How the world works (for dummies)

Poverty in America is so bad that some people can barely afford their cell phones. In much of the rest of the world, poor people starve to death, or die of what in America are ordinary, survivable diseases or injuries. In America, injustice is so bad that many lawyers appointed by the court cannot get their clients acquitted of the crimes they committed, and must settle for a plea bargain. Elsewhere, to be accused is to be found guilty and imprisoned in hell-hole cellars, innocence being irrelevant to the courts of so-called justice.

The author refers to fixing stupid but I think the problem coming from the Left is more a case of willful ignorance. I don't know how you combat that.

I wish it was only ignorance, but I suspect it is malicious desire to wreck our country. Without America to contend with, the world can more easily be run by a centralized government.

He's right. When you load up two heavy grocery carts using your EBT card and you can't get one of the store clerks to push them out to your car for you, things are getting bad.

Both sets of my grandparents were born in the 19th century and came of age in the 20th century. They were farmers and tradesmen. They worked with large pieces of machinery and vehicles. Before that, they worked with large horses. The only vaccinations available to them were to prevent smallpox. They didn't go to doctors; often, there weren't any. A lot of the time, they killed what they ate. Their children were mostly born at home. Sometimes, children didn't survive to adulthood. One of my grandfathers lost two brothers before he was 18. Then, he survived the Spanish Flu. Another grandfather was a veteran of trench warfare in WWI. There was no welfare, no Social Security, no Medicare, no unemployment compensation. Whenever I hear people talk about how hard life is, in the 21st century, it amuses me to think what my grandparents would have told them.

How do you fix stupid? Beginning to think this is what 'dumbing down' looks like. This started in the schools, and spread to the home. It took decades to get to where we are at today. It will take decades to fix. Fixing the schools goes a long way to fixing stupid.

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) has officially selected Reps. Adam Schiff (D-CA) and Eric Swalwell (D-CA) to the House Intelligence Committee. This is despite Speaker Kevin McCarthy's (R-CA) promises he would not let that happen, setting up quite the likely showdown between the two party leaders. Earlier this afternoon, Rep. Schiff responded over Twitter, with just the kind of response you'd expect. The tweet includes a letter from Jeffries to McCarthy making his case to name Schiff and Swalwell to the committee.

Mexico Is Not Really an American Friend 25 replies

Left-wing Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador recently praised a visiting Joe Biden: “Just imagine: There are 40 million Mexicans in the United States—40 million who were born here in Mexico, [or] who are the children of people who were born in Mexico!” Why wouldn’t Obrador be delighted? Since Biden took office in January 2021, America has allowed some 5-6 million illegal entries across its southern border. Obrador further congratulated the malleable Biden whom he apparently sees as a kindred but complacent left-wing spirit: “You are the first president of the United States in a very long time that has not built even one meter

In my 2015 book, Scarlet Letters, I spoke of the emergence of a Neo-Puritan movement in America. But not until Biden “climate envoy” John Kerry began pontificating at Davos did any prominent member of the Neo-Puritan elect speak specifically to the cult’s existence. "When you start to think about it, it's pretty extraordinary that we -- select group of human beings because of whatever touched us at some point in our lives -- are able to sit in a room and come together and actually talk about saving the planet," said Kerry.

To claim that the mainstream media has a Democrat bias is an erroneous assumption. That's because such a claim assumes that the party and the media are separate entities and the Democrats are influencing the news media. That is simply false. For ages, the mainstream news media has been the public relations wing for the Democrats. They crawl when asked to bend and prostrate when asked to crawl. Most news outfits follow the same narrative and even use identical phraseology to describe any given occurrence. A perfect example of this setup is Chuck Todd.

The internet posters are making hay of the news that Joe Biden had classified documents, obtained when he was vice president and some labeled top secret, stored insecurely in his office at the Penn Center at the University of Pennsylvania (funded by the Chinese government), in his home in Delaware, and in his garage at the home where Hunter had resided for some time. I don’t know which post is my favorite but this one by David Burge (Iowahawk) certainly makes my list: “Just got a smokin' deal on a hot rod project from Craigslist, plus it had some free nuclear codes in the glove box.”

