western lifestyles, in a blistering statement on Wednesday. (snip) “Some effects of the climate crisis are already irreversible, at least for several hundred years, such as the increase in the global temperature of the oceans, their acidification and the decrease of oxygen,” he wrote…

Israel's military has declared a 'state of war' after Islamic militant group Hamas fired a claimed 5,000 rockets into the country early on Saturday.
Forces in the country have ordered residents to remain indoors and air raid sirens are sounding in Tel Aviv and Jerusalem after Hamas militants 'infiltrated' the country in several locations near the Gaza border in southern Israel.
Hamas supreme military commander Mohammed Deif said the operation, Al-Aqsa Storm, was a declaration that 'enough is enough' as he urged Palestinians to confront Israel.

Liz Cheney is jumping into the fight over who will be the next Speaker of the House, and she's brought with her (a) desperate warning: Don't elect Rep. Jim Jordan to the position. (snip) How many times can you cry about "democracy" being in danger before people just tune you out? (snip) CHENEY: "Jim Jordan knew more about what Donald Trump had planned for January 6th than any other member of the House of Representatives. Jim Jordan was involved, was part of the conspiracy" (snip) She's like Uncle Rico still talking about how far he can throw a football. Is there any depth to Cheney at this point?

CNN commentator Adam Kinzinger said Friday on CNN’s “The Lead” that Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) was a “Christian nationalist” who is very dangerous. (snip) He (Kinzinger) continued, “The thing that you need to understand about Jim Jordan is he is a true believer, but he truly believes that the Democrats, or the left, is an enemy of America and he will do anything even extra constitutionally to defeat them. That is his genuine belief.”
He added, “I would put him in the camp of Christian nationalist where he believes that he is truly fighting the dark forces”

Rep. Matt Gaetz, Florida Republican and psycho killer, led the smallest caucus in Congress this week across the aisle and into the lap of Democrats. He and his Suicide Caucus joined 208 Democrats to remove former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy from his post. What a day that was. So much for the so-called Hastert Rule that the Suicide Caucus claims to treasure so dearly. Requiring support from a majority of Republicans for floor action apparently applies only to Mr. McCarthy. Such slippery people. Annihilating the Hastert Rule is, you might say, the ultimate RINO move. These people are into making flippy-floppy, and doing it far, far, far better.

With the vast expansion of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, you can bet that there are a lot of agents twiddling their thumbs and trying to figure out something to do with themselves, conscious that only political work, not hard-slog investigation, gets rewarded. So this came out from Newsweek: The federal government believes that the threat of violence and major civil disturbances around the 2024 U.S. presidential election is so great that it has quietly created a new category of extremists that it seeks to track and counter: Donald Trump's army of MAGA followers.

CLAIM: President Joe Biden on Friday claimed that the American people know that they are better off financially than they were before his presidency.
“I think they know they’re better off financially than they were before. It’s a fact,” Biden said. (X Video) Verdict: False and false.
Biden is making two claims here. First, that the American people are better off than they were before his presidency. Second, that the American people know that they are better off.
Both are untrue.

President Joe Biden’s nominee for the federal bench in Oregon dreams of a day when Supreme Court justices disclose their pronouns on legal rulings, a practice he says will show the federal judiciary’s "authentic commitment to equity and inclusion."
Mustafa Kasubhai, who currently serves as a federal magistrate, laid out his vision for the usage of pronouns in the judiciary in a 2021 essay, "Pronouns and Privilege." (snip)
In his essay, Kasubhai describes a telephone conference call with an out-of-state attorney. When Kasubhai pressed the lawyer to state his pronouns so the judge would not just assume them, the lawyer retorted: "I’m not interested; just go ahead and assume."
Comments:
The number of TV commercials he runs on Fox seems to be diminishing.
