Lego has abandoned plans to make its famous bricks from recycled plastic bottles, saying that the manufacturing process would be more polluting than the current production of oil-based bricks. [snip] The toymaker has pledged to use only sustainable materials in its products by 2032 and, two years ago, unveiled a prototype brick made from recycled PET. The plastic was sourced from bottles that are typically used for water or soda. Since then, however, Lego has found that making bricks from the recycled material would require investing in new equipment and involve more steps, which would ultimately lead to more planet-heating pollution than the status quo...

After four years of investigating and litigating, Letitia James was finally due for her day in court against Donald Trump. But with that day fast approaching — a trial in her civil fraud lawsuit against him is scheduled to start Oct. 2 — the former president’s lawyers threw a legal Hail Mary that could delay the case and seeks to gut it altogether. The last-ditch move that left the trial in limbo came in a familiar form for the famously litigious Trump: He filed a lawsuit.

As the clock continues to tick towards a possible federal government shutdown, questions are being raised as to how this could affect social security payments for millions of Americans. Social security payments would continue unaffected during a government shutdown, according to experts, but contacting the Social Security Administration (SSA) in the case of problems may be more difficult. If lawmakers do not find a solution by October 1 and a shutdown does occur, the 66 million recipients of social security will still receive their complete federal monthly checks - which averages at $1,827 for retirees.

In 2018, MPR News senior editor Mike Mulcahy was moderating a contentious debate between GOP gubernatorial candidates Tim Pawlenty and Jeff Johnson. Mulcahy tried to keep the discourse civil, as the two candidates traded barbs over who supported then-President Donald Trump and whether Johnson had called him a “jackass.” “Mike very humorously interjected, ‘Not to be a jackass, but we’re going to change the subject,’” recalled MPR News political reporter Brian Bakst. “And he changed it to something that was more serious, that would matter to voters as to which one of these guys could potentially be the next governor.”

Former President Donald Trump last year recruited ex-Sen. David Perdue to oust Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp from office after he refused to help the then-commander-in-chief overturn Joe Biden's 2020 presidential victory in the state. Perdue eventually lost the GOP gubernatorial primary in a landslide. And Kemp has repeatedly chided Trump over his continued claims about 2020, arguing that the party cannot win in 2024 if they continue to hark back on the past. But in an interview, the two-term Republican governor told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution on Saturday that he would still back Trump as the Republican nominee should the former president win the party's 2024 nomination.

Rodney Hall made history last month when he won the Republican primary for a Mississippi Capitol seat, setting him up to become the first Black Republican elected to the legislature since the Reconstruction era.But that wasn’t his goal when he decided to run for the open seat in District 20, which runs along Mississippi’s border with Tennessee border. In his first bid for elected office, Hall, who won his primary by 10 percentage points, said he focused on his experience as a local prosecutor and on his conservative values.

Gal Luft, the fugitive “missing witness” of the Biden corruption investigation, has offered new evidence to the House impeachment inquiry about an FBI mole who tipped off Hunter Biden that his Chinese partners had been named on four sealed indictments in 2017 by Manhattan federal prosecutors in the Southern District of New York. The Israeli professor, and former Israel Defense Forces officer, has been on the run for six months, after skipping bail in Cyprus where he was awaiting extradition to the United States on gun-running and foreign-lobbying charges, also brought by the SDNY. In an open letter to Reps James Comer, Jim Jordan and Jason Smith, the three House committee chairmen

Independence, Mo.—It’s a Monday in September, but with schools closed, the three children in the Pruente household have nowhere to be. Callahan, 13, contorts herself into a backbend as 7-year-old Hudson fiddles with a balloon and 10-year-old Keegan plays the piano. Like a growing number of students around the U.S, the Pruente children are on a four-day school schedule, a change instituted this fall by their district in Independence, Missouri. To the kids, it’s terrific. “I have a three-day break of school!” exclaimed Hudson. But their mom, Brandi Pruente, who teaches French in a neighboring district in suburban Kansas City, is frustrated to find herself hunting for

Shocking photos show the violence Border Patrol agents are being subjected to at the US-Mexico border - while video shows more than 5,000 asylum seekers illegally boarding a freight train to gain entry into the country over the weekend. Republican Maya Flores shared the shocking graphic images of a badly bloodied federal agent after an alleged altercation with an uncooperative migrant near McAllen, Texas. 'This is the type of violence that is being exerted on Border Patrol Agents by those who don't want to be apprehended,' the former official wrote, some six months after leaving her post this past January.

Former President Donald Trump called on Senate Democrats to resign in light of the Sen. Bob Menendez (D-NJ) corruption charges, saying they all knew. The former president issued his call from his Truth Social page on Sunday, asking why the FBI never raided Democrats’ homes like they did at Mar-a-Lago. “Senate Democrats should all resign based on Senator Bob Menendez! They all knew what was going on, and the way he lived. Why doesn’t the FBI raid Senate Democrat’s homes like they illegally raided Mar-a-Lago, where nothing was done wrong based on the Presidential Records Act,” he wrote.

Failed former presidential candidate Hillary Clinton has warned that Russia could allegedly interfere with the U.S. elections in 2024. Speaking with former White House press secretary Jen Psaki, Hillary Clinton said that Russian President Vladimir Putin could indeed interfere again. “He has indeed interfered in our elections in the past,” Psaki began on her MSNBC show Inside With Jen Psaki. “It’s not something, as you experienced firsthand, is not something we talk about a lot. Do you fear that that is something that could be happening for 2024, do you think we should be talking about it more?”
Corrupt Media Worse Than Crooked Senators replies

Most voters take for granted that a certain percentage of our elected officials are susceptible to corruption. This is a view we have in common with the Framers of the Constitution, who well understood the temptation political power holds for avaricious politicians. Consequently, most of them would have found the bribery indictment of a New Jersey senator unsurprising and only mildly interesting. They would, however, have been alarmed by the obvious attempt by the corporate media to use the Menendez story to distract public attention from a far more dangerous influence peddling scandal involving the President of the United States.

How do you make sure they don’t stay at home, congressman?” Clyburn said, “They will not stay at home. We understand what’s at stake here.” He continued, “The problem with me is I spend too much time studying history, and I see what’s going on here. I know where the playbook
