Greetings such as “aloha” and “shalom” are “culturally sensitive” and their use could “come off as mockery,” according to a recent USA Today piece demanding people “consider the cultural implications” before using such terms.
In an essay published in USA Today on Friday, titled “Is it time to stop saying ‘aloha’ and other culturally sensitive words out of context?” reporter David Oliver argues, “just because you can say something doesn’t mean it’s always appropriate.”
Claiming that “aloha” has a “deeper meaning” than just hello or goodbye, the author states, “If you’re not Hawaiian and you say it, it could come off as mockery.”

With each gallon of gas pumped in the United States since 1932, drivers have been paying taxes. The revenue is used for road repairs and public transportation such as train and bus systems.
Currently, the Fed takes 18.4 cents per gallon for gas or 24.4 cents per gallon for diesel. State gas taxes range from a national high of 61 cents for gas in Pennsylvania, to a low of 8.95 cents in Alaska.
But environmentally motivated improvements in fuel efficiency and the move to electric vehicles (EVs) translate to less gas sold, resulting less tax revenue collected.
State and federal governments are looking for a new way to fund transportation.

Texas Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee has introduced a bill aimed at fighting “white supremacy” by attaching criminal charges to certain forms of hate speech.
The Democratic congresswoman introduced the Leading Against White Supremacy Act of 2023, which aims “to prevent and prosecute white supremacy inspired hate crime and conspiracy to commit white supremacy inspired hate crime.”
The conspiracy addition means people who use hate speech online could face criminal charges under the legislation even if they don’t act on their threats.

Longtime journalist and Fox News co-host Geraldo Rivera received a wave of criticism on Twitter Tuesday after incorrectly identifying the AR-15 as an "automatic rifle."
In an exchange on the opinion roundtable show, "The Five," Rivera discussed President Joe Biden's pledge to ban assault rifles with his fellow co-hosts.
"I submit to you, ladies and gentlemen, there is no legitimate reason ... to have an AR-15," Rivera tells the table.
Fox News host Greg Gutfeld pushed back on Rivera's opinion, however, and asked the former correspondent, "What does 'AR' stand for?" "It is an automatic rifle," Rivera answered, to which Gutfeld said, "That's not what it is."

One thing that’s rare to see in Hollywood is honesty.
When we see it, it tends to touch us. We saw that in the acceptance speech of Ke Huy Quan when he won Best Supporting Actor in a Musical or Comedy at the Golden Globes. We saw it from Brendan Fraser at the Critics Choice Awards. They were both so grateful and happy that after a long time “in the wilderness,” they were given a chance to act again and prove themselves in the roles in which they shined.
But Richard Dreyfuss is showing us something else again with his quest. Maybe that’s because even though he worked in Hollywood,

Liberal social media users continued to voice their vitriol for Independent Arizona Sen. Kyrsten Sinema after she appeared at World Economic Forum in Davos with Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., on Tuesday.
During their joint appearance at the forum, both Manchin and Sinema reiterated their support for the filibuster, a position that frequently drew ire from Democratic members of the Senate.
"And we still don’t agree on getting rid of the filibuster?" Manchin said.

During the National Action Network’s Annual MLK Day Breakfast on Monday, President Joe Biden once again took a swipe at Second Amendment supporters, asserting that if they plan to take on the federal government they’ll need F-15s, not AR-15s.
He vowed to implement another assault weapons ban, which constitutionally is not feasible since Republicans now control the House of Representatives. If he does it by executive order, the Supreme Court is sure to weigh in on the issue.
“And I’ll say what I said then and I’ll say it over and over again: I am going to get assault weapons banned. I did it once, and

New York City Mayor Eric Adams (D) says there is simply “no more room” for border crossers and illegal aliens in the sanctuary city after tens of thousands have arrived since the spring of last year, most sent by Texas. Gov. Greg Abbott (R) on buses.
Adams, who traveled to El Paso, Texas, on Monday to get a first-hand account of the record-breaking number of illegal immigrants arriving each month under President Joe Biden’s watch, said New York City has “no more room” before suggesting that New Yorkers have an “obligation” to the world’s migrants to care for and foot the bill for their public services.

Former Republican Congressman Adam Kinzinger is selling signed hardcover copies of the January 6 Committee Report for $100 through his County First PAC’s website.
Kinzinger joined former Rep. Liz Cheney as the only two House Republicans to serve on the January 6 Committee. The January 6 Committee issued its final report last month after finishing a nearly 18-month investigation into the January 6 Capitol riots.
Further, Kinzinger was one of ten House Republicans to vote to impeach former President Donald Trump in the aftermath of the riots.
All proceeds of the $100 report will “benefit the US Capitol Police Memorial Fund,”

In this episode of The Existential Threat to Mankind…
Every time I run across a story about climate alarmist bilge from John Kerry, the first “United States special presidential envoy for climate,” I think back to Al “Polar Ice” Gore and how loony we thought he was. Listen, John Kerry makes Al Gore look like a piker without breaking a global-warming-induced sweat.
Welp, I’m happy to report that this is the most ridiculous take I’ve yet seen from Kerry, and I’ve seen a lot.
As Fox News reported, the U.S. “climate envoy” turned heads with an out-of-this-world [sarc] speech at the annual World Economic Forum meeting in Davos —
