Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) will no longer be Speaker of the House of Representatives — but she could nominate the next Speaker. In doing so, she could point the way toward the political accommodations so badly needed in a polarized America. (snip) The nominee would need to be a person who has earned the respect of both parties and demonstrated commitment to finding common ground among partisans, whenever possible. Such people exist. John Kasich, former governor of Ohio and erstwhile chairman of the House Budget Committee, and Paul Ryan, a former House Speaker and vice presidential candidate, would stand high

Why the first "republican" that came to mind is none other than Liz Cheney. Perfect. Kasich is a total kook. Eddie Munster is a deep-state RINO. Surely they can do better.

If Kasich or Ryano, or Bonehead, or some RINOcrat does not lead with the will of the base, that willl be the end of the Republican party.
Putting another Benedict traitor in charge will take the BASE to a third party that does NOT have RINOs

Using the names Kasich and Paul Ryan along with the word "respected" in the same paragraph gives immediate notice that this article is a bunch of Bull-ony.

This Frye person is living in a world of fantasy. It is bad enough that a RINO McCarthy will probably be the new Speaker, but to suggest for the post other RINOs and using Pelosi in the same breath is silly.

I thought this was a parody, at first. But here is the Democrats being clever. You put up a gafoon like the mailman's son or the moron who lost a debate to Joe Biteme. You get enough of the effeminate moderate Republicans to join the Dems and elect the Speaker. How do they pick Majority Leader or Committee Chairmen? I have an idea and it doesn't include guys like Jim Jordan. If this is a viable plan then nominate Mr. Newt and give the real Republicans somebody they can vote for.

Why should the losing Speaker of the House have any say in her successor? I don't think it works that way!

RE #1, Butch Patrick is a tax-paying asset to society. His character (Eddie Munster) was a deeper thinker as a child than Paul Ryan will ever hope to be, and it's an insult to the man to have that idiot Ryan compared to him. :)

If this idea even catches on (a longshot, I know), look for Pierre Delecto to run for the light and offer to drop his Senate seat in order to sit in the chair that is right behind Old Man Biden and Goofy Kamala Harris in succession to the Presidency. He has been hoping for some sort of proposal like this, so he can step in as Biden grows increasingly demented (or dies) and Harris faces impeachment or extreme pressure from the dems to force her to resign. This is one reason Pierre has adopted numerous dem positions, so he can claim to have been on their side as much as the Republican side.
Interesting that this writer doesn't mention the Speaker of the House being two deaths or resignations away from ascending to the Presidency.

I have an even better idea. How about the Republicans keep Nancy Pelosi as Speaker or let her appoint a younger successor, say Eric Swalwell or Adam Schiff, and then all the committee chairmanships can go to anyone the Speaker chooses. If we start doing things this way then in the future there will be no need for those troublesome elections where everyone bickers about who really won. No accusations of fraud, no need to hire spin doctors to explain ordinary occurrences so even the idiotic Republicans can understand. Things like why 3K+ ballots, all of them containing votes for Democrats, are found in bushes behind an abandoned building or in the trunk of some election worker’s car just in the nick of time whenever a Republican appears to win a hotly contested district. It’s so simple! No matter what, Democrats get control without all the fuss. Voila! Problem solved! And everybody’s happy! s/

The Democrats ruled from the minority in Texas by propping up a RINO uniparty fake for almost a decade. Took a long time to stop it.

First and foremost at this point "Bipartisanship" is the very last thing America needs! 79% of America believes it is on the wrong path...Once that is corrected, it will be time for "Bipartisanship" and ONLY then!

Pardon the 2nd post, but seriously, after considering #12 post, it brings this to mind--
LBJ, who bitterly lost the 1960 Dem nomination to JFK grudgingly stated that he would accept the 2nd slot on the ticket to bring Texas with him by reportedly saying "he would only be a heartbeat away" (or an assassination) from the Presidency.
Pierre Mittens Delecto would only be TWO heartbeats away if he was chosen to be Speaker. There would be Kamala lala at #2 and Chuck U. Schumer at #4--ALL bad choices, and we would still be screwed.

Dems discover the virtues of bipartisan compromise as soon as they become the minority party. Becoming the majority again turns them into bloviating bulldozers. Thanks for the reminder, Alton.

Bipartisanship is bullshtuff. This nation was founded on conflict inherent in government designed to make things difficult that would extract liberty from this new society.
The only winner these days, whether McCarthy, Pelosi, Kasich, Ryan or Cheney is the UNIPARTY. That's true for virtually any name you'd like to add. And that's not to be confused with bipartisanship. The UNIPARTY is suffering these days from a bit of old age, and now is a time to attack, attack, attack. The question is whether Americans will get the picture...more free shtuff will keep many quiet.

The ONLY bi-partisans there ARE republicans with the occasional,
rare, exception of Manchin dems have been 100% partisan and voted in 100% lockstep.
IF an unelected Speaker were to be named, I would suggest Newt, he knows the processes and the powers , brought lots of Dems onboard many Bills and Policies as speaker previously....until backstabbed and removed by Kasich etal.
What the writer is proposing is NOT bi-partisanship...it is merely a claim that Dems should still control the House even though they have been voted out. This writer made no such proposal when Dems retook the gavel.....by their slimmest majority in History, but insisted that Trump abandon nearly all policies and kowtow to the Speaker, "In Bipartisanship".

Yes nominate Paul Ryan, who blocked every attempt by Trump to close the border and drain the swamp. What an arrogant, dim-witted man. The people spoke, and elected Trump. Ryan spoke, and betrayed the people. McConnell joined Ryan, and ought to be out of power tomorrow.
