THE DEPARTMENT OF HOMELAND SECURITY is quietly broadening its efforts to curb speech it considers dangerous, an investigation by The Intercept has found. Years of internal DHS memos, emails, and documents — obtained via leaks and an ongoing lawsuit, as well as public documents — illustrate an expansive effort by the agency to influence tech platforms.
The work, much of which remains unknown to the American public, came into clearer view earlier this year when DHS announced a new “Disinformation Governance Board”: a panel designed to police misinformation (false information spread unintentionally), disinformation (false information spread intentionally), and malinformation

What do they do when it is proven that that the "disinformation" was proven to be true. Like Hunter's laptop and covid shots.

What part of the 1st Amend says Govt can regulate speech? When Govt deputizes NGOs to regulate speech, it is the same as the Govt regulating speech? These actions are unconstitutional. Lame Duck should be impeached for this action. No Joke.

Just another example of a giant government agency becoming hard left wing, then wandering off from it’s original mission and sticking it’s nose where it has no business.
DHS needs to be closed up, and Mayorkas immediately terminated.

When (if?) Republicans win both houses of congress, one of the very first items they should address is to totally defund the DHS.

Identifying disinformation is MY job, not the government's. Get off my lawn.

The First Amendment is INTENTIONALLY being undermined by our federal government. The Article includes:
"In June, the same DHS advisory committee of CISA — which includes Twitter head of legal policy, trust, and safety Vijaya Gadde and University of Washington professor Kate Starbird — drafted a report to the CISA director calling for an expansive role for the agency in shaping the “information ecosystem.” The report called on the agency to closely monitor “social media platforms of all sizes, mainstream media, cable news, hyper partisan media, talk radio and other online resources.” They argued that the agency needed to take steps to halt the “spread of false and misleading information,” with a focus on information that undermines “key democratic institutions, such as the courts, or by other sectors such as the financial system, or public health measures.”
To accomplish these broad goals, the report said, CISA should invest in external research to evaluate the “efficacy of interventions,” specifically with research looking at how alleged disinformation can be countered and how quickly messages spread. Geoff Hale, the director of the Election Security Initiative at CISA, recommended the use of third-party information-sharing nonprofits as a “clearing house for information to avoid the appearance of government propaganda.”

DHS was stood up in 2003, created by Congress via the Homeland Security Act of 2002, signed into law by Bush - 43. Congress can stand down DHS or amend the enabling legislation to more specifically spell out what DHS must (border security) do and must not (abridging first amendment rights) do. A GOP Congress might not be able to override a Biden veto but it can use appropriations or lack thereof to alter its activities and any number of democrat president can be impeached and removed by the same GOP Congress. An appropriations vert would effectively shut down government, something the dems would be hard-pressed to do, as for democrats, government is everything, including their God, although spelled with a small "g" in pagan fashion. The grounds for impeachment are already there for Biden's egregiously willful failure to obey a Constitution's "Take Care" clause, which can be applied by extension as a directive to take care that existing immigration law be enforced, regardless of the dem mantra of their calls for "comprehensive immigration reform" (citizenship as reward for illegal entry).

I say close DHS down altogether. After all, it does not accomplish what the name implies, and it certainly has changed massively since Bush called this monster into life. It's a useless behemoth of bureaucracy that achieves the opposite of what it was supposed to accomplish. Impeach Mayorkas and send the rest of them back home!
