As Buffalo begins to dig itself out from its deadliest disaster in a decade, the plights of people stuck for days in frigid homes without much food, their streets still unplowed, have reignited deep economic and racial fault lines that have long polarized the city. (Snip) As the toll on the city has become clearer, a dozen residents and community leaders said in interviews that structural issues such as poverty, food deserts, poor housing and a lack of investment by government have made the impacts on working-class, Black and Brown neighborhoods much worse. They expressed concerns that surrounding wealthier and

In-laws are in Lackawanna. They've been enjoying lake effect snows for three generations now. They only plan ahead for the inevitable winter blizzard because they're racists. They just love how they blend in with the snow when they don their white robes and hoods.

Snow must be racist. It's white afterall.
When a city chases out all its businesses, that city loses revenue. The first cuts are things like snow removal and road repair. Saw it happen where I grew up. Only one road plowed through the city. Roads were 'patched' instead of paved, and slowly turned to gravel. Five layers of patchwork make for very uneven undrivable roads. Buffalo is turning into a wasteland like everything else in New York. This is what happens when governments aren't governing.
This isn't about racism. It's about dumb dishonest people electing dumb dishonest 'leaders' thinking they can thrive and prosper in such an environment. These idiots need to wise up and stop lying to themselves.

Using kenmore and its plowed streets as an example…the village of kenmore has its own government, taxes its residents, and plows it streets. They CHOOSE to pay higher taxes for better snow removal than do residents of other nearby communities. If you live in a poorer community, you pay less taxes and get less services. If you want your streets clear and don’t want to feet the bill, clear them yourself (I have).

Everything else is 'racist' so why not blizzards, snowplows, frozen pipes, firewood just winter in general. Darn smart white crackers preparing in advance for something that happens every year at this time in that area. It's not their fault there are 'food deserts' because of rampant shoplifting so businesses close and leave so riots follow, why?

100% victims - did you catch that? No one told them a storm was coming, no one told them to buy extra food, prepare for no power, or to prepare for extra snow. No one brought them anything or took them anywhere for safety. Shame on the police for going after thieves and looters! Apparently residents of Buffalo are completely helpless and are incapable of helping themselves!
I live right by the Sierras. Every year, multiple times a year, winters storms shut down the main roads that bring food and supplies. People stock up. NO ONE needs to tell us to have extra food on hand because it happens every year. It’s nice if local governments warn us - as they are doing right now on social media about a very wet storm coming this weekend. I have battery operated devices for light and charging my phone, extra food, extra wood in case power is lost and I will be getting sandbags in case of flooding (I live next to a small stream.) I take care of myself. I also check on my neighbors, who are also prepared.
In Buffalo, the ones I feel most sorry for are the elderly. Where is their family? Their church? Kudos to the pastor who is taking care of people. There is so much more wrong in Buffalo then simply their streets not getting plowed.

"Major winter storm Polarizes Buffalo"
Did POC NOT get the storm warnings when everyone else did?, were they not told to Prepare? Were they not told HOW to prepare? Did they not 'get the memo'? Did they not understand that to plow streets in a timely fashion that cars, trash, other stuff needs to be OFF the streets before the snow falls so that plow trucks can get through?
Did these "20 leaders of the Black community" reach out BEFORE the prominently forecasted weather to educate "their" people about what to expect, what to do....how to act? Or are these "20 leaders" the same 20 that complain about EVERYTHING, after the fact, and demand monies to be allocated to THEM to distribute as they see fit.

Here's the back story. The (D) county commissioner dissed the (D) mayor of Buffalo in his morning presser yesterday. Totally uncalled for and unsubstantiated claims. Snow removal in a city with 1800-era wide streets and few garages is vastly different than here in the burbs. The mayor hadn't even heard the nasty remarks when he was asked about it at his later press conference. Of course the rest of the pack of donkeys start braying and now there's enough noise to attract WAPO and other communists.
This is in-party fighting from the hot-head commissioner and the cool-as-a-cucumber mayor. In the meantime, here on the border of Kenmore/Tonawanda, the sun is shining and at 42ª that ice/rock pile at the end of the driveway will be joining Frosty the Snowman in a puddle. Hmm, after a week of eating what's left in the fridge, it might be time to order some wings...

