Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) said on Saturday that she will not remain a Republican if former President Donald Trump is the GOP presidential nominee in the 2024 elections, and that she would also be willing to campaign for Democrats to stop GOP nominee Kari Lake from being elected in the Arizona gubernatorial race.
Cheney, who has been called a “Republican in name only” by others in her party and lost the Republican primary to Trump-backed challenger Harriet Hageman in August, made the comments at The Texas Tribune festival in Austin.
“I’m going to do everything I can to make sure Kari Lake is not elected,” Cheney said.

White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre encouraged the Atlanta Braves to have a “conversation” about picking a new name Monday—hours after President Biden hosted the team to celebrate their 2021 World Series championship. Jennifer Jacobs of Bloomberg News asked Jean-Pierre at her regular briefing for Biden’s position on the Braves’ nickname as well as the controversial “tomahawk chop” cheer. “We believe that it’s important to have this conversation, you know, and Native American and indigenous voices, they should be at the center of this conversation,” Jean-Pierre responded. “That is something that the president believes, that is something this administration believes, and he has consistently emphasized

Hurricane Ian rapidly intensified Monday as it barreled toward Florida, threatening dangerous storm surges in places not used to getting hit directly by a hurricane. Florida could start feeling Ian’s wrath as early as Tuesday, with hurricane conditions potentially hitting the state Wednesday. Evacuation orders were issued Monday for some military personnel and residents, as Ian whipped 80-mph winds and churned northwest about 100 miles west of Grand Cayman, the Miami-based National Hurricane Center said. “Rapid strengthening is expected during the next day or so, and Ian is forecast to become a major hurricane (Monday night) or early Tuesday when

Armed activists with a coalition of black self-defense groups marched in Austin, Texas over the weekend calling for an end to illegal immigration and demanding that President Biden close the borders. Some of the activists chanted 'close the borders' and 'take your a** home' as they marched toward the Texas Capitol in the 'Second Amendment Unity Walk' on Saturday. The march was led by The Elmer 'Geronimo' Pratt Pistol & Rifle Gun Club. Their demands also included reparations for descendants of enslaved people and a hate crime bill protecting Black Americans. The group faced opposition from a handful of Trump supporters and other protesters gathered at the Texas State Capitol

On reading about the Saturday arrest of pro-life activist Mark Houck, I thought the author at this alternative site had to be exaggerating. It struck me as beyond belief that two dozen or so armed FBI agents would swarm the house of a Catholic father of seven, rifles drawn, and arrest him in front of his weeping children for anything short of murder.
I have had to recalibrate my belief system. The “crime” fell quite a bit short of murder. (snip) As has become much too obvious, only one side of the abortion debate has been awarded federal protection.

I’ve repeatedly speculated that social justice has an odd effect on the brain and people who embrace it seem to suffer something akin to mental illness. At this time, we don’t know if the chicken came before the egg and those with mental illnesses are simply attracted to it naturally, but we have confirmed cases of people being normal, going through a university “education” and coming out the other side wholly indoctrinated. You can witness something like this on full display pretty regularly thanks to Twitter accounts like “Libs of TikTok,” but another video has emerged showing another instance of pure insanity. As you can see in the video

There’s no rest for the weary. Mayor Eric Adams left a political storm at home over everything from border migrants to rising crime to spend his Sunday helping what he calls New York’s “sixth borough,” hurricane-ravaged Puerto Rico. Adams traveled to the island late Saturday night for what he framed as a fact-finding mission to see how New York City can best help the island recover from Hurricane Fiona. “Puerto Rico is our sixth borough of New York. We’re tied at the hip,” Hizzoner said during in a video shot Sunday morning alongside San Juan Mayor Miguel Romero. “We’re going to… identify exactly what’s needed,” the mayor said.

The federal government runs out of funding on Friday and this week should set up a hot debate over billions more in Ukraine aide, a pipeline payoff deal, Afghan refugee assistance and money to help pay for sky-high heating bills for low-income families.
While a final funding bill is still being drawn up, the Senate is set to vote in a procedural move on a 'shell' of the bill on Tuesday, testing whether there is enough of an appetite for it to pass the 60-vote hurdle in the split Senate.
Both sides are under pressure to pass a temporary bill to fund the government at its current levels

Fox News host Tucker Carlson claimed Thursday evening the Biden administration was moving the United States toward a nuclear war with Russia due to its continued support of Ukraine in its defense against Russia.
“Okay, Putin is bad. Fine. Agreed. But Putin is making nuclear threats. Whatever the reason he’s making them, the fact he’s making them, and the Ukrainians, of course, are also making explicit nuclear threats, is enough for any responsible person to say, ‘Now we stop,’” Carlson said, referring to Putin’s remarks

It looks like the FBI is in for yet another scandal.
According to a new report from the LA Times, FBI agents busted into thousands of safety deposit boxes in California. After they rummaged through the private property of innocent people, it turns out they lied to a federal judge to get access to the boxes in the first place.
"The privacy invasion was vast when FBI agents drilled and pried their way into 1,400 safe-deposit boxes at the U.S. Private Vaults store in Beverly Hills. They rummaged through personal belongings of a jazz saxophone player, an interior designer, a retired doctor, a flooring contractor,

California is committing to a plan that will make it the first U.S. state to phase out gas-fueled furnaces and water heaters in homes, a move environmentalists are betting will provide a template for other states.
The Golden State will ban the sale of all new natural gas-fired space heaters and water-heating appliances by 2030, under a proposal unanimously approved by the California Air Resources Board on Thursday.
“We need to take every action we can to deliver on our commitments to protect public health from the adverse impacts of air pollution, and this strategy identifies how we can do just that,” board Chair Liane Randolph said.

Ron DeSantis is running for president. He has as much as admitted it, although he hasn’t done the obligatory visits to Iowa and New Hampshire. 2024 should be his time and it would be a waste if he didn’t run.
Governor DeSantis doesn’t have to announce yet. The contenders for the nominations are former president Trump or DeSantis. Everybody else is an also-ran. Trump, should he decide to run, can count on residual loyalty. DeSantis can appeal to voters as a younger, more vital, less controversial, and arguably more politically savvy alternative.
Trump commands attention, but that attention tends to draw focus to himself. DeSantis commands attention, but
