PBS: 'Sickening' GOP Calls Trump Indictment
'Selective Prosecution'

New York Times columnist and the supposedly conservative half of PBS NewsHour’s weekly Friday Brooks and Capehart panel was dismayed that even “supposedly mature and moderate” Republicans were decrying President Trump’s latest indictment as “selective prosecution.” Washington Post columnist and pinch hitter Ruth Marcus went even further, labelling it “sickening.” Host Geoff Bennett led Brooks with an unrelated question about the trial being held in Florida which would mean the jury pool will be far less liberal than in New York City, “it's harder for him to make a convincing argument that he's being railroaded when it's happening in — on his home turf, as I said?”

No question, but it is so politically charged, the courts may duck it. If Trump actually can be heard on tape bragging that a document in his possession remains classified, that will be the distinction drawn. After his comments about women made to Billy Bush on the Access to Hollywood tape, it is his mouth more than his actions that get him into the most trouble. Meanwhile, a trial with 37 criminal counts could easily consume all next summer, completely overwhelming Republican campaign messaging. No one questions the loyalty of Gen. Custer. But his foolishness led to being surrounded by a larger force of Indians.

In 1789, James Madison and the framers of the U.S. Constitution, having declared independence and fought a war against the tyranny of the British monarchy, were now challenged by a weak, ineffectual national government that threatened the viability of a nascent nation. In response, they architected a new Constitution that established a tripartite government comprised of the executive (the President), legislative (Congress), and judiciary branches — each with separate, yet countervailing powers. This separation of powers with its checks and balances is the foundational cornerstone of our constitutional system of government. It is, as explained by Madison, “essential to the preservation of liberty” by guarding against the

He noted how the FBI lawyer made a false claim to the FISA court to get a warrant to surveil a Trump team member. Ratcliffe said the same kind of thing was happening in this indictment.
