Some interesting reports about the war in Ukraine today which paint an overall picture of Russia maybe being a little bit in trouble and worried about near-future outcomes. Let’s start with this Ukrainian attack on a Russian freight train. An explosive device derailed a Russian freight train in a region bordering Ukraine for a second straight day Tuesday ahead of an expected counteroffensive by Kyiv… The last four days have seen two trains derailed by explosions, a suspected drone hitting an oil depot in Crimea that caused a huge blaze and power lines blown up near Saint Petersburg.

Re #1. Never happen, total bluster and baloney. If you read about the Maquis in France during the Nazi occupation in WW2, they blew up lots of freight trains. In the Musee de l’Armee des Invalides in Paris, there is a section on the resistance fighting in WW2. Lots of interesting sections of mangled rails, blow parts on the side of steam locomotives, and other mayhem that they did. And a few cases of personal information and effects from particularly effective Resistance fighters....unfortunately with the typical ending being them caught and executed. I'm sure that Ukraine has the same sort of fighters, and has 'gone to school' on what has been done in the past by Resistance fighters in many countries. Good luck to Ukraine, I hope that they are able to regain their freedom with our assistance, without ground troops.

The Kremlin seems to consider troop morale and motivation to be irrelevant on the battlefield. Treat your own troops like dirt, don't pay them on time, keep them poorly supplied, badly fed, and indifferently led, and they are not going to stand and fight when you need them. My prediction is that when Ukraine attacks in force this season, the Russian defense lines will crack wide open.

Russia isn't dominating in Ukraine. How many generals have they fired and replaced over the last 15 months? And videos of flatcars transporting 60-year-old tank designs to the front is not a good sign for Russia. When your side is getting T-55s and T-62s, and the other side is getting Leopards and Challengers, well...you figure it out. The only place Russia dominates is on conservative website comments sections not protected by a paywall...because Russia is cheap and strapped for cash.

Former Obama-era CIA Director Mike Morell and current Secretary of State Antony Blinken were recently exposed as being behind the infamous “intel letter” that sought to dismiss Hunter Biden’s laptop as Russian disinformation. Now, a new report is providing unassailable evidence of exactly what the motive behind the gambit was. According to The Washington Examiner, Morell sent a recruitment email to gather signatories for the letter. Notably, in the email, he admitted that the entire purpose was to give Joe Biden a rebuttal to Donald Trump’s attacks during the presidential debates. You learn a lot on Twitter about banking, and it’s fascinating. Simple stuff to start, like if Jim Cramer says “This is the GREATEST [fill in the blank]!!!” I now know to giggle and run the other way as fast as I can. If I had any money, that is, so this is rhetorical, of course. Since I don’t, I’ve learned to sit back and watch whatever he’s loving explode shortly after he acts the fool about it. I’ve also learned that the people in charge of our finances right now – with Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen and Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell at the top of the power structure

The Federal Reserve on Wednesday approved its 10th interest rate increase in just a little over a year and dropped a tentative hint that the current tightening cycle is at an end. In a unanimous decision widely expected by markets, the central bank’s Federal Open Market Committee raised its benchmark borrowing rate by 0.25 percentage point. The rate sets what banks charge each other for overnight lending but feeds through to many consumer debt products such as mortgages, auto loans and credit cards. The increase takes the fed funds rate to a target range of 5%-5.25%, the highest since August 2007. Markets, though, are more focused on whether

If you are looking for a late-night show to watch instead of the tired, boring, and liberal ones that have dominated legacy networks, you’re in luck. This week the Writers Guild of America (WGA) members are on strike and the shows have gone dark. All of them except for on Fox News Channel, where the new kid on the block rules. Gutfeld! will be on the air with a new show. Jazz touched on the late-night shows going dark in an earlier post. Republicans on the Senate Judiciary Committee tore into their Democratic colleagues during a Tuesday hearing on Supreme Court ethics, accusing the lawmakers of joining with their ideological allies in the media to undermine the conservative Supreme Court majority because it stands in the way of their desired policy outcomes. The hearing was scheduled by Judiciary Committee Democrats after ProPublica published a series of articles detailing Justice Clarence Thomas’s relationship with Texas billionaire Harlan Crow. Despite the fact that Crow has not had business before the Court during Thomas’s tenure — with the exception of one case that was never taken up involving a company which Crow had a minority interest in

President Joe Biden is dispatching 1,500 soldiers to the Southern border to stem the surge of illegal immigrants that are expected to follow next Thursday’s expiration of Title 42, a pandemic-era public-health measure that allows Border Patrol to immediately expel illegal immigrants. The active-duty Army units will assist Border Patrol and will be armed, though they will only be permitted to use their weapons in self-defense. Following a request by the DHS, the Department of Defense agreed to “provide a temporary increase of an additional 1,500 military personnel, for 90 days, to supplement CBP efforts at the border,” an unnamed US official said in a statement provided to CNN.

The company, which was valued at $5.7 billion in 2017, is considering the move after struggling to find a buyer, according to reports. It comes after a tumultuous start to the year for the company, which saw Nancy Dubuc exit after five years, replaced by Bruce Dixon and Hozefa Lokhandwala, as well as the departure of Global President of News & Entertainment Jesse Angelo to launch his own production company. Last week, the company underwent the latest in a series of layoffs, streamlining its news division and canceling its signature show in Vice News Tonight.

The panel, which challenged the company's long-standing self-governing status when it replaced a Disney-backed board weeks earlier, unanimously voted to authorize a lawsuit in state court. "This district will seek justice in state court here in central Florida where both it and Disney reside and do business," board chair Martin Garcia said at a Monday morning meeting, where the legal fight was the sole topic of business. Shortly after announcing it is suing Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, Disney blocked pedestrian access to and from the U.S. Armed Forces’ flagship resort in the continental United States. The decision to do so further demonstrates that the Disney of 2023 is not the Disney of 1971 (when Walt Disney World opened) or the Disney of 1955 (when Disneyland did so). Unlike modern Disney’s previous questionable actions, however, this one comes directly at the expense of U.S. military families and veterans—and needlessly and senselessly so. Moreover, the action is tied to the Reedy Creek Improvement District, over which DeSantis, the Florida legislature, and Disney have been battling.
