The Army fell approximately 15,000 (25%) people short of meeting their recruiting goals this year, and some Pentagon officials focused on the tight job market as the culprit.[i] Though access to civilian jobs and higher pay is a factor, the truth is broader and ignored at our peril. Rather than confront the reality of what is occurring in the military and the consequences of these actions, these same officials have decided to make blaming anything but the truth an Olympic level sport and our nation’s readiness to defeat our adversaries is running in last place.
I served in the military for 28 years, both

Very few veterans are recommending family or friends' kids enter the military now. The current military environment is not something we could support ourselves. And it's going to get a lot worse before it gets better.

Go figure. Just because the current leadership is more concerned about "inclusion diversity, trans-rights vac status and "maga" rather than actual military training and prepardness why won't folks enlist,
Oh and can't omit "global warming".

I was in the Army. As was my Dad and uncles I respected and wanted to emulate.
But these days, if I was 18, I hope I would have the sense to say no. When there is an invasion fleet approaching our shore or massive tank armies poised in Mexico or Canada to invade us, I would certainly join. But no American should join in order to fight wars in other countries for an outcome that will not change life in America one way or the other.

Absolutely. I served 28 years, my son-in-law 20, he's now a teacher at a DOD school overseas. After 1/6, Milley and Austin accused the forces of harboring White Supremacists, followed by an attempt in May (later cancelled) to introduce CRT in elementary classrooms, under the direction of DOD schools DEI chief Kelisa Wing. (Look up her books on Amazon; What is Anti-Racism?, What is White Privilege?, How Can I be an Ally?; What Does It Mean to Defund the Police; etc.) Imagine being a military parent questioning this at an air base PTA meeting. It's going to take more than 2022 and 2024 to turn this around, assuming we get passed Armageddon.

There's a cadre of 17-19 year old kids out there who have no connection to the military, and have no desire to make that connection. And why should they? If they are bright and ambitious, the world is largely their oyster these days. college education or otherwise. If they are bright and not so ambitious, they'll get by. The not-so-bright and ambitious will hustle. Those not-so-bright and not ambitious will get their welfare money, maybe live in mom's basement or Big Mama's public housing apartment, and live happily by that standard.
This cadre never knew 9/11, and doesn't give a damn about Afghanistan or "seeing the world", or taking orders from anyone. Taking orders may be considered mindless and menial in a world where the young demand respect, not "dissing". Posters here who have military backgrounds regularly talk of how they dissuade their children/grandchildren/anyone who will listen from joining up. And many straight, white males are just going Galt when faced with the challenges of "affirmative action" in colleges, professional schools, employment, and promotion. Look at the attendance and class demographics.
This isn't the same world we grew up in. And it's going to change even more.

Why fight for a country that will not support you?
