What to expect from Iran-Saudi Arabia
relationship refresh

Original Article

For many observers of the region, the announcement came as a surprise. After years of rivalry and tensions, Saudi Arabia and Iran apparently want to start a new phase in their relationship. The decision is one that could have both regional and international impacts because in many areas and on many fronts, the two nations are opponents and have squared off against one another, both indirectly and directly. The two countries have supported opposing parties to various conflicts: for example, in Syria during the civil war there, and to this day in the war in Yemen.

For the record, I’m not posting this because I agree. I’m posting it because I think it’s important for conservatives to see the kind of rosy wishful thinking that’s increasingly common…and dangerous.

Well, let's look at this from Saudi Arabia's point of view. If I'm them, I'm not looking at the USA being a reliable ally. Maybe it's not a bad idea to hedge my bets. Maybe being nice to Iran (and in turn, China and Russia) isn't a bad idea. It's like the old joke that the comedian, WC Fields said, when it was found he had a bank account in Hitler's Germany -- "Just in case the little bugger won."

What I expect is the relationship will get back to hostility very soon, as they never liked each other, and the dislike will rise to the surface soon. Then, Iran is a few days from a nuclear weapon. That will leave Saudi Arabia in subordination to Iran. Let's see if they like it.

I expect exactly nothing. Persia (iran) has been the enemy of every other state in the region for 4,000 years.....and they still are.

If the Left think we can just downshift and move over to a slower lane on the superhighway of powers, they never noticed that declining empires always get pulled down by their adversaries and dismembered in the most gory and inglorious manners. They don't get much say in how their less-powerful selves get treated after they fall.

Polish President Andrzej Duda said the nation is set to hand over PolSoviet-made MiG-29 fighter jets to Ukraine in coming days. "In the coming days we will first transfer, if I remember correctly, four fully operational planes to Ukraine," Duda told a news conference in Warsaw. Duda said that Poland's air force would replace the planes it gives to Kyiv with South Korean-made FA-50 jets and American-made F-35s. The transfer would make Poland the first NATO member to have delivered the fighter jets, as Kyiv appeals for warplanes to fight Russian forces.

A young Dutch political party seeking to push back on the government's climate agenda achieved a stunning victory Wednesday as it won the most seats for a single party in the Dutch Senate. "This isn't normal, but actually it is! It's all normal citizens who voted," party leader Caroline van der Plas said. "But today people have shown they can't stay at home any longer. We won't be ignored anymore." The Farmer-Citizen Movement Party, known as BoerBurgerBeweging (BBB) in Dutch, built its victory on the back of protests against the government’s environmental policies, which aim to slash nitrogen emissions by dramatically cutting back on livestock numbers and buying out

A former Black Lives Matter activist ripped his onetime ideology Wednesday after San Francisco's board expressed support for reparations. Xaviaer DuRousseau, now a PragerU personality who said he has ties to the Bay Area, told "The Ingraham Angle" the plan is a case of social justice "virtue-signaling" to "indoctrinate" minorities into feeling oppressed. "I think it's important that, first of all, we call this exactly what it is: This is 111 ways to gaslight Black Americans into thinking that we need to be dependent on a system of handouts in order to be successful," DuRousseau said, adding he once believed the left-wing claims. The City Council of Washington, D.C., recently approved legislation to reduce penalties for violent crimes, despite a recent surge of murders, carjackings, and robberies in the city. It was in keeping with similar measures approved in recent years in cities around the country to defund the police, reduce cash bail, and eliminate penalties for minor crimes like shoplifting and drug possession. Congress rightly overruled the measure under the city's home rule charter, but it was a sign of what's to come from D.C. city government.

