The GOP’s Moronic House Speakership Fight

After four years of legislative malfeasance by Nancy Pelosi and her Democratic myrmidons, the Republicans will soon have a 222–213 majority in the House of Representatives. It should be obvious to the meanest intelligence that, to accomplish anything useful with such a narrow majority, the House Republican Conference has to close ranks and prepare for a war with a radicalized Democratic minority that will continue its ongoing effort to undermine the will of the voters.

I’ve been very focal in my criticism of McCarthy. But Catron makes good points, particularly when McCarthy is contrasted w Elaine’s husband.

The solution is clear to see; make the next speaker a non-RINO, not a 'consensus or bridge builder.' Kevin McCarthy strikes me as someone squishy soft on liberal/progressive issues. We don't need a get along/go along wuss like Ryan, Boehner, or that diddler of little boys, Hastert.

Before you seek to remove a speck from your neighbor's eye, first remove the log from your own. That is where the GOP is. We have a multitude of "specks" -, fake Republicans - inhabiting the party. If we are to do battle, we must first neutralize thos specks.

“Vote for the most Conservative Candidate who can win.” ~ William F. Buckley It was correct then, and it’s correct now. The ones I’d support who might win won’t run. The ones I’d support who might run won’t win. Whether it’s 20 or 10 or 5, these principled holdouts against McCarthy would end up throwing it to whoever the Democrat minority is told to coalesce behind. Well, everyone here knows even McCarthy is better than that. If we’ve learned anything from having one narrow election after another stolen from us these past 62-ish years, it ought to be that we should stick together and win the sure things. But instead we eat our own. McCarthy will be head-and-shoulders better than any realistic alternative. He should bargain with the holdouts, and we’ll all be better for it, and then he should win 223 to whatever. But none of that should be in the news. And may God bless the USA.

Saying McCarthy is better than Mitch is like saying Pneumonia is better than cancer...I for one would rather be illness free! The lesser of two evils is never any good. The simple fact is McCarthy is not a reliable conservative, nor is he consistent. We do not need a leader who holds a wet finger pin the air to see which way the wind is blowing. IMHO, he's much too much like Bill Kristol and not enough like Newt!

The Republicans that will vote against McCarthy have gotten nothing but the back of the hand from McCarthy, so are not going to vote for him. Those Republicans have received McCarthy promises before, and have been betrayed every time, which is why they are not going to vote for McCarthy. Yeah, it is personal.

Let me see: Nancy Pelosi caved to the extreme left wingers known as The Squad at the expense of her more moderate members and the country. She is considered a savvy politician but we cannot ever have a Republican cave to the "extreme" right wing of his party which also represents many conservative Americans. At the end of the day, it really doesn't matter if McCarthy or whomever is the speaker because this country is on a fast downward spiral. I hear not one Republican in Congress mention DEPORTATION. The border will never be secured again. The new GOP controlled Congress can have all their oversight hearings they want on the Bidens, the FBI, DHS, etc. and any referrals to DOJ will just be ignored. Jim Jordan like Trey Gowdy before him will sputter away and nothing will happen to any of these crooks.

Perfectly portrays GOP history. When the demoncrats win, the GOP loses. When the GOP wins, the GOP loses. Only a third party that is run the proper way and allows good people to guide it will fix our problem. It will be a painful transition but the next decade will be painful regardless so we might as well get on with. In the absence of good conservative leadership I will withhold my vote and my donation dollars. Pence, Romney, Christie, Mitch, don't even think about it.

A very small number GOP representatives don’t like McCarthy. I get it. But, continuing to be against someone without a viable alternative is the height of stupidity. If they continue to be obstinate, they might succeed in getting Adam Schiff as the next Speaker. In the meantime, the Democrats are laughing their arses off.

It’s crunch time for House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.). Members of Congress departed Washington on Friday with the group of House Republicans voicing opposition to McCarthy for Speaker showing no signs of wavering, setting up a dramatic Jan. 3 Speaker’s vote — or series of votes — on the first day of the 118th Congress.McCarthy brushed off a question on Friday asking how he plans to lock up support over the holidays, saying he plans to “go home; have a really nice Christmas.” At least five House Republicans have explicitly said or strongly indicated they will not vote for McCarthy to be Speaker, and several others have withheld support for

According to prosecutors, Gillum met with undercover FBI agents posing as developers while he was mayor of Tallahassee and during his campaign for governor. Late on Wednesday evening following Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky's address to a joint session of Congress, members of the United States Senate were back to squabbling over the 4,155-page, $1.7 trillion omnibus bill being forced by Democrats with assistance from some Republicans such as Senate GOP Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky — and the massive bill might be in deep trouble. In a stroke of genius, Republican Senator Mike Lee of Utah decided to try and attach an amendment to the monstrous omnibus that would extend Title 42 expulsion authority that was set to expire this week.

Of the several unwelcome revelations in the past six years, the most politically significant is that liberalism as a political philosophy is dead. Oh, there may still be some individuals who identify with it, but for the most part they are old, retired, or cowed into silence by the howling mobs of progressives, the “woke,” and the identitarian left. And how do we know this? We know it by the collapse of colleges and universities as places of open debate and inquiry. And we know it by the abandonment of any kind of honest and principled journalism by the vast majority of the legacy and social media.  CORRECTION*

Political disagreements were not on the menu at Il Postino on the Upper East Side, where Andrew Cuomo and Kellyanne Conway dined together Monday night. The disgraced former governor sat with the ex-political adviser for one of his biggest rivals — former President Donald Trump. Cuomo, a Democrat, and Conway, a Republican, were photographed leaving the Italian restaurant on 61st Street after 10 p.m. The former gov did not comment on the relevance of the dinner as he got into his car. He waved to Conway as they parted ways. The unlikely pair had been at the center of political power just two years ago.

For the past two years, the corporate media have earnestly assured us that, for the first time in history, we were blessed with an immaculate election in 2020. It was, we are told, unsullied by unsavory practices once thought endemic to politics. Unaccountably, however, many voters remain uncomfortable with certain curious aspects of that election. The most recent indication of this can be found in a new Harvard CAPS/Harris poll that plumbed public opinion on the so-called Twitter Files.

Imagine if Donald Trump had released this as his “major announcement” rather than his NFT trading cards. Or at least before his attempt to fundraise off of MAGA on social media. This might not qualify as a “major announcement,” but at least it would have been taken much more seriously. Instead, the Trump campaign didn’t even “announce” this. They gave it as an exclusive to Jack Posobiec a couple of hours after Trump’s NFT launch on Truth Social. The strategic fumble is unfortunate, as this actually addresses real issues in play rather than just Trump’s compulsion for self-promotion:

Arizona Sen. Kyrsten Sinema decided to shake up the political world on Friday by becoming an independent. The former Democrat is still caucusing with the party in the Senate, so the Democratic caucus still has 51 members. Now, instead of 49 Democrats and two independents within their ranks, the caucus has 48 Democrats and three independents. But that simple math hides a more clouded picture for Democrats and for Sinema herself. Sinema’s interests are no longer necessarily the Democrats’ best interests in the next Congress, and the 2024 Senate map became even more complicated for Democrats with Sinema’s decision. To be clear, Sinema has always been a thorn in the Democrats side

It’s called the “15 Minute City” and is intended to reduce auto emissions. Mostly, though, it will reduce liberty, which is what climate change madness has always been about.
