GOP leader Kevin McCarthy failed in an 12th attempt for the speakership on Friday but flipped 14 Republican detractors, appearing to confirm that talks between the factions are progressing as was announced earlier in the day.
Fourteen Republican hold-outs, including Representatives Brecheen, Bishop, Cloud, Clyde, Donalds, Luna, Miller, Norman, Perry, Roy, Self, Spartz, Gosar, and Ogles voted for McCarthy on the 12th vote for the position. McCarthy won a total of 214 votes during this ballot, according to C-SPAN’s unofficial tally.
In his statement on changing his vote to McCarthy, obtained by Politico, Self said: “My vote today was to show support for significant Rule changes to transform

Getting a trusted set of MAGA reps on the rules committee is the equivalent of getting MAGA judges on the SCOTUS bench. They are the gatekeepers that would be needed to enforce the rules concessions that are being negotiated with McCarthy. If they can control the rules committee, McCarthy would not be able to double cross them (without a rules violation). If they could elect a trustworthy Speaker they wouldn't require this committee control, but they don't trust McCarthy.

You guys put a RINO in charge, you're making a big mistake. This reminds me of a Greek tragedy where the protagonist and the audience know disaster is in the offing. The L-Dotter chorus speaks truth and warning, but is ignored.

The most corrupt, sans ethics, immoral, self-serving congress in the history of the United States all of whom, ALL, represent their own self-interests, not the constituencies to whom they are responsible, and whose interests these political prostitutes ignore employing on-going gaslighting.

In my lifetime, there have already been three attempted presidential assassinations, one of them successful.
Members need to bear in mind that if during this protracted fight, something were to happen to the president and vice president, as 4th in line of succession Chuck Schumer would be immediately sworn in as the new president. History would forever remember that it could have been Kevin McCarthy.

If he showed as much tenacity and imperviousness to bad press when something other than his own self interest was at stake, he wouldn’t be having this problem.

Only 4 more to go. Or is it 2? Whatever, I hope all of the holdouts except Gaetz flip.

Childish, juvenile. It isn't the House of Representatives; Republicans have turned it into a playpen food fight.

Actually it would be Patty Murray, Not Chuck Schumer.
(admittedly a distinction without much of a difference, although the IQ of Murray is closer to that of the current pResident than Schumer's would be)

Amazing how many people whine about the "Gutless Republicans who refuse to stand up for Conservative Values against the Deep State- Uniparty Establishment RINOs"...
Yet when a few brave souls actually do, they are attacked by those same whiners for being" stupid, selfish traitors".

You got to give the pubbies credit though. They don't all think and act like a herd of sheep in heat like the dims do. Nanie says to her caucus, jump, and the caucus says, "how high".
This will be over by early next week. And defunding the IRS will be first on the agenda.
It may be premature to say, but Trump is right...yet again.

Mark my words: we WILL regret having McCarthy as speaker. We’re still suffering too much Go-along-too-get-along-ism, even among our supposed “hard core” ranks around here.

The Deep State is now shown to be so tightly in control that who becomes President is becoming relatively less important. It's not like Truman succeeding Roosevelt.

The flippers are sucking in to big promises being made to them and they are getting bought off. Money is no object and they are getting promised their fair share and more. The swamp is getting swampier. Totally disgusting to see corruption in broad daylight at its ugliest.

This is a necessary event - the Republican leadership needs to know we can no longer accept business as usual - be Democrat Lite. I suspect McCarthy will get elected but there will be effective constraints. Too bad they did not do this to Traitor Paul Ryan

Wake me up when the JAN 6 HEARINGS start again. We have American citizens in solitary confinement for years because they saw an open door to the Capitol and wandered in (to the velvet rope line) out of simple curiosity.
The first thing I want to hear the SPEAKER SPEAK. is that they all go home and sue the feds for a big fat hurt.

Ugh, the moment he's elected all his promises will be forgotten and you'll get kicked off any important committees, you dummies.
He's a RINO.
