DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES -- Tensions flared Monday morning as crews dismantled several homeless encampments on Skid Row in downtown Los Angeles while police officers stood guard. Video from AIR7 HD showed a dump truck's crane grabbing one encampment's canopy tent, which had apparently been constructed with a raised floor and walls. All of the debris was then hoisted into the truck and hauled away. That sparked an angry reaction from some bystanders, who stood behind yellow police tape at the intersection of Fifth and San Pedro streets. "So I built my house right here on wheels," said homeless activist Stephanie Arnold

As President Biden prepares to launch another White House bid, the nascent movement to find a replacement to run in his place has flamed out, with Democrats in both wings of the party pleased with the expected direction of his campaign and no alternative in sight.
Progressives have wondered how Biden will position himself in 2024, having seen him both tack to the middle and veer to the left at different points in office. But they got a major sign of reassurance after this week’s address: more liberal firepower is in the works. “I have to say, the speech was

Dozens of students walked out of their New Hampshire school after the district banned urinals in a compromise to a proposal that would have blocked children from using facilities based on their gender identity. The school board decided a few days before the Friday walkout to prohibit students at Milford Middle School and Milford High School from using urinals or shared spaces in locker rooms. The ban in a town of about 15,000 people roughly 35 miles (56 kilometers) from Concord, New Hampshire's capital, was the culmination of a long debate about district rules about bathroom use and gender identity.

Exclusive: Unearthed documents from early in the JonBenet Ramsey murder investigation show DNA evidence recovered under her fingernails and clothes was not a match for members of the family and others close to the case just weeks after the crime. But police for years continued to float the possibility that her parents were under "an umbrella of suspicion" in the gruesome slaying, a new book on late Colorado investigator Lou Smit, who worked the case, argues in its opening pages. WASHINGTON - U.S. Representative Angie Craig was assaulted on Thursday in the elevator of her apartment building in Washington, her office said in a statement. Her chief of staff, Nick Coe, said that Democratic congresswoman from Minnesota suffered bruising, but was "otherwise physically OK." Coe added that there was no evidence to suggest the attack was politically motivated. The attack took place early in the morning and the lawmaker "defended herself from the attacker," Coe said. The attacker fled the scene of the assault, her office added. "Rep. Craig is grateful to the DC Metropolitan Police Department for their quick response

New York City is converting the world’s tallest Holiday Inn hotel into the Big Apple’s sixth mega-shelter for its surging migrant population, Mayor Eric Adams announced Tuesday. The deal will supply 492 rooms for adult families and single women, Adams said in a statement. “With more than 44,000 asylum seekers arriving in the last 10 months alone, we have helped provide shelter and support to nearly as many asylum seekers as the number of New Yorkers we already had in our shelter system when we first came into office,” he said. NEW YORK — The Internal Revenue Service is recommending that taxpayers hold off on filing their tax returns for 2022 if they received a special tax refund or payment from their state last year. The Aldi store in north Minneapolis is closing next week, leaving the wider Northside community with just one large grocery store. The store, located at 3120 Penn Ave. N., will have its final day on Feb. 12. An Aldi spokesperson blamed the closure on "the inability to renovate the store to accommodate our larger product range and our current lease term expiring." It will leave north Minneapolis with just one large grocery chain, Cub Foods at 701 W. Broadway Ave., and independent options such as So Low Grocery Outlet at 3111 Emerson Ave. N., and North Market at 4414 Humboldt

By now, almost everyone knows it: Vice President Kamala Harris is a horrible politician, would be an embarrassing presidential nominee, and would not be a good president. The New York Times has a long piece on how this realization is spreading through Democratic circles. At times, the reporters try to soften the blow, but the judgment of Democratic insiders is unavoidable. (Tweet) Quin Hillyer lays out concisely why Harris is so unpopular. She cackles menacingly or awkwardly at totally inappropriate times. And when she speaks, she gives off the impression of a child who forgot to prepare for his school
Comments:
Who are they kidding? Behind the scenes they are all clamoring for power. But the Democrat bench has nothing but a kooky governor in CA and the same retreads from the 2020 primary.
