News of former President Donald Trump’s indictment by a Miami grand jury Thursday was stunning, if not entirely surprising. There had been indications leading up to the announcement that it was imminent. One would be hard-pressed to find people who don’t have an opinion regarding the former president, and the same holds true regarding the latest indictment.
According to a new ABC/Ipsos Poll, fielded June 9-10, 2023, nearly half of those surveyed believe Trump should have been indicted (regarding the classified document retention). The poll found 48 percent of the 910 respondents agree that Trump should have been charged with a crime in this case, while 35 percent

The Sunday London Times, out today, has a long, long article about the origins of the covid-19 virus in the lab at the Wuhan Institute of Virology. Until the far-off day when Chinese sources open up honestly, it will stand as definitive proof of not just the lab leak hypothesis, but the conclusion that covid-19 was a human creation. Its conclusions are unqualified:
Scientists in Wuhan working alongside the Chinese military were combining the world’s most deadly coronaviruses to create a new mutant virus just as the pandemic began.
Investigators who scrutinised top-secret intercepted communications and scientific research believe Chinese scientists were running a covert project of dangerous experiments

Senate Republican leaders, including Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), are staying quiet about former President Trump’s indictment on 37 criminal charges, letting him twist in the wind and breaking with House Republican leaders who have rushed to Trump’s defense. McConnell, who is careful not to comment on Trump or even repeat his name in public, has said to his GOP colleagues that he wants his party to turn the page on the former president, whom he sees as a flawed general election candidate and a drag on Senate Republican candidates.

Mexico’s pro-migration government is threatening to retaliate against Florida’s pro-American governor, Ron DeSantis, whose campaign-trail border policies are putting him on a collision course with Mexico’s president.
“The Government of Mexico emphatically condemns the practice of transporting migrant persons from states bordering Mexico toward other parts of the United States with electoral and political ends … Legal and diplomatic measures will be explored,” said the June 8 statement from Mexico’s foreign ministry. DeSantis’s campaign promises — and his flights of migrants to California — pose a growing political threat to the pro-migration policies

Former Scottish First Minister Nicola Sturgeon, who dominated politics in Scotland for years, was arrested Sunday by police investigating the finances of the governing, pro-independence Scottish National Party. Police Scotland said a 52-year-old woman was detained “as a suspect in connection with the ongoing investigation into the funding and finances of the Scottish National Party.” “The woman is in custody and is being questioned by Police Scotland detectives,” the force said.
UK police do not name suspects until they are charged. The BBC and other media outlets identified the arrested woman as Sturgeon. The party did not immediately comment.

Billionaire left-wing Democrat donor George Soros is handing control of his $25 billion financial empire to his younger son Alex who has vowed to pursue even more ultra-liberal causes. The newly crowned 37-year-old heir told the Wall Street Journal he will broaden his father’s famously woke interests to include issues like voting and abortion rights as well as “gender equality.” He has already visited the White House 17 times in just over a year and met
He also feels bound to inject himself into the day-to-day political affairs of the nation ahead of the 2024 election.
“I’m more political,” Alex observed when comparing himself to his Hungarian-born financier father.

A Texas businessman at the center of the scandal that led to the historic impeachment of state Attorney General Ken Paxton was charged Friday with making false statements to mortgage lenders to obtain $172 million in loans.
The federal indictment of real estate developer Nate Paul, who was arrested Thursday, is the result of a yearslong FBI investigation - a probe Paxton involved his office in, setting off a chain of events that ultimately led to his impeachment and suspension from office last month. Paul was charged with eight counts of making false statements while seeking loans from mortgage lenders in 2017 and 2018.
Prosecutors said each count of making false

Bud Light and Target still don’t seem to be able to dig themselves out of the hole that they got themselves into.
As I wrote on Thursday, Bud Light is continuing its nightmare plunge, so much so that they’ve now tumbled out of the “number one beer in America” spot. It’s been taken over by Modelo Especial. All their competitors have gained ground. Now, most distributors believe the problems will continue for several months at least, with some believing that Bud Light will never be able to recover some of the customers that they have lost.
Target stock also has continued to take a huge dive since the middle of May

The Justice Department’s indictment of former President Donald Trump is still all the rage on the airwaves and interwebs. Members of the chattering class have been chiming in, giving their two cents on the matter. Renowned Harvard law professor Alan Dershowitz recently offered his opinion on the case during an appearance on Newsmax in which he indicated that Trump’s situation is precarious, but his fate isn’t necessarily sealed.
According to Dershowitz, the indictment against Donald Trump is partly serious and partly expected, as possessing classified material may not be damning due to potential defenses under the Presidential Records Act. However,

China has been spying on the United States from a base in Cuba, a Biden administration official said on Saturday, claiming that “this is an issue that this administration inherited.”
The Wall Street Journal, followed by POLITICO and other outlets, reported on Thursday that China had been in conversations with Havana to establish a new spy base in the island nation. That same day, the White House and the Pentagon said the reporting was “inaccurate,” without going into details. On Saturday, an administration official clarified by saying that the Chinese base in Cuba has already been established, noting that it didn’t happen on their watch.

He was found unresponsive in his North Carolina prison cell Saturday morning and was pronounced dead at about 8 a.m. Saturday, Kristie Breshears, a spokesperson for the Bureau of Prisons confirmed to USA TODAY. A cause of death was not immediately known. He was serving a life sentence after sending by mail a series of homemade bombs around the country. He pleaded guilty to setting 16 explosions that killed three people and injured 23 others.

On Friday’s broadcast of Fox News Radio’s “Guy Benson Show,” author, National Review Contributing Editor, Fox News Contributor, and former Assistant U.S. Attorney Andrew McCarthy stated that while former President Donald Trump does have ample reason to say he’s been singled out, the indictment against him is “a devastating document. If they can prove half of it, he’s toast.” And he believes more than half of what’s in the indictment can be proven.
McCarthy stated, [relevant remarks begin around 35:35] “It’s a devastating document. If they can prove half of it, he’s toast. And I sense that they can probably prove more than half of it, because a lot