Who knew that we'd be talking about President Biden's Corvette and his troves of secret documents five months after the FBI visited President Trump's home? Life does have a way of throwing you a curve ball from time to time. Did someone say what goes around comes around? (Snip) The Biden story is now in the hands of a special counsel. Why? Because the Biden administration overreacted last summer and sent the FBI to pick up documents. The “hysterically obsessed with Trump Democrats” now have a document crisis that has nothing to do with the Orange Man.

The reader cannot be faulted for asking, “Who is Thomas Lane?” For the record, Lane, who is white, is the most anonymous of the four lambs sacrificed to appease the bloodlust of the mobs incited by a video snippet of George Floyd’s last minutes on earth. On a day like today, it would seem a fitting time to heed the words of another man who was unfairly imprisoned. In his justly famed letter from the Birmingham jail, it was Martin Luther King, Jr. who reminded us, “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.”

Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor is recognized for three things: (1) She was the first Hispanic female justice on the Court; (2) She’s a leftist’s leftist; and (3) she is not wise but is, in my humble opinion, almost staggeringly ignorant and biased. All those factors benefit Democrats, but now they’re getting worried, not because of her manifest legal and intellectual deficits but because there’s a possibility that they will not hold the White House and Senate after the 2024 election.

Following yet another failure of government control of transportation -- the FAA system debacle -- Pete Buttigieg has been soundly thrashed again for his incompetence. The FAA failure is only one of many fiascos over the past year laid at the feet of the erstwhile secretary of Transportation. Recall when he and his “husband” were on paternity leave for nearly two months while the maritime shipping supply chain crisis was going on last fall. Next, he was AWOL during the railroad strike negotiations and really played no role in brokering a deal. As a matter of fact, he was on vacation in Portugal at the time.

The Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) advisory panel on vaccines is set to consider an annual schedule for the coronavirus vaccine, akin to how flu vaccines are administered, when it meets this week. The FDA’s Vaccines and Related Biological Products Advisory Committee (VRBPAC) will meet Thursday to discuss how to simplify and streamline the COVID-19 vaccination process, including the composition of coronavirus vaccines and the recommended scheduling for these shots. The rapid evolution of the SARS-CoV-2 virus, resulting in variants with an improved ability to escape immune protection, means that “periodically updating the composition of COVID-19 vaccines as needed,” as was done with the updated bivalent booster

The Thursday evening edition of the PBS NewsHour devoted 11 minutes to the apparent foolishness…of cooking with gas. Science correspondent Miles O’Brien condescendingly mocked anyone who would dare not throw out their gas stoves and purchase more expensive induction stoves, given the obvious health hazards of natural gas (a danger the liberal press learned about a few days go and won’t stop shrieking over). GEOFF BENNETT, host: There's been quite a bit of heated debate lately about gas stoves and potential government regulation. Joe Biden is panicking.  An astonishing fifth trove of classified documents was discovered in the president’s Delaware mansion Friday, not by his own lawyers this time, but during a more thorough 13-hour search by the Department of Justice while he holed up in his beach house in Rehoboth, which ought to be next on the DOJ search list.  Biden’s Attorney General Merrick Garland has had the audacity to appoint a special counsel to investigate Biden.  His long-term trusted factotum Ron Klain is bailing out.  And someone at the White House is throwing his trusted longtime executive assistant Kathy Chung under the bus.

Smoking gun? Did Hunter Biden receive classified information from Joe Biden on Ukraine and then email the information to his business partner Devon Archer? Joe Biden stored top-secret files with the “sensitive compartmented information” (SCIF) designation at Penn Biden Center in DC (found on Nov. 2). Lawyers discovered more classified documents at Joe Biden’s Delaware home – in the garage next to his Corvette (found on Dec. 20). Additional documents stored in Biden’s library were discovered on January 12 and again on January 20. Hunter Biden had access to the garage where Biden stored some of the classified documents.

Dozens of House Democrats have proposed legislation that would eliminate the debt ceiling, which would allow the government to borrow without any limit set by Congress. The federal government hit the $31.381 trillion debt ceiling last week, and House Republicans are pushing for commitments to cut back on the record growth in federal spending before agreeing to allow more borrowing. But Democrats accuse Republicans of setting up the possibility of prohibiting a debt ceiling hike, which would make the government unable to fund all of its current obligations. Democrats say a better idea is to eliminate all limits on federal borrowing and allow
