There’s always some mystery in the news that provides a blank page for fantasy thinking. This week’s mystery has initiated a storm of speculation: What happened to cause leaks in Russia’s Nord Stream 1 and 2, designed to send gas to Germany? The speculation runs from rational to delusional.
A good example of more rational speculation is by Jed Babbin at the Spectator: He thinks Russia is the most likely suspect:
Germany, Sweden, the United States, and other NATO nations would not have attacked the pipelines. There has been some speculation among U.S. conservatives that we were responsible for the pipeline attacks.

Because it took a while after Hugo Chavez's oil takover and subsequent gift of oil maintanence to his own family and friends caused breakdowns in the entire oil refining infrastructure, I knew right away Russia's pipeline breeches were accidents caused by turning off the supply.
The Ukraine war has caused regular maintanence to be faked.
Pipelines need constant care, tweaking, as it were.
It's Russia's own fault those breaks happened.

I smell BO
At least twice this year, Biden’s administration knowingly promised to end that pipeline.

Clarice does it again. She completely convinces on the Russian incompetence via the pipeline theory; but the real nugget in the article is on censorship. Read this part twice. It is the most comprehensive, chilling analysis of how the darkness of the left worked to silence our voices in 2020 and will do so again. They had a plan and worked their plan. What did we have? And what do we have now?

I read the LawDog post yesterday and thought it was credible. I'm glad it's getting wider circulation. Anyone who has lived under communism knows how terrible their products are, often because the workers are so unmotivated to do a decent job. And I think Russians retain many communist traits. It's funny that before LawDog's post came out the maintenance issue wasn't even considered; people became wedded to defending either their "the U.S. did it" or "Russia did it" narratives. It's still possible that one of those narratives is true, but barely, in my mind.

The Law Dog link is good. I chuckled at his use of the Russian work ethic. Putin is in trouble at home. BTW, he also shut off the natural gas to Italy after Italy announced it backs Ukraine.

The timing is too good for the self-destructive Biden cabal to not have done it. Remember when that huge oil well in the Gulf of Mexico sprung a big leak right after Obama announced that drilling should be shut off in the Gulf? SEALs work well underwater and they blow things up, you know.

Whether directly or not, Biden is responsible for the pipeline's destruction. This conflict would have ended long ago if the US had not interfered with negotiations. And I do not believe the war itself would have taken place if Trump were in office. Who actually pulled the trigger is somewhat immaterial since the intended result is to either punish Europe for their Ukraine position or to push people towards a non-petroleum future. I favor the former. The latter will have the opposite effect.

Having lived behind the Iron Curtain for 3 years, I’ve also seen the lack of any quality in all things made or maintained by communists. It goes right to the old truism about communism - “They pretend to pay us and we pretend to work.”
However, I do find it curious that Biden walked away from answering any questions on the pipeline explosions.
By the way, has anyone heard a peep from the Greenies, especially AOC and the like, about the environmental damage done by these pipelines and the explosions? Didn’t think so.

Well done, Clarice. In light of her excellent point on censorship, we will probably never know the truth of what happened. Down the Memory Hole it goes. The Ukraine war did bring Russian maintenance neglect to light. This still does not rule out sabotage, but media loves intrigue, so everything gets thrown out there. Same with social media. Sometimes the simplest explanation is the truth.

Remember the Maine!!
Seems it was an accidental coal bunker explosion, not a Spanish mine, that brought us to war. One can concoct any story from any event to start a patriotic stampede. In this case, all sides can prosper with their version of whodunnit.

Clarice's most salient point is that someone is lying, which she expertly validated in the second part of her column using the left's own admissions of malfeasance dressed up as concerned world citizens.
I subscribe to Occam's Razor: Putin had a switch which would not have caused two Richter events, would not have destroyed his most valuable bargaining chip and would not have put him in the defensive position in which he finds himself. The USS Kearsarge, with its compliment of UDT personnel, was conducting underwater drone operations in the Baltic during the same time frame. Biden and Nuland clearly stated their intention to curtail Nord 1 and 2's mission upon the potential Russian advancement into Ukraine. And finally, Putin would not, in my opinion, have cleared the way for the Baltic Pipe to breathe life back into the EU and Ukraine where they were once facing a winter without heat.
Putin, being ex KGB and as crafty as a three legged coyote would not have surrendered his massive leverage just to blame the US and UK. He said that those that benefit the most did the deed, and that would be the neocons here and in the UK. Beware his wrath in the months ahead.

After a decade of running projects with Russians, I found that many Russian top scientists are very smart, capable people. But, a substantial part of the management of Russian institutes is by thuggish, incompetent, lazy and willing to lie to your face bureaucrats. And when you catch them in the lie, a day after they lied to you, they aren't embarrassed, don't even make excuses, just shrug.
Never underestimate the power of Russian incompetence and corruption. If there were inspections and maintenance to do, but the line was shut down, its a good bet that everyone was drunk and or sleeping.
The possibility of an accident due to deferred maintenance is very real. And you can bet that if the pipeline operations folks know they screwed up, they will be lying forever about it.

I thought this explanation made more sense. So much of Russian infrastructure is shoddy and maintained by unmotivated and incompetent workers (see Chernobyl). This could easily be nothing more than a huge screwup with the people in charge of running the pipeline desperately trying to cover their a**** lest they be sent to one of the gulags.

#9, one of the few exceptions to your statement is Kalashnikov's extremely successful AK-47, a rifle in existence for decades and still used by most of the militaries in the world. While it may not look as slick as the compact, black, polished competition, it has been an amazing and thoroughly reliable part of my collection for about 30 years. As for the other stuff, you are correct. As easy as it is to make a solid, reliable motorcycle that will run for years, the Russian Ural is slow, weak, breaks often and has a top speed of around 60 mph. Every bike from Japan, America and Europe can at least double that, even the small ones with half the engine displacement of the Ural. Russia's problem is not its people, it is communism and naturally that is the path that the really stupid people in America want to follow.

Since no one knows what really happened, Feldman's article is very plausible. But....
FTA: Second, Biden is too gun-shy to order any such strike. He and Secretary of State Antony Blinken would certainly consult with Germany and France before doing so, and they would have vetoed the move.
Babbin's above statement presumes that Biden and Blinken are the ones making the decisions. It's actually a naive statement. Obama's minions in the WH the ones really running the country, are fully capable of the most heinous, brutal acts to carry out their agenda to destroy the US. So, sadly, no theory should be off the table.

the real question is who shut our fossil fuels pipeline off; because if we are producing properly, then we could supply ALL our allies with the gas/oil to run their industry, vehicles, heating. If we were producing up to our capacity, then Russia would not be cutting the supply off to Europe because that would just give us more paying customers to supply.
The commies know that if they can get Biden/Obama to cut fuel production in America, then they have their foot in the door to bring some of Europe under their boot.

FTA: “ And I remind you that the best definition of fascism, in my view, is a coordinated state-corporate system which works to silence all opposition to an autocratic government.”
All this is being done by tax payer money funded to corrupt government agencies and they use it to spread misinformation or prevent any opposing information from seeing the light of day. We are funding our own destruction. These agencies have too much money, zero accountability and even less integrity. Our government is thoroughly corrupt and fails the people of this country on a daily basis. These unelected bureaucrats believe they are untouchable and that has to change.

The article is correct in that...maintenance of the pipelines was non/existent..and given Russia's pathetic performance in the Ukraine ...I suspect the author is spot on....russia was not up to the job...although the new world order dudes could be involved...they don't like any fuel...only wind and solar dreams of grandeur...if they kill off millions with winter round the corner...it's in their "thinning out the herd" mentality....
