Opposition is in full swing to the Los Angeles Dodgers’ on-field ceremony honoring the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, an organization of “drag nuns” that the Catholic League calls an anti-Catholic hate group. Thousands of Catholics, other Christians, and even some people of the Jewish faith gathered in a parking lot near the Dodgers’ stadium on Friday afternoon to pray ahead of the game. Later, the religious groups marched to Dodger Stadium, shutting down one entryway on Vin Scully Avenue.
Weeks of momentous opposition led to the drag nuns being announced on-field to a mostly empty stadium, while receiving some boos from baseball fans in attendance.

During Friday’s CNN This Morning, the network covered 16 young people suing the state of Montana over climate change. Chief climate correspondent Bill Weir portrayed the young people as the heroes of a movie where they attempt to fend off the Republican-controlled government, despite admitting that the lawsuit would not change anything even if the judge ruled in favor of the plaintiffs. The lawsuit merely singled out Montana Republicans and blamed them for the existence of fossil fuel. CNN called it “fascinating” and “such a great story.” The case hinged on the following clause in the Montana state constitution: “The state shall maintain and improve a clean and healthful environment

A hypothetical 2024 poll shows that former President Donald Trump is tied with President Joe Biden in Michigan, a state the Republican won in 2016 but lost in 2020, in a hypothetical general election matchup. The EPIC-MRA poll, released Friday morning, shows Biden and Trump in a dead heat in the Wolverine State at 44 percent apiece. Another 12 percent are either undecided or refused to answer. Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) performs slightly better in a hypothetical head-to-head with the 80-year-old Biden, leading 45 percent to 44 percent. In that matchup, 11 percent of the poll participants are undecided. Trump narrowly won Michigan over twice-failed Democrat presidential candidate Hillary Clinton

The United Kingdom has opened an inquiry into what worked, what didn’t, and what can be done better in light of the experience the country had during the COVID pandemic.
Gee, what a concept.
They are at just the beginning stages, so we have no idea how it will turn out, but early indications are that it at least won’t be solely a whitewash.
Again, what a concept. Actually trying to learn something from experience rather than confirm one’s priors. It’s almost as if covering everybody’s asses isn’t the sole value.
The opening of the inquiry laid some cards on the table: nobody had a clue what they were getting into, and nobody

Barack Obama popped up for an interview on CNN with his old pal David Axelrod and took off after Senator Tim Scott. Scott is running for president and Obama is in a snit about a conservative black man with a compelling life story running for the top job. Scott doesn’t divide Americans along racial lines or present a positive vision of the American Dream so he must be trashed by jealous Democrats.
Ponder back to the days of Barack Obama in the White House. He suckered in voters with a phony upbeat message of Yes, We Can and giving voters the hope and change schtick. Not only did

Daniel Ellsberg, who leaked the Pentagon Papers and was labeled the “most dangerous man in America” by Henry Kissinger, has died at age 92.
Ellsberg announced in March that he was terminally ill with pancreatic cancer, sharing on Facebook: “When I copied the Pentagon Papers in 1969, I had every reason to think I would be spending the rest of my life behind bars. It was a fate I would gladly have accepted if it meant hastening the end of the Vietnam War, unlikely as that seemed (and was). Yet in the end, that action—in ways I could not have foreseen, due to Nixon’s illegal responses

One of the great frustrations I have with most of the Republican candidates for president, especially including Donald Trump, is that they are talking about Donald Trump all the time.
The 2020 election is in the rearview mirror, and the 2024 election should be–must be–about America’s future, not whether and how much Donald Trump is being persecuted by his enemies or betrayed by the people that he hired. Trump keeps talking about himself, and everybody else is either talking about Trump or knocking Ron DeSantis.
Politically speaking there is a reason why they are doing this–they need to stand out from the pack and to knock down the top two candidates

Late last December, while shopping at Target, I noticed something peculiar about the wrapping paper in Christmas clearance merchandise: Nobody was buying the gay pride-themed items, despite the fact that they were marked down to 90 cents a roll. I wrote about that here.
Now that there's been a hullaballoo at Target over its aggressive merchandising of LGBTQ+ promotional items, which drove its stock down for a period, and forced it to move its prominent displays in some outlets, how are those sales going? Well, on a visit to Target on Balboa Avenue in San Diego on May 30, where the merchandise had just been pulled back from immediate visibility

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) weighed in on the raunchy display that occurred at the White House during last weekend’s “pride” event, deeming it “totally inappropriate” and asking how such an ideology is appropriate for classrooms.
“They had at the White House, you know, this transgender flag as the precedence over the American flag. That’s wrong. That is not how you display the American flag,” DeSantis said to applause during a press conference in Fort Pierce, Florida, on Thursday.
“I think when you have the inappropriate conduct at the White House, with like transgender[s] flashing people nude and all this stuff, you know, just totally, totally inappropriate,” he said.

Christine McCarthy, Disney's chief financial officer, will step down from that role, the entertainment giant said Thursday.
She will take a family medical leave of absence, and during that time, she will continue as a strategic advisor to Disney, the company said. McCarthy will also help find a long-term successor, Disney added. Veteran Disney executive Kevin Lansberry, who currently works as finance chief for Disney's parks business, will become the company's interim CFO effective July 1. "I am immensely grateful for the opportunity Bob provided me to serve as CFO of this iconic company and am proud of the work my talented team has done to position Disney to capitalize

Two online focus groups of swing voters in North Carolina caught the attention of Axios and they reported on them. It is not good news for Joe Biden and his bid for re-election. The groups were comprised of 11 North Carolinians. They were a mix of three registered Democrats, one registered Republican, and seven independents.
It should be noted at the top that this is a very small sample of voters, too small for any significance but it does give a general feel of how voters are thinking and talking about current events. Before anyone gets too excited that swing voters think Biden is too old to be president,

Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-Calif.) might be Patient Zero for a new condition: DeSantis Derangement Syndrome. Newsom is in many ways the Bizarro DeSantis — governing a state with an enviable climate and incredible natural beauty. And just as DeSantis is fighting many of his state’s political wars from the right side of the aisle, Newsom hits from the opposite side. While Newsom has aimed his arrows at other red states — with billboards hyping the “freedom” of California as well as the state’s abortion tourism industry — he particularly loves to go after DeSantis and Florida. He even bought ad time on television in the Sunshine State encouraging Floridians
