What It’s Like to Live Under Russian Occupation

In the West, when we hear news that an area in Ukraine has been liberated, we likely feel a short sense of relief: but we don’t grasp the full extent of what this means. In reality, the experience of being occupied by the Russian invaders is utterly nightmarish. It was for Galyna Matyoshko. It involved the murder of one son and the permanent injury of her other son. Her older son has had 18 surgeries and will never completely recover. For Matyoshko, this nightmare will likely follow her for the rest of her life.

Re #3. and do you have any factual basis for you slander? I have been in contact with multiple friends in Ukraine who DO live under Zelensky and they are free and happy when the Russian missiles and bombs are not falling on them. Even the ones far from the fighting have difficulty obtaining what they need at times. Hateful, vicious and entirely ignorant comments are really sad, and the nastiness just baffles me. Where is the ordinary compassion one should have for people who have had their country invaded? I just wonder why such eager consumption of the Russian anti-Ukraine propaganda happens in this country by some.

Turn the clock back 2 years and Ukraine was desperately downplaying any potential invasion. Even as Russian troops amassed on the border they were drinking coffee in cafes. People like Matyoshko were urged to go about their daily lives. Perhaps Ukraine should have been steeling their citizens for an invasion and amassing their own troops along the border with Russia.

back in the '50's there was a program on called "I Led Three Lives" with Richard Carlson playing the lead - it was about the communist element in our country and their machinations to undermine the government and steal secrets, etc - it was very well done and showed how the FBI (very pre-comrade obama dissolution of the FBI) days were legitimate and actually fought the commies instead of joining them - I Googled it and there is quite a lot of information on the program and it preceded the McCarthy hearings on the rise of communism in the U.S. - we had it right back then but the communists were beginning their involvement in colleges and the press and diluting all the bad news with puff pieces on the subject so, the public lost interest, so sad that happened

President Joe Biden is seeing a series of economic, political and personal challenges pile up on the domestic front as he travels to New York City intent on making the case for American leadership on the global stage. The White House is confronted by an autoworkers’ strike that Biden himself had predicted two weeks ago wouldn’t happen. Biden’s Republican critics in the House have launched an impeachment inquiry. Administration officials are seeing gas prices rise, taking a wait-and-see approach for now. Biden’s son is freshly indicted on federal charges. And Congress is barreling toward a potential government shutdown at month’s end.

Donald Trump is intent on leaning into his criminal cases to boost his 2024 campaign through the election next year, according to multiple people close to the former president, after he tested that strategy through multiple indictments and decided it gave him major political advantages. The summer was devastating for Trump from a legal perspective, after he was charged with retaining national security documents in Florida as well as with seeking to overturn the 2020 election in Washington and in Georgia, the trials for which will occur before the election.

A recent report published by America First Legal (AFL) details how the FBI weaponized the federal background investigation process to deny Republican presidents — specifically Donald Trump — the ability to make political appointments in an “institution-wide” violation of the Privacy Act, the Paperwork Reduction Act, and other federal statutes. Institutional disregard for the FBI Manual of Investigative Operations and Guidelines (MIOG) further contributed to this.

President Joe Biden is trumpeting Medicare’s new powers to negotiate directly with drugmakers on the cost of prescription medications — but a poll shows that any immediate political boost that Biden gets for enacting the overwhelmingly popular policy may be limited. Three-quarters of Americans, or 76%, favor allowing the federal health care program for the elderly to negotiate prices for certain prescription drugs. That includes strong majorities of Democrats (86%) and Republicans (66%), according to a new poll from The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research. About one in five Americans are neutral on the issue, while 6% outright oppose it.

There is much to be learned about power and the press from the fact that former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson once evaded a reporter’s tough questions by hiding in an industrial fridge. The reporter, Jonathan Swain of Good Morning Britain, ambushed Johnson at Modern Milkman dairy, where he was stopping for a folksy photo shoot in December 2019. For months, Johnson, a former journalist himself, had refused to be interviewed on prime-time breakfast television. If Johnson wouldn’t go to Good Morning Britain, then Good Morning Britain would go to him. Swain, broadcasting live to a national audience,

The G20 Summit held in New Delhi on Sept. 9 and 10 was, from the perspective and needs of the West, a lot of sound and light signifying not very much. Some Western observers might call it a super-sized nothing burger for them. But one thing is clear: The G20 is a talking forum without any executive powers, unable to prioritize anything — and it has tilted toward the Global South, which comprises developing countries. The G20 Leaders’ Declaration was festooned with a mindboggling array of commitments in an assemblage of fields such as climate, public health, sustainable and inclusive growth, technological transformation, taxation, digital ecosystems, food and energy security,

John Hawkins’ Culturcidal blog at Substack is often a great place to see interesting discussion of important topics, especially on Democrats, and Hawkins’ latest entry is no exception. In a post Monday, Hawkins noted that tons of statistics out there indicate a level of gloom in America that perhaps hasn’t truly existed until now. But something Hawkins pointed out was particularly striking. He caught part of a podcast in which lefty pundit Tim Ferriss was interviewing marketing guru Seth Godin, and Ferriss said this:

WASHINGTON (AP) — Michael White had only recently arrived in a grim Iranian jail when a curious fellow prisoner, an English-speaking Iranian, approached him in the courtyard for a conversation. The American did not reveal much at first, but it was the beginning of an unlikely friendship between White, a Navy veteran imprisoned on spying charges he says were unfounded, and Mahdi Vatankhah, a young Iranian political activist whose positions on social issues had drawn his government’s ire. As the men connected behind bars over a shared interest in politics and human rights, they developed a bond that proved vital for both.

Schumer (D-NY) quietly directed the Senate’s Sergeant at Arms to stop enforcing the dress code that mandates male senators wear a jacket and tie and female senators a dress or other businesswear on the floor, Axios reported Sunday. The change in policy comes after Fetterman (D-PA) was bashed by conservatives for donning a hoodie, gym shorts and sneakers to the chamber. Many called his casual fashion choices disrespectful. “John Fetterman’s attire in the Senate perfectly summarizes Democrats lack of respect

The senators’ letter comes on the heels of the Senate Armed Services Committee’s unanimous approval for the Department of Defense to send long-range missiles to Ukraine.

Equality of outcomes is communism. The people who are leading us don’t even understand or like the core concepts of the country and they tell us with their own words and actions on a nearly daily basis.

The Soviets successfully pulled off a number of dirty tricks which increased their power but impoverished their citizens. Among them was to stir up class warfare by politicizing envy. Thus, unsuccessful farmers were urged to demonize and even kill “kulaks” -- that is, any productive farmer in the area. Another trick was to fail to provide factories with sufficient raw materials to fulfill the overly optimistic state-set production quotas and then criminally prosecute factory managers who couldn’t meet these targets as "saboteurs.” It deflected from their own failures but unsurprisingly resulted in a shortage of qualified managers and engineers.

Biden's Monday morning filing cites two major examples in IRS agents Gary Shapley and Joseph Ziegler, two whistleblowers who claimed the IRS mishandled aspects of its investigation into Biden. In addition, Biden is demanding $1,000 in damages for "each and every unauthorized disclosure of his tax returns,"