If you believe everything in the article, it certainly appears to be a major disaster for a lot of obvious Biden and leftist Democrat voters who reside in the minority “communities” at Buffalo. So instead of basking in the Sun at a St. Croix, Virgin Island beach you would think that Biden would be at the White House working 24/7 to coordinate a big federal response to assist all of his minority voters in Buffalo. Even though there were for many days accurate forecasts as to the big blizzard that was headed towards Buffalo, along with past major lake effect snowstorms that the area has suffered, you would have to be pretty stupid indeed not to stock up on essential food and water that would last for a week or so. Claiming that firefighter and nurses, along with others on food stamps could not do that is completely bogus.

I didn't think lake-effect snow discriminates based on skin color. Unless all of the 'hoods in Buffalo are next to the lake shore which I rather doubt. Face it, Buffalonians, your city's response to the storm was woefully slow because the city's workers were all on holiday. A bad storm just came at a bad time.

Most cities plow the more traveled streets first and residential neighborhoods last for obvious reasons that have nothing to do with race or income level. Everything that happens on the planet is twisted into a racial issue by liberals. The strategy has lost its ability to draw sympathy or even interest.

What are the Black and Brown people segregating themselves for? Nobody forces them to live in the bad neighborhoods. Come to think of it, nobody forces their self segregated neighborhoods to be bad.
I live where I live based on quality of life and family ties, not based on skin color.
Some areas nearby are self segregated due to native languages. This is more ethnic than color based. Separate little countries within our country.

Violent, welfare dependent black folks with a deep seated sense of "you owe me" are a nationwide problem. The solution to this has to come from the working, contributing portion of the black community. All too often, they seem to remain silent, or are not able to be heard over the angry shouts of the leftist apologist for violent blacks or the power and money hungry "black leaders" who see violence and strife, disagreement and hate as their path to money and power.
And "equity" and "affirmative action" and the virulent racist hatred being taught under the banner of "Critical Race Theory" are all ways that more gasoline is poured onto the flames of division and violence.
As long as "black leaders" and extreme leftists, and the leftist media see racial division as a tool for them to gain power and make money, it is extremely difficult for ordinary people with good will come together and put this behind us. Racial demagoguery endlessly selling the politics of division to gullible blacks is a horribly destructive force.
And, in the moment, protecting one's self, family and property from violence is an imperative. Unfortunately, the only immediate response to violent attack that can work is counterviolence. Be prepared to defend yourself.

Back in the 970s, I was involved in a research project looking at giernement services provided in Buffalo, Rochester, and Syracuse.
On the matter of snow removal, Syracuse and Rochester had well thought out plans of action for emergencies. (all 3 cities suffer from lake effect storms.,)
Buffalo, a political machine city, had no emergency plan, but assigned snow plows by councilman district!
And when we visited Buffalo city hall, we found banks of automatic elevators - with a political appointee who pointed at the open doors. And at the top of city hall was an observation platform, with a policeman on duty. Why, we asked. Suicide attempt prevention was the answer. How? No answer.

What happens to the Federal & State $$$$ poured into these neighborhoods supposedly to improve conditions for the minority residents? There is never an accounting for any of it let alone evidence situations are improving. There is so much fraud and Buffalo is as big a swamp as Washington DC. Meanwhile the NYS Legislature just voted themselves another raise and the taxpayers are paying for a new stadium for the Buffalo football team when looking at the salary the people involved receive and the cost of the tickets they should be able to pay for that themselves. Forget the "equity" and "racism" rants as it's always an opportunity for un-elected bureaucrats to steal more from the taxpayers.

Second post apologies, but...You have t live in the snow belt to appreciate the inaccuracy of weather warnings. The wind direction, if correctly predicted, can dump a pile of snow on you. (Predcted for Erie, Pa for Christmas was 17 inches of snow. The actual snowfall - O inches. What happened? The wind shifted to Buffalo.)
When citizens receive constant, inaccurate warnings, they tend to ignore some of those warnings.
Back half a century ago, forecasters attached weight to the likelihood of something happening, along with explanations if it didn't happen. They don't do that any more., with the exception o hurricane paths.

Response to the storm has nothing to do with skin color or so-called 'food deserts'. The city government has been slow to plow the streets, just as they are slow to do just about everything else.
