On December 21, Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky delivered a speech to the United States Congress, which was well received by most representatives from both parties. Tucker Carlson criticized the speech, and its warm reception, on his nightly show. I find myself in agreement with Carlson on most issues — but we, being conservatives, celebrate the freedom to disagree with one another. And while the able Carlson had valid points to make, his overall spiel on this particular event was Manichean and easily refutable. [snip] how Carlson might respond had he been around for Winston Churchill’s speech to Congress

I don't watch any TV anymore but if Tucker or anyone said we have no business in Ukraine then I'm with them on that.
There is no strategic pro-American goal for us there. Just $113 billion down the drain. So far.
This is not Hitler, ww2, etc, on repeat. Every historical event is unique. The West is not at risk of destruction from Russia clobbering Ukraine. This is a war of 2 bad people with a long history having a local war of no true interest to anyone else.
If Ukraine wanted to buy weapons, then ok, sell them stuff but giving them $113 billion so far and certainly more on the way is madness.

Why roll back just to WWII for comparison, why not “the war to end all wars”, later known as WWI? It could be that we screwed up involving ourselves in yet another European war. They would go to war among themselves from time to time, fight until they ran out of soldiers, call a truce, redraw the borders where they stopped fighting, then go home to breed another generation of boys to be slaughtered in the next European war. By inserting ourselves into WWI, we changed the balance of power substantially right toward the end when it might have soon petered out of its own accord. The result in part set the stage for WWII. The Euro part of WWII might never have happened if the Euros had been left to their own devices to settle WWI. Churchill wouldn’t have happened, the speech to Congress, etc. But instead, having broken it in 1917, we’ve bought it, and can’t seem to uninvolve ourselves. How do we get off this merry go round?

This is the most superficial and ill-thought-out criticism yet posted. To compare the situation in Ukraine today with Europe in 1941 in any respect is the height of logic chopping, taking a few superficial similarities and building an entire edifice on that shaky foundation. It would take too long to go into all the dissimilarities in depth, but suffice to note that Ukraine is not Great Britain, nor is the clown Zelenskyy (yes, he who played a piano with his penis on television, hardly like debating in Parliament) anything like Churchill. Nor is Putin another Hitler with a desire for world conquest; Putin is the ruler of a country with a GDP lower than California by half, whose goal is merely to maintain his country's sovereignty against encroachment from the West. Ukraine is as, and likely even more corrupt than Russia, and provides no guarantees of any freedoms for its citizens. In fact, Zelenskyy has declared the Ukrainian opposition party as well as the Orthodox Church to be illegal and banned them from public activities. America has NO interest in the outcome of that dispute and we should promptly withdraw all support.

Whichever side you want to take on Ukraine, this is an asinine comparison.

All I see is those who have been spoon fed the one sided view of the war in Ukraine, a country ruled by organized crime, where organized criminals around the world go to launder their money, who is skimming the billions sent to them to line the pockets of criminals. So many are so out of touch on what led to this war because they are ignorant, buying what they are spoon fed.

Basically in WWII the USA spent billions of taxpayer dollars and the lives of 300,000 American service men to replace Hitler and Tojo with Stalin and Mao. Certainly the German and Japanese dictators were mass murders and inhuman monsters. But they were Boy Scouts compare with their Russian and Chinese replacements. Everyone is revulsed by the slaughter of Ukrainians AND Russians. But, we don't have the resources nor the moral right to be the world's police. America First. And Last.

My two 20-something grandsons kept us all amused after dinner with photos of Biden and Volodymyr Zelensky They are looking ahead but the camera was looking at their backs. Just in time to see Biden grabbing a handful of Zelensky's butt. One grandson said ''Aw that's just a football touch for great game.'' Bless his heart.

Mr. Skeets is an idiot. There is no parody here. Just a fool’s effort to appear erudite and sophisticated. Instead, he proves the opposite. Zelensky and Biden deserve each other.

It really is sad that so many "conservatives" who would be right in there in WW2 doing anything and everything to help Britain stave off Nazi Germany, cannot see that Russia invading Ukraine is very similar to the Nazis taking over Europe.
And then --- certain Americans, including Lindbergh said that the USA should stay out, and that the Nazis really weren't all that bad. LOTS of folks didn't want to get involved, spend any of out money.
And today....those who fought, built weapons and did what was needed to help all of Europe defeat the Nazis are called "The Greatest Generation".
And yet, so many "conservatives" cannot see through all the propaganda, which is ultimately pro-Russian propaganda, and support a people desperately fighting against a powerful, purely evil foe.
So much disinformation, swallowed so easily by folks who think that they are smart and informed.

I don't need Tucker to tell me we should get out of Ukraine. I had already developed my opinion long
before I heard anything from Tucker.
I think Biden supports Ukraine because of his son's business deals.
Biden is responsible for the current leaders of the Ukraine because of what he did as VP.
Zelensky recently demanded that we launch nukes at Russia which would result in starting WWIII.
He is insane and we certainly should not support him.
The dems have always been pro Russia but after Hillary and the FBI/CIA created the Russia hoax
that falsely accused Trump of being in bed with Russia they had to start hating Russia in order to
justify their hatred of Trump. So now they support the Ukraine when in the past they would have been
on Russia's side.

I hope #8’s 20-something grandsons don’t get drafted into being cannon fodder for Biden’s folly. Nor anyone else for that matter. He’s just the sort of fool politician to bumble us into a war.

Zelensky is trying to help himself, not the Ukrainian people. Just like Biden, McConnell, et al are trying to hide their sins, not help we the peons. The best outcome of this mob war would be to see both Putin and Zelenski hanging from a tree. I am rooting for the peons of both countries, not the maniacs that run them.

I think Tucker Carlson is often doing good things. I used to always agree with him. On the UFO stuff.....he's nutso, its sad to watch. On Ukraine - he's totally wrong, and when he started this mess, I changed the channel. My wife records his stuff, has me watch occasional bits, I never watch Fox.
