Left-wing Hollywood killed the movie star, and now the chickens are coming home to roost.
Nevertheless, even as outlets like the far-left Variety finally admit to this problem, do not expect anyone to admit to the real reasons.
“Hollywood Grapples With Loss of Young Star Power,” reads the headline. The story explains the problem this way…
“The hottest package at this year’s Cannes Film Festival stars a 76-year old action star and is a reboot of a movie that first dazzled moviegoers in 1993.” Variety is talking about Sylvester Stallone and his hit movie Cliffhanger. Yep, Cliffhanger 2 is the biggest deal at a prestigious worldwide film festival:

The cohort looking for "young stars" find them on short form social media, primarily TikTok and to a lesser degree, Reels. This group finds Hollywood and fame in their hands.

There will always be big movie star draws as long as they continue to make movies. Some of the former big draws are aging, but there will be new big draws in the future. Although I have to agree that right now I can't think to many young box office gold.

I have so many DVDs and books. I find myself turning to them more and more since most entertainment now is simply not good.

Movies and TV are there to entertain; to show heroes winning and bad guys getting their just deserts. The public will pay money for that. I personally will not pay money to be preached to or to see the latest racial or ethnic flavor of the week, or the latest sexual deviancy they are trying to push. I want to see heroes I can imagine myself being.
So nowadays I watch the old TV show channels if anything. Emergency, Adam-12, Lost In Space, Star Trek, the old horse operas. Those were good shows where the good guys won and you could watch with your kids without cringing.

Market forces at work.
People are not going to pay $15 to be lectured, ridiculed, or proselytized.
They also don't want to see their favorite old movies being remade into woke PC trash.

The admission is unnecessary. There are no movie stars. No one knows any of them, or know them only for their communist views and belligerence. No one wants to see them, as evidenced by the empty theaters.

When I go to the movies I don't really care about the actors - I think 1) subject matter I care enough to entice me into spending my money to go to the theater, 2) story, 3) props. At best I see actors as supporting props - they merely deliver the story, just like the set decorations and physical props (furnishings, wardrobe, etc) all add to how well the story is conveyed.
For instance - Tom Cruise may think of himself as the 'star' of Top Gun or Top Gun - Maverick but the true stars of the movies were props like the F-14, F-18 aircraft used and the naval culture of the story and its setting. Cruise is just another convenient prop - albeit one who got fed the right lines to say and parrot them back at the right time.

Hollyweird has shot itself in the head, not in the foot.

hahahaaa... Stallone is not a star in my opinion. If they have to point to him as an example then they actually have no star in Hollyweird.

All of my favorite movie stars are either getting older (Denzel Washington, Morgan Freeman), retired (Gene Hackman, Jack Nicholson), have died (Sydney Pointier, Jessica Tandy) or have become leftwing democrat supporting stooges (Chris Evans, Don Cheadle, Samuel L Jackson, Meryl Steep, Tom Hanks). I find myself not wanting to pay movies prices for tickets and food just to watch preachy actors and actresses put forth their various agendas on screen. This goes for TV also. Case in point last week producer Dick Wolf's CBS show FBI: Most Wanted highlighted the TX governor busing illegal aliens to NYC debacle. The lead female agent called it a publicity stunt by the governor that's affecting human lives. I yelled at my TV yes human lives that shouldn't be here in the first place. That's why I'll wait until Denzel's movie The Equalizer 3 comes out soon as it reunites him with Man on Fire co-star former child actress Dakota Fanning. Also, thankfully I still have a good movie and book collection with access to classic TV channels like MeTV, Cozi TV and Heroes & Icons.

Does Tom Cruise act like he's 60?
The man is just hitting his prime.

As in everywhere else in our culture, incompetence reigns supreme. Because of DEI, CRT and affirmative action, too many people don’t put in the time and energy to work toward a difficult goal. And so we get mediocre actors, mediocre narcissists, and political activists. I have not see a good Hollywood movie in years because the pool of serious actors isn’t there as it is in Britain. I have been bored into insensibility by what is on Netflix and Prime and most other American offerings. I have to go to BritBox, Masterpiece Theatre and other places if I want good programming or movies.
I will make one exception: “Top Gun: Maverick.” That was truly awesome.

Gotta agree. There is absolutely no one in Hollyweird that I would drop everything to run out to see in a movie. Even the moldy oldy stars of the 80's and 90's have lost my attention. And anything they did in their relative youth I already have on DVD.
