It is one of the most bitter and tragic ironies of our contemporary politics that the leadership of one of America’s two major political parties, the Republican Party, utterly despises that party’s very own voting base.
The GOP elite’s scorn for its own voters has, at this point, been a long time in the making. The trend accelerated during the 2009-2011 rise of the Tea Party, a grassroots movement fueled by constitutionalism and anti-elite populism. The crustier elements of the Republican establishment ran as far away as possible from the Tea Party, and the 2012 presidential coronation of private equity plutocrat Mitt Romney effectively killed the movement.

The Guardian just reported the results of a study of 2 million-year-old DNA found in northern Greenland.
Two-million-year-old DNA from northern Greenland has revealed that the region was once home to mastodons, lemmings and geese, offering unprecedented insights into how climate change can shape ecosystems.
The breakthrough in ancient DNA analysis pushes back the DNA record by 1m years to a time when the Arctic region was 11-19C warmer than the present day. The analysis reveals that the northern peninsula of Greenland, now a polar desert, once featured boreal forests of poplar and birch trees teeming with wildlife. The work offers clues to how species might adapt,

On Friday’s broadcast of MSNBC’s “The ReidOut,” Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-TX) stated that Viktor Bout, the arms dealer who was serving time in prison for agreeing to supply weapons to U.S. agents posing as Colombian terrorists to kill Americans, freed by the Biden administration in the prisoner swap to secure the release of Brittney Griner from Russia, is “a nasty, bad” person, but “He has not killed Americans.” Although, Jackson Lee noted that Bout’s “weapons might have been used to kill Americans.”
Jackson Lee stated, “Let me say this, no one knows the story of Paul — of the weapons dealer, if you will.

Violent and disrespectful classroom behavior has led to a staggering 50 teachers and bus drivers to quit a Florida school district in the last two years.
Brevard County School District, the state’s 10th-largest, held a heated meeting Thursday that offered an unvarnished and often disturbing glimpse into the state of its classrooms.
“On an everyday basis I am deflecting being attacked, scratched, headbutted, pushed, hit,” teacher Alicia Kelderhouse said as her voice choked with emotion. “I’ve had my hair pulled, and pulled down to the ground. I’ve had my throat gone for on multiple occasions. It’s on an everyday basis right now.”

Griner, 32, “arrived at Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston, Texas early Friday … and was taken to Brooke Army Medical Center for a routine evaluation,” a State Department official told CNN.
US officials who met Griner said she was “in good spirits” and “incredibly gracious,” National Security Council spokesperson John Kirby told CNN. Griner stepped off the plane shortly after 5:30 a.m. ET at Kelly Field.

Brittney Griner negotiator Bill Richardson has expressed his sadness that Paul Whelan didn't come home together with the basketball star, adding that he thinks Russian President Vladimir Putin overruled his advisers at the end of negotiations, dismissing a "two-for-two" exchange of prisoners. "I was sad that Paul Whelan was not part of it. I've been for four years trying to find formulas to get Paul back, but it always seems that, at the very end, there's a roadblock," Richardson, a former New Mexico governor and former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, told CBC on Friday. "I thought there would

Renowned soccer journalist Grant Wahl has died, the U.S. Soccer Federation reported Friday. Wahl, 48, was in Qatar covering the World Cup when he passed away.
Wahl’s agent, Tim Scanlan, said that the journalist “appeared to have suffered some sort of acute distress in the press room” of the stadium during the quarterfinal match between Argentina and the Netherlands, when the two teams began playing in extra time. Paramedics were called to the scene, Scanlan said, but were unable to revive him.

A Member of Parliament (MP) for Britain’s governing Conservative (Tory) Party plans to put forward a bill that will allow Parliament to strip Prince Harry and wife Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, of their titles, in response to their politically-charged Netflix series.
Bob Seely, who represents the Isle of Wight in the House of Commons, believes that the woke couple who abandoned their public duties to pursue activism and public duties years ago now, have forfeited the right to royal status with the publication of the series. The big-headline Netflix documentary has been criticised for trashing Britain as a hub for racism and slavery, cast Brexit

Under a bill signed by Governor Gavin Newsom in 2020, California is looking into possible ways to provide restitution to Black Americans who experienced the generational effects of slavery—and the state's reparations plan might potentially benefit White-identifying individuals, some analysts have said. A nine-member Reparations Task Force was deployed to to travel across the state and develop reparation recommendations and propose solutions to its findings, which take into account the harms that Black people suffered. With the holidays quickly approaching, parents, media figures and the entertainment industry are criticizing many of the traditions behind Christmas.
Even Santa himself has come under fire. Some Gen Z parents aren’t allowing their children to believe he is real, as evidenced by the hashtag #santaisntreal which has received nearly 19M views on TikTok. Many parents cite concerns that once their children find out Santa’s magic is a myth, they’ll be "traumatized."
Mother Sierra McKenzie went viral for a video she posted to TikTok stating she wouldn’t be "lying to them [her kids] about Santa,"

President Joe Biden on Thursday celebrated the news that his administration had successfully secured the release of WNBA basketball player Brittney Griner, who was detained in Russia.
“Brittney is an incomparable athlete,” Biden said, noting she was a two-time Olympic Gold medalist for the United States.
Griner was arrested in February at a Moscow airport by Russian officials for possession of cannabis vape cartridges.
“She represents the best about America — just across the board, everything about her,” Biden said. The White House had to have known the kind of response the Brittney Griner prisoner swap with Viktor Bout, a.k.a. the Merchant of Death would bring. That is likely why reports say
