Hollywood, specifically the film industry, is going through a legitimate, serious, and potentially fatal phase.
No one likes the movies anymore.
The key to a healthy industry—audience goodwill—is evaporating quickly.
Sure, there have been some recent hits. Avatar: The Way of Water just became the second-highest worldwide grosser (not counting for inflation) in history. The last three or four Marvel movies have made money. But let’s not kid ourselves. Avatar 2, just like Avatar 1, has had no cultural impact whatsoever. I know of one person who saw it, and when asked his opinion, he replied with a shrug. My guess, and this is just a guess,

We rarely go to the movies but when we do, they are carefully selected.
Top Gun, Maverick was worth every penny. Going to see Jesus Revolution today.

It’s not only Hollyweird. I watched an Irish television show last night and they’re just as infected over there. There were 12 - 15 characters in this show, 3 were gay. One was black and wasn’t even Irish. They went out of their way to find some obligatory black to put in a small Irish farm community, to play a black gay man that couldn’t even speak with a decent Irish accent. It was obviously more important that they just had a black guy. Ridiculous.

Bingo! John hits the nail on the head. The general public goes to movies for a break and for pure entertainment. The crap they put out now has no entertainment value whatsoever. Not only that, the cost of going to a theater is completely outrageous. You mean I spent all that $$$$ to sit and watch a boring plot that is putting me to sleep or lecturing me on how I should live my life or what I should believe in? Boring and arrogant is what it is. And the Oscar’s, what a waste of hours of your time. I have not sat through that torture in the last 20 years or more. The movies that win Oscars are by far the least entertaining I have ever witnessed. By all rights Maverick should have cleaned house but got nothing. So anyway, it is not likely you will ever bump into me in a movie theater in the remainder of my time on earth. What a waste.

Hollywood hasn’t had an original idea in decades. Everything is a remake, reboot, prequel, or sequel. Anything else is a comic book movie made for adult male nerd-children.

It's a shame. I used to go to the movies with my dates sometimes twice a week for years and years. But the old Saturday Night Live crowd stopped making movies and 007 got woke.
That was 15+ years ago. Antenna TV and RedBox rentals today. Svengoolie is still a staple from childhood !
The thing is, I would go back to the movies if they started making them good again.

we pretty much watch acorn and britbox..
because of their OLD series.. like the OLD Midsomer Murders..
every one of their newer (last 5 years - since they've
been pandering to the Woke USA crowd) would have
you believe the average Brit/Scottish/irish/NewZea lander
is homosexual, lesbian, black and communist..
and.. they are pretty much ALL the heroes..

There is one thing he says that I will have to disagree with: ten years ago I was already aware that Disney was actively attempting to sexualize children. Somewhere around ten years ago I read an article which documented how Disney used its "wholesome" child stars to capture the imagination of children and then, as those child stars began to mature (starting at about 16), they gradually made those child stars become more and more sexual, all the while making it seem as if that was just part of the child star growing up. However, it happened too consistently, following the same pattern, for it to be coincidence for child star and child star to go from being a wholesome role model parents approved of to debauched young adult that few parents wanted to see their children emulate.

Poor Hollywood, they ran prow first into a perfect storm. Woke, DEl, lousy stereotyped movies, trans and queer themes, mixed-race romance ad nauseam, incessant gunfire and car chases replacing intelligent dialogue, inflated ticket prices, ten-dollar popcorn and cokes. The worst fox paws of all was haughty, leftist, low IQ, dummies attempting to educate the American people on how to live. That was the final blow of the ax. They are all Kardashians now.

Hollywood can’t bring itself to have any heroes (unless comic book) or bad guys (unless white Christians) anymore. That seals their demise. Audiences want to see good guys vs bad guys. Hollywood is too PC to do it. Until they get decent plots back, forget it.

The only Best Picture winner I've seen in the past ten years or so is "Everything, Everywhere all at Once". Saw it when visiting our son and his family before it won. At the time, we'd never heard of it but our son said it was great. After watching it I was asked what I thought and I said it was about 2 hours too long. Horrible, nihilistic patter interspersed with senseless violence and crudity. Nolte's take that it was a 140 minute Tiktok video was great! Wound up wishing I'd gone into some other niche in the multiverse and avoided it!

I love movies, but been years since I have set foot in a theater. My home movie collection serves me just fine. Hollyweird decided to isolate their customers, never a good business practice. If I were an up and coming actor, I would be totally p*ssed at the established stars who helped to destroy any chance I had for a career.