Montgomery was in the news this week after Florida Department of Education communications director Alex Lanfranconi revealed how the Tampa Bay reporter responded to an emailed press release regarding a roundtable discussion on "divisive concepts such as Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives, Critical Race Theory (CRT) and the impact that these concepts

Stevens, who last taught in the Issaquah School District, is not alone in putting in her resignation. According to an analysis of Washington state data by the Calder Center, more teachers left the classroom in the past school year than at any point in the past three decades. Washington state teacher attrition rates and teacher turnover overall, according to the analysis, are now at historic highs. The teacher attrition rate in 2022 was 8.91%

The U.K. and Germany scrambled fighter jets to intercept two Russian aircraft flying near Estonia late Tuesday. The Russian aircraft, a Russian Il-78 Midas refueling plane and an Antonov 148 military transport, approached NATO airspace without contacting Estonian authorities. The incident was the first time the U.K. and Germany have conducted a joint air intercept as part of the NATO treaty. "NATO continues to form the bedrock of our collective security," U.K. Armed Forces minister James Heappey said in a statement. "This joint UK and German deployment in the Baltics clearly demonstrates our collective resolve to challenge any potential threat

The jet in question was one of two Su-27's flying in tandem when the collision occurred in international airspace over international waters. The propeller to the drone was damaged and the drone landed in the Black Sea, west of Crimea, the U.S. defense official told Fox News. The Russian Su-27 was headed toward Crimea and landed there after this incident, the official added. It is unknown if there was any damage to the Su-27. The latest House Subcommittee on the Weaponization of the Federal Government hearing was the final straw. I can no longer be a Democrat after watching my party of three decades ignore the serious implications of vast governmental censorship and desperately, sometimes comically, try to shoot the messengers. Last week’s hearing was meant to take testimony on the implications of government censorship reported in the Twitter Files — a series of articles, released on social-media platform Twitter, outlining the “censorship-industrial complex.” But what it actually did was draw an astonishingly clear distinction between today’s Democrats and Republicans when it comes to our most fundamental and important right: freedom of speech. CORRECTION*

It’s a deep dive into his belief that the US is in need of renewal — what needs to happen to right the ship, especially at the intersection of technology, economics and national security.

San Francisco residents lined up at a city board meeting last night to share their full-throated support of a wide-eyed reparations plan that would award every black resident $5million, wipe their personal debt, guarantee $97,000 incomes for 250 years and $1 homes. But no one at the emotional meeting - where residents burst into song and begged to be made 'whole' - asked how the struggling, debt-addled city might pay for it. Reparations are being considered in various Democratic cities around America as a means of providing compensation to the descendants of enslaved African-Americans.

After months of near-silence and innuendo, Florida Gov. and GOP presidential hopeful Ron DeSantis decided to speak about Ukraine, removing all doubt about his position. While his statement on Tucker Carlson’s Fox News show makes a handful of valid points, it is ridden with a fundamental misunderstanding of the war and US geopolitical interests. First, the good. DeSantis is correct to criticize the Biden administration’s lack of clear objectives in its support for “as long as it takes,” which is a recipe for a long and intractable conflict — which Americans would be right to reject.

Some electric vehicle (EV) manufacturers are scrapping the AM radio from their cars, claiming safety concerns. Although conservative talk radio dominates AM radio ratings, it is also considered a critical safety tool, as it is one of the primary ways that federal, state, and local officials communicate with the public during natural disasters and other emergencies. Automakers such as Ford and Tesla have ditched the AM radio from their newer EV models, arguing that the motors on EVs interfere with AM frequencies, creating buzzing and signal fading, according to a report by the Wall Street Journal.

Greta “Damien” Thunberg was forced to delete a tweet predicting the world could no longer be saved in 2023. So why did she delete this tweet? Because we’re already a quarter of the way through 2023, and if the world can no longer be saved, if it’s too late to reverse climate change (which is a hoax), Greta and her fascist agenda are no longer relevant. After all, if it’s too late to save the world, we might as well party on, right? On March 7, a draft research report was released, co-authored by Sean Kirkpatrick, director of the Pentagon’s All-Domain Anomaly Resolution Office (AARO), and Abraham Loeb, chairman of Harvard University’s astronomy department. The report discusses the physical limitations of unidentified aerial phenomena and suggests that aliens may be visiting our solar system and deploying smaller probes similar to NASA’s planetary exploration missions. This was despite the fact that, as they admitted, a Hoover Institution estimate found it could cost San Franciscans of other races (and presumably those in poverty) $600,000 in new taxes. (snip) Last night, he began his top-rated hour-long program with the following startling statement: “You’re going to get a hot war with Russia – and China – whether you want one or not.” He followed with analysis of the Black Sea drone incident and the calls for retaliation and escalation from Lindsey Graham and “his friends in the war party” that would likely lead to outright war. And wartime, he noted at the end of the segment, leads to extraordinary suppression of political dissent.
