Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) signed a law Friday that will decriminalize jaywalking across California, ending the familiar practice of police handing out tickets to pedestrians on the argument that the law is enforced more often against minorities than other people. The new law, AB 2147, known as the “Freedom to Walk Act,” could bring an end to a cultural difference that has marked otherwise libertine Californians as being uniquely deferential to laws governing pedestrian traffic. The difference between Californians, who ostensibly tend to obey “don’t walk” signals, and urban dwellers elsewhere in the country, who are notoriously defiant when it comes to crossing against traffic signals, was lampooned

Only a fool jaywalks in California. Another crime apparently committed by only blacks? And yet they don’t want to be profiled? Their profile doesn’t look too good...

Phil Ting. Chinese. Reminds me of China where people walk wherever they wish and often suffer the consequences as motor vehicle drivers show no mercy. We saw one old woman laid out by the side of the road, hit by a truck. No one seemed to care.
They should call this guy Pfffft Ting.

By this logic murder could be decriminalized. I mean it as a sarcasm. Kalifornia Demokrats might be serious!

Growing up in California, I only remember seeing white kids jaywalk. Maybe that was racist, too.

I thought Jaywalking laws were to protect the pedestrian. Turns out they were just another Bull Connor 2.0. This will be a new rallying cry for Dems and wokesters.

Are the Blacks in California ok with their Governor thinking they don’t know to cross the street or get an ID? Will they ever get tired of being treated like they’re stupid?

Here in our city we have a six lane xpress way dividing a apartment complex from a small strip mall , the state finally had to erect four miles of barrier mid the xpress way. The occupants of the apartment complex couldn't resist playing human frogger to get across to the Burlington Coat Factory. Lots of cheap bling

The statistics show without a doubt that "minorities" are also the ones who are most likely to be injured while walking. It seems they seldom cross at the intersection. They also lack sufficient self-awareness to observe an approaching vehicle. Of course, they also live among others like themselves, who, when behind the wheel, exhibit the same degree of inattentiveness, lack of self-awareness and unwillingness to conform to societal and legal norms, like obeying traffic laws and rules of the road. So, in a way, this is ackshually racist inasmuch as more "minorities" will wind up dead and maimed as a result. Yay Governor Newsom!

It goes hand-in-hand with legal shoplifting. You can't be expected to carry an armload of heavy merchandise all the way up to the crosswalk at the corner. Use your head. When everybody converts to EVs out there, the jaywalkers will not be able to hear the cars coming... Hmmmmmmm - Splat!

I’m wondering why there is anyone with half a brain, still living in that F’d up State. I can’t come up with an appropriate description of the morons running that place. The stupid Bill that the idiot governor signed was first passed by a demented Legislature. They’ve ruined that state beyond recognition. They had to work at it. As Henny Youngman might have said—-Take the Cesspool city of San Francisco—-please!!

When was the last time you saw anyone arrested for jaywalking? 30 years ago ? Off to jail with you . No bail.

Jaywalking though? Not in Singapore maybe, but in the US. Who has the time to arrest someone for jaywalking. I'm sure there are millions who have never even heard of jaywalking. It's like right of way in driving.

They seem to be talking about walking on the “don’t walk” light at an intersection. Most jaywalking is in the middle of blocks when someone doesn’t want to walk to the corner.

Looks like to me that it is "racist" to arrest a black person for anything. They can literally get away with murder. It must be nice to be black. They now have black privilege. Isn't that special!!!!

Because black people don't know red from green and can't read so they're disadvantage to white people and do know red from green and can read. Mexicans however are on their own.
Racist!!

How many pedestrian fatalities will there be as a result of this woke legislation? I hope they won't blame racism if they get run over.

If you've ever driven in Tijuana, its like being in a life-sized game of Frogger. Consider yourself lucky if you DON'T hit someone. I suspect most of Tijuana lives in CA by now.

Let's just get rid of all the laws then we'll have no crime. We won't have to pay policemen or have jails. That sounds like the California way of thinking.

By the same "logic:", blacks will no longer be prosecuted for any crimes, since they commit 10x as much crime as any other group.

If someone in Kalifornia is jaywalking and causes a vehicle accident is the jaywalker responsible for the accident? Is the jaywalking financially responsible for any vehicle damage? Is the jaywalker responsible for any physical injury liability as a result of the accident? Does anyone in the Kalifornia legislature or the Newsome regime believe their wokeness is a good thing?