It isn't just Hollywood. I am canceling my "Real Simple" magazine subscription on Monday because in their new all green issue they are TELLING me I have to give up my gas stove to "save the planet", this undoubtedly from some editors who dine out in Manhattan restaurants weekly where the chefs don't use anything BUT gas stoves---and for good reason. I WAS a long time subscriber (also Vanity Fair which used to be a hoot) because of all the practical advice re: cleaning copper with lemon juice and salt, etc. but GIVE ME A BREAK! Want to add that any film in theaters or anything on tv that even hints of P.C. is off my go to list...and that includes things like Law & Order SVU etc. They haven't even jumped the shark. They ARE the Shark, or maybe the stealthy serpent in the garden of American Eden. Our country is being eroded in stealthy constant ways.

Might go see Otto at some point, but that's about all I have an interest in. I agree with #22 on the Magazines. I have canceled a Bunch! Still enjoy Ree Drummond's magazine and Southern Living. "Give the customer what they want."
Big money runs Hollywood and 10 years ago big money defined Hollywood’s new customer as the "modern audience." That "modern audience" is defined as young (Gen Z and Millennial), gay friendly, addicted to social media, and (unstated) borderline bipolar, on the spectrum, and craving affirmation, not aspiration.
That audience exists but it is actually very niche. Profitable in moderation. But big money dictated the change and Harvey Weinstein (Google absolutely did not want to autocomplete that) was the accellerant. Everything being released now was planned and budgeted last decade. The money train takes years to stop. There’s another 2/3 years of this in the pipeline before they can fully correct their "misjudgement."

I will record new shows on TV, then watch them to see what they’re like. Most are pathetic. The new Perry Mason came out on HBO last year, and it was interesting. The second season started, and the first turnoff, among others, was Della Street sharing long kisses with her lesbian girlfriend. I deleted it and won’t watch another episode. I guess Hollywood doesn’t care if they die because they’re almost dead right now.

My first movie theater movie in years was Maverick. Visuals were fantastic and I found the entire movie fun to watch. (Don't forget, it's a movie, not a documentary.) Best thing about it? No homos. No lesbos. No 5000 F-bombs. No pilots jumping into bed with each other every 10 minutes. No bare boobs. Pro American and that's the thing the loony leftists hated about it. And of course, it didn't win a thing.

Re poster # 21 and Della Street's passionate Lesbian kiss, the problem is that those at HBO and Hollywood pat themselves on the back re: the "intolerance" of some (a lot) viewers. It is not intolerance to not be happy with an agenda that is pushed down our throats in some subtle and more often not so subtle ways. If a Lesbian kiss is pivotal to a story line (or even a mild sign of affection via a character we love), or even vaguely necessary that is fine, and most of us feel the same way about hetrosexual sex on screen. But this virtue signaling by Hollywood, Disney , People Mag and tv is ridiculous. Unfortunately, as I said, the producers, Nets and directors go smugly away, sure that THEY are the tolerant ones in this world, no matter how they have to drag it in. They don't learn via box office and/or ratings or they wouldn't continue to do so. Ditto all the P.C. crap we are constantly bombarded with, be it "settled science" or pronouns or......... Horrible to watch our country self destruct so the "woke" can once again pat themselves on their backs!

At this household, we don't need to be lectured to by the wokesters and told what to think while paying a lot of money to be "lefty-entertained" at a movie theater. But by using our own tv, we have seen, "13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi" in 2016, "Obama Years - the Power of Words" in 2017, "Trump Card" in 2020, "The Social Dilemma" in 2020, and "2000 Mules" in 2021. I don't even remember when the last time is we actually went to a movie theater to see a film.
But let's be honest - the left controls government, America's education system K through 16, news and social media, and entertainment. Yes, go woke, go broke, but profitability is not the prime consideration - indoctrination and a new Amerika is. Because of this, America will continue to rot from within. Sadly, our young people are drinking the cool aid with lightning speed and total ignorance. Look how fast Tik Tok has hijacked their minds.
At the end of the day will hollywood save itself once again? I agree with Nolte. Not this time.

Sorry: poster #31, And I also VCR new shows and then decide if they are keepers: most aren't. I hate to fall prey to" some of my best friends are Lesbians" (actually a few are) but this does a disservice to them as well as to us..........nobody wants their personal lives flaunted for some misplaced political reason and thus, pushed like mad, a turn off for those of us who do believe in personal freedom. Someone said recently that the Democratic Party was the one that was FOR freedom and privacy .in the bedroom. Now they are the ones who want it all out there all the time.
