A man of accomplishment: Ron DeSantis'
pitch for president

Ron DeSantis is running for president. He has as much as admitted it, although he hasn’t done the obligatory visits to Iowa and New Hampshire. 2024 should be his time and it would be a waste if he didn’t run. Governor DeSantis doesn’t have to announce yet. The contenders for the nominations are former president Trump or DeSantis. Everybody else is an also-ran. Trump, should he decide to run, can count on residual loyalty. DeSantis can appeal to voters as a younger, more vital, less controversial, and arguably more politically savvy alternative. Trump commands attention, but that attention tends to draw focus to himself. DeSantis commands attention, but

No doubt about it, DeSantis is very impressive. In fact, I love him. He is everything the author states in the article and his praise is well deserved. The issue is that President Trump has a huge following and rightly so. He has proven his worth in terms of an America first agenda, getting things done, and his willingness to take on the left. I see the appeal of DeSantis. He does not have the baggage that the left foists on President Trump. He is young and articulate. He is an impressive candidate. The problem is that Americans are loyal to President Trump. We have watched him be attacked every single day since 2015. Democrats have been vicious and relentless. They go after him with the zeal of an Ahab who obsesses over the great white shark. It is unprecedented and never ending. The problem is that the base is loyal to President Trump for good reason and attempting to break that bond is a dangerous strategy. Many people want to right a wrong and that it is not a trivial matter. President Trump has earned our trust and loyalty. We know where he intends to take the country and we trust him. I believe it is foolish to pit these two titans against each other. Doing that will drive a wedge in the base. DeSantis appeals to the Republican establishment much more than Trump because they feel they can manage him. With President Trump, they know he understands how the game is played and is not enamored with their strategy or tactics. The Republican Rinos and never-Trumpers see DeSantis as their way to get rid of Trump and end his influence. It would behoove them to weigh the cost of creating conflict where none exists. However, much like democrats, all that motivates them is getting President Trump off the political stage. I just do not know why or how you do this without destroying any chance of unity that now exists in the party. It makes more sense to me to unite Trump and DeSantis and let them move the party forward to victory. Why splinter the base when uniting against a common enemy makes more sense.

DeSantis studied history at Yale University. He was captain of Yale's varsity baseball team. He was an outfielder. As a senior in 2001, he had the team's best batting average at .331. He attended Harvard Law School, graduating in 2005 with a Juris Doctor cum laude. In 2004, during his second year at Harvard Law, he was commissioned an officer in the U.S. Navy and assigned to the Navy Judge Advocate General's Corps (JAG). He completed Naval Justice School in 2005. He worked for the commander of Joint Task Force-Guantanamo, working directly with detainees at the Guantanamo Bay Joint Detention Facility. In 2007, he assigned to SEAL Team One and deployed to Iraq as the Legal Advisor to the SEAL Commander, Special Operations Task Force. He returned to the U.S. in April 2008; at which time he was reassigned to the Naval Region Southeast Legal Service. The U.S. Department of Justice appointed him to serve as a Special Assistant U.S. attorney at the U.S. Attorney's Office in the Middle District of Florida. He was a trial defense counsel until his honorable discharge from active duty in February 2010. He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal and the Iraq Campaign Medal. As of 2022, he is still serving in the U.S. Navy Reserve. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ron_DeSantis#Early_life_and_education

Once you see our resident professional Romney enthusiasts suggest Trump step aside to allow other desirable accomplished and skillled lead, you know the establishment sees DeSantis , as the did Tim Scott and Nikki Haley, as a means of returning to power. The Team Trump put in place is not created by the donor class or the political class. Bushies and Romneybots are on the other side of the door, and if DeSantis is their candidate, he needs to stay on the other side of the door as well.

DeSantis is accomplished, intelligent, and young. He can win the Presidency. Trump has become too old and too divisive. I doubt he can win the general election. Let's look forward and back DeSantis.

Floridians love Gov. DeSantis for keeping Florida free... we also know Pres. Trump is the excellent executive officer/ businessman who Made America Great and can do it again. Trump for 2024 (or 2022) and DeSantis for 2028 and 2032. That old Democrat mantra "Don't change horses in the middle of the stream" fits for once.

Trump is already slandering DeSantis for not properly worshiping Trump. Many posters here are stuck on stupid and believe Jared Kushner should be back in the Oval Office making Israel great again. You’re every bit the enemy to this nation as the leftists. To make matters worse, clowns are saying DeSantis is the “establishment” choice! Holy eff’n moly, it’s doubtful such people are even capable of balancing a checkbook. I’ll vote Trump if I have to, but DeSantis is far better. Period.

#4, very well said, as usual. Totally agree! DeSantis would be under enormous pressure from the establishment, plus Dem attacks. Not saying he couldn’t deal with it. He is definitely a leader. Just saying that Trump has already survived that initial fire, and is the stronger for it. We can’t afford to waste time sending DeSantis through the same - which would surely come! - when we’ve already been there, done that & have Trump’s known tested & true leadership ready to do what needs to be done. Trump needs to finish what he started. DeSantis will be perfect for the following eight years. Btw, re, #5 - we know you knew the difference. : ) We all make posting mistakes from time to time, & no way to edit once you hit that submit button! Only nitpickers find fault under those circumstances!

Let's see what the future brings. The question everyone needs to ask is "If my favorite doesn't win...what will I do?" Sit home to allow those "leftists" to teach America a lesson? Sure, that's the "real conservative" way.

I can only think of a few Republicans I would vote for for President. Most Republicans I'm not sure about yet -- can they really be trusted or are they just another Romney, Bush or Ryan. I won't vote for another Bush type. Trump is by far a largest following if he chooses to run. I'll be watching DeSantis to see where his financial support, etc. comes from -- who exactly is backing him. We already know the Uniparty is against Trump and I want the Uniparty/Rinos defeated soundly. MAGA Trump 2024

A new poll from YouGov provides further evidence for one of the most important narratives to emerge from the midterms: Florida governor Ron DeSantis is the frontrunner to top the GOP’s ticket in 2024. According to the survey of 413 Republicans and Republican-leaning independents, 42 percent want DeSantis to be the party’s nominee two years from now, while 35 percent would prefer former president Donald Trump. It was conducted in the immediate aftermath of Tuesday’s disappointing returns for the GOP. Support for a potential Donald Trump 2024 presidential bid has remained relatively steady over the last year and a half, data from a Morning Consult survey found. While the survey asserts that Trump’s support has “dipped” in recent months, it is actually exactly the same as the survey taken in May 2021, which showed 48 percent of potential GOP voters supporting him. It is true, however, that he reached a high of 57 percent in August 2022, only to dip back down to 48 percent in November.Florida Gov. The obvious big winner for the Republicans in last Tuesday's midterm election is Florida's governor, Ron DeSantis. Not only did he hold on to his current job, but the overwhelming margin of his victory and the effectiveness of his statewide coattails have led him to eclipse Donald Trump as the party's true figurehead. I actually suspect that this was the plan all along — that Mr. Trump is really in no way eager to remain the media's punching bag. Now that DeSantis has proven his popularity, the transition to a more politically adept and comparable problem-solver will continue.
