Opposition to Rep. Kevin McCarthy becoming House Majority Leader was palpable on the right at the beginning of 2023. During a drawn-out fight, Rep. Chip Roy and other conservatives held up his promotion to secure a new rules package and guarantees surrounding investigations.
Eventually, McCarthy secured the votes after making several concessions, and at that point, it was fair to wipe the slate clean. He deserved a chance to prove himself, and for the most part, he's been a fairly good leader who has kept his promises regarding investigations into the weaponization of government and the Biden family's corruption.

A federal judge handed down hefty sentences against two members of the Proud Boys for their role in attacking the Capitol on January 6, 2021, one who broke open a window to the building and another who took over the leadership role of the group that day.
Their sentences, both among the longest yet of the over 1,000 people charged as part of the riot, are emblematic of how judges are working to separate key figures who furthered the violence that day from those who were swept up in the crowd.
“If we don’t have the peaceful transfer of power, I don’t know what we have,” District Judge Timothy Kelly said

Shares of several big media and entertainment companies tumbled Friday as investors considered the potential fallout from an impasse between cable giant Charter Communications and media titan Walt Disney Co.
On Thursday, Disney said it had pulled major networks such as ESPN and ABC from Charter systems after the two companies could not come to terms on a renewal of their carriage license. Charter’s systems reach a little under 15 million subscribers in markets that include New York City and Los Angeles. Charter raised eyebrows Friday morning by declaring that it could not strike a traditional renewal pact with Disney while more cable subscribers were fleeing to streaming video on demand.

After the Biden administration teased the idea of relocating New York City migrants to the Atlantic City International Airport in New Jersey, the state’s Democratic governor has come out and publicly refused to cooperate.
“I don’t see any scenario where we’re gonna be able to take in a program in Atlantic City or, frankly, elsewhere in the state,” Governor Phil Murphy said during his appearance on News 12 New Jersey on Thursday night. “We are already seeing folks in New Jersey that have probably swelled into New Jersey from New York or other locations, but you need scale, an enormous amount of federal support,

The U.S. Border Patrol arrested 91,000 migrants who crossed as part of a family group in August, breaking the previous one-month record of 84,486 that was set in May 2019.
Last month, families became the single largest demographic group crossing the border for the first time since President Biden took office, according to preliminary data obtained by the Washington Post. That title previously belonged to single adults.
More than half a million migrants who arrived as part of “family member units” have now surrendered at the border this fiscal year, breaking yet another record.

The White House briefing room has been the site of a lot of bad and bizarre things. Most of that stuff has come from the mouth of White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre or other members of the Biden communications team or the liberal media reporters spouting the spoon-fed narrative.
We saw on Thursday how Jean-Pierre was left stammering and disturbed when asked about Biden's biographer saying Biden admitted to being frequently "tired." Jean-Pierre also had blown off the question of why the doctor was with Biden the day before, claiming that she wasn't aware of the situation. If it wasn't a scheduled visit, that raises even more questions.

Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp (R) stood by Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis and dismissed Republican calls to impeach Willis over her 41-count indictment against former President Donald Trump and 18 others.
Kemp dismissed calls to impeach Willis as “political theater” during a press conference on Thursday. In mid-August, Georgia state Sen. Colton Moore (R) announced an initiative to begin an emergency session to investigate Willis, as Breitbart News exclusively reported.
“As a Georgia State Senator, I am officially calling for an emergency session to review the actions of Fani Willis,” Moore said. “America is under attack.

Former President Donald Trump’s criminal trial in Fulton County, Georgia, will be televised and live-streamed on the internet, Fulton County Superior Court Judge Scott McAfee announced Thursday.
McAfee will also allow reporters to use their computers and cell phones inside the courtroom so long as they are not used to record the trial. McAfee’s announcement is aligned with Fulton County policy that broadcasts judicial proceedings on its YouTube channel.
No trial date has been set in Trump’s Georgia case. Georgia’s rules are the opposite of those in New York and the federal court system, where Trump faces three other criminal cases. Cameras are not permitted

A Texas law banning transgender care for minors will go into effect on Friday, now that the state Supreme Court has lifted a temporary injunction issued by a lower court.
Last week, a Texas district judge ruled that the law banning the medical transition of minors violated the rights of transgender children, as well as the alleged rights of doctors who follow “well-established, evidence-based” medical guidelines. After the judge issued the temporary injunction, Texas officials immediately appealed to the state Supreme Court, the highest court for civil cases in the state.
The order from the Supreme Court lifting the injunction provided no further explanation as to the constitutional reasoning behind

A policy that determines when people can be charged with low-level drug offenses in Harris County has once again been altered, according to an internal memo from the Harris County District Attorney’s Office.
In April, the DA’s office implemented a policy that placed the responsibility for drug testing for suspected narcotics weighing less than four grams on law enforcement before they could file a possession charge with the county. Now, as of August 27, the policy has largely been reversed due to the “increasing public safety threat of fentanyl,” according to the DA’s office.

Los Angeles City Council leaders filed two separate motions on Wednesday pushing for legal action against Texas and Gov. Greg Abbott over the busing of migrants to the region.
A total of 11 buses carrying asylum seekers have arrived in L.A. since June, with the latest getting to Union Station on Wednesday. The last bus carried 35 asylum seekers from Guatemala, Honduras, Peru, Venezuela and even Russia. The council members voted unanimously on both motions, with one calling for a probe investigating whether Abbott’s actions violated any criminal laws, like kidnapping and human trafficking. Some council leaders argue many families traveled on lengthy bus rides

A former top organizer for the Proud Boys who was convicted of seditious conspiracy and other felonies stemming from his leadership role in the Jan. 6 assault on the U.S. Capitol was sentenced on Thursday to 17 years in prison.
Joseph Biggs, a U.S. army veteran, was a leader of the group's Florida chapter and a close ally of the former Proud Boys chairman Enrique Tarrio. Biggs was convicted of seditious conspiracy in May alongside two other Proud Boys leaders following a more than four-month-long trial. In handing down his sentence, U.S. District Judge Timothy Kelly accepted the government's recommendation to apply an enhancement that effectively
