Elon Musk began firing hundreds of Twitter employees on Friday, four days before the midterm elections, including key members of the teams that work on U.S. elections and content moderation on the high-profile social-media platform.
Tweets flooded the platform on Friday, many using the hashtags #LoveWhereYouWork and #OneTeam, as employees let others know that they had been let go. Many of those posting had previously worked in roles including public policy, trust and safety, communications, engineering, marketing and human resources.

The WSJ points out today that layoffs are tech wide in preparation for recession.
The sense of political entitlement at Twitter is astonishing. Twitter, with or without Trump, does not affect elections. Most voters don't get near the site. It does affect newsrooms.

They imply that this is a bad thing. Seems like a good start, certainly Musk doesn’t need the employees who met regularly with the Feds!

I love to hear about all these Twits at Twitter, running around with their dresses over their heads, screaming about their "rights" and how unfair life is. This is FUN to watch!

They're probably "at will" employees who can be fired with the stroke of a pen. Good luck finding another tech gig with FB, Amazon, Lyft and others either freezing hiring or laying off workers. I wonder how many were working from home and holding down multiple "full-time" jobs. Those would be the first on my hit list.

The employees and activist left are acting like this is the apocalypse. For them, maybe, for everyone else, they probably won't even notice that half of the Twitter employees are gone. Tweets will still post, responses, some smart, some idiotic, will be posted, and the world will go on.

Finding out you've been laid off by email might seem to be cold and ruthless, but in IT, it's prudent - because allowing disgruntled employees to be employed for another month or two could do irreparable harm to the company.
Most IT companies do mass layoffs like this and then keep you on the payroll for several months.
And, as an earlier poster mentioned, the slowing economy is causing companies to rethink and shrink their advertising budgets. This affects the revenues of companies like Twitter, Google, Facebook, TikTok, ... So we're gonna see a lot more of this kind of layoff over the next 3-6 months.

It's his company now. He can do with it as he wants, including plunging it "...into chaos".
Get over yourselves.

Was the timing part of his plan, all along? As for getting "zero communication" about jobs at risk, that's how it works, kids. Having been there several times, termination is unannounced, sudden, and over very quickly. But hey, you'll be okay. Just don't be fooled into thinkg that Amazon is offering you any sympathy - like any ambitious company, they're just looking for available talent.

The early part of the article makes it seem like only content moderation, election integrity teams, etc. are affected. Then a couple of paragraphs later, they admit there are across the board cuts. Which is it?
The left is complaining about all the job cuts and encouraging advertisers to stop advertising. But that'll just lead to even more job cuts.

Whoever wrote this article should be fired. The confusion regarding Twitter layoffs is almost entirely a media created thing. Here is what laid offs received:
"Hello,
As shared earlier today, Twitter is conducting a workforce reduction to help improve the health of the company. These decisions are never easy and it is with regret that we write to inform you that your role at Twitter has been impacted.
Today is your last working day at the company, however, you will remain employed by Twitter and will receive compensation and benefits through your separation date of February 2, 2023.
During this time, you will be on a Non-Working Notice period and your access to Twitter systems will be deactivated. While you are not expected to work during the Non-Working Notice period, you are still required to comply with all company policies, including the Employee Playbook and Code of Conduct.
Within a week, you will receive details of your severance offer, financial resources extending beyond your Non-Working Notice period. At that time you will also receive a Separation Agreement and Release of Claims and other offboarding information, such as how to return your Twitter materials (computer, badge, etc.)."
That is 90 DAYS' NOTICE. The lawsuits alleging violation of the Federal WARN Act requiring 60 days' notice are without merit. It is a generous offer, and the wording implies (to me) the real possibility of further compensation to sign a suit waiver.

Of all the stuff scaring the stuffing out of the Left right now, I would say their favorite agenda pusher being bought by Musk is at the top of the list.

I call bs on the whining about receiving the news via email. I worked for a small tech co in their development dept. Very few like talking. Text, chat, email.
Awesome timing Elon! He probably saved himself a lot of problems doing this prior to the election. Plus it's a full moon.
