As more motorists own electric vehicles (EVs) and experience problems operating them, evidence shows that the movement to abandon gas-powered vehicles is ideologically motivated and unsupported by rational economic calculation.
In January 2023, four Wyoming state senators and two representatives introduced Senate Joint Resolution No. SJ004 to ban the sale of EVs in Wyoming by 2035. The proposed legislation stressed that “Wyoming’s vast stretches of highway, coupled with a lack of electric vehicle charging infrastructure, make the widespread use of electric vehicles impracticable for the state.”

Government should not be involved in banning or promoting EV or ICE. At all, anywhere.
If I decide to spend my money on an EV that's none of anyone's business.
If I decide to spend my money in ICE that's none of anyone's business.
I happen to own both and they each serve their respective role and purpose very well.
No one else's business how I spend my money or to tell me what my needs are.
Especially not the government.

We do not have the raw materials needed for battery production for EVs to become the majority mode of transportation. Talk about environmental damage the mining of these materials are extremely detrimental to the environment. In addition most of it is done by child labour. Once you get past the production of batteries one then has the issue of disposing of them Another Big problem. Perhaps EVs have a place as a niche alternative on a small scale but that is all. Progressives are the spawn of Evil.

Electric vehicles like windmills were obsolete technology a hundred years ago. They still are.

Let's assume the vision is to have all electric transportation and for that electricity to be generated from wind and solar.
To have any plan to get to that vision would require an analysis of every resource required, not just the cars. From the cobalt and lithium for all the batteries to all the copper for windmills transmission lines, roads to access the windmills required and solar fields , every single input needs to be accounted for. Private enterprise does this kind of analysis all the time because if they fail they face consequences.
Only after addressing every step on the path to electric Valhalla can we even begin to assess the net environmental, standard of living, and geopolitical consequences.
You'll never see such a comprehensive analysis yet government is demanding that you trust them to lead us down that path. Many of your neighbors believe themselves your betters for supporting that journey despite being completely clueless themselves and unwilling or incapable of even grasping the questions that would need to be answered to support their position on facts rather than emotions.
I think I'll name my new AC DC cover band Electric Valhalla. I'll need to learn to play an instrument first.

As soon as Biden starts riding around in an electric vehicle, then I will consider getting one.....well, actually, I won't

"...will require massive amounts of new power generation to sustain the misadventure of electric vehicles." Those are the key words. The only way this can be sustained is to create a special network and prohibit charging an electric vehicle on the public grid or impose a stiff surcharge for doing so. Like EZ Pass tolls. If you have to be mailed the ticket to your home there is a $10 charge.

I drive from the Boston area to New Jersey to see my family. I don’t want to have to charge my vehicle at the Tappan Zee Bridge just so I can go another 40 miles to make it to my 91 year old mom’s.

That 75K EV in your driveway ? Park it someplace where you can still get your gas pickup truck out.
You can't sell it. Nobody wants to buy a car that will need a $25,000 battery in 4 years.

There exists extensive rationale for or against electric vehicles, generally based on one's point of view.
For Americans, all of this is secondary to the point poster #1 made. The government has no business deciding on what kind of light bulb, toilet, firearm, stove or vehicle they choose for us. We lose more and more of out freedom every time we allow the government to impose its will on our freedom to choose what to spend our money on.

Hybrids make a 100% more sense than fully electric vehicles. Toyota has said so, but is now backing off due to political pressure. EV's require immense mining, huge issues with battery disposal and fires, batteries that will have to be made in China, and will not work in storms or extreme conditions.

The market should decide if you want an EV or Gas vehicle. Who cares if an EV user runs a battery down in WY.. Maybe they will run down next to the "train station".

When I did my master's thesis research as a team member where we designed, built and tested a pair of hybrid vehicles in the early 70s, one of the things I looked closely at was whether we had the special metals resources to build the millions of hybrid vehicles that might replace gasoline and diesel vehicles.
When the batteries of the time used nickel and cadmium as primary ingredients, and the most common batteries use lead. Lead was plentiful (no all lead mining has been shut down in the USA by the federal government) and nickel was perhaps adequate, but cadmium supplies were uncertain. Even as a graduate student, I understood that access to critical resources was a key factor in whether a vehicle technology could be viable and economical. Today, the "top leadership" is unconcerned with this most important factor.
Now, the federal government continues to shut down US mining and refining of essentially all metals, forcing us to buy from overseas suppliers. This greatly weakens the country - to the benefit of the corrupt leadership who is being paid by foreign governments - primarily China to cripple our industry.

As more and more people buy into the green fantasy and are subsequently disappointed by the reality, more states will turn against the idea of EVs. Hopefully our auto manufacturers see the light before they further invest in the dream and get too deep to recover. Ford and GM are almost certain to die and the government no longer has the funds to bail them out, as will the preferred German brands. The Asians, taking a slow and careful approach will recover just fine.

I will have to admit that I own an EV and I like it. It's quite useful in our small lake community. It's called a golf cart.
