The Jan. 6 committee has reached an agreement with Ginni Thomas to be interviewed in the coming weeks, a source close to the House panel told NBC News on Wednesday.
Emails, records and reporting indicate that Thomas, a conservative activist and the wife of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, was involved in some aspects of a scheme involving “fake electors” after the 2020 election and was also in touch with Trump lawyer John Eastman about his strategies to overturn the election results. CNN first reported the planned meeting with Thomas.
Thomas first came under scrutiny for messages to former President Donald Trump’s chief of staff Mark Meadows and state lawmakers

Washington — A federal appeals court on Wednesday granted a request from the Justice Department to allow its investigators to regain access to the roughly 100 documents bearing classification markings that were seized by the FBI during its search at former President Donald Trump's Florida residence.
A three-judge panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit agreed to put on hold a lower court's order that kept the subset of sensitive records off-limits for the Justice Department to use for investigative purposes, pending the review of the materials by an independent arbiter known as a special master.
In its 29-page opinion, the panel said it agreed

On Tuesday’s broadcast of “CBS Primetime,” CBS News Senior White House and Political Correspondent Ed O’Keefe said that President Joe Biden “has been allergic to the issue” of immigration and that the only thing he’s done is put out an immigration bill on his first day “to appease a certain segment of the electorate,” and Biden has taken “no action” to address shifting migration patterns.
O’Keefe stated, “Well, these specific flights that have been chartered by Republican governors or the donors who love them, there hasn’t been much of a response. … If anything, what it is is, the White House says, well, if Republicans are really serious

Martha’s Vineyard said it was stressed when about 50 migrants were flown to the exclusive island enclave this month.
In Brooks County, Texas, Sheriff Urbino “Benny” Martinez had to laugh.
His county has already seen that many migrants this year, just counting dead bodies. Some 78 migrants, all victims of the treacherous journey, have been collected from ranchlands in the county. That adds to the 119 bodies last year. Each costs money to gather, handle and autopsy. The sheriff said the county spends hundreds of thousands of dollars to do that work.

Eighteen-year-old Cayler Ellingson was hit and killed by a man driving a car in McHenry, North Dakota.
Now, that’s a horrible story, but the initial facts coming out on the case make it even more troubling: It wasn’t an accident. Ellingson had been out at a street dance when he called his mother to rescue him, because he said he was being chased by 41-year-old Shannon Brandt. But by the time she reached him, Cayler was dead. What Brandt allegedly admitted about the killing was chilling. “He was the one who called 911 to report the crash,” said North Dakota Highway Patrol Capt. Bryan Niewind.
Court papers show Brandt called 911

Ron DeSantis is running for president.
No, he hasn’t announced his candidacy or started flying off to Iowa or New Hampshire. But he is refining his pitch to voters, and I have to say he makes a strong case.
I admit that I am biased. I think Ron DeSantis is the smartest and most compelling Republican politician since Ronald Reagan. This is not a slam on former president Trump. Love him or hate him, Trump took a moribund Republican Party and created an entirely new political coalition that will endure long after he exits the stage. Trump deserves credit for a Republican rebirth and for exposing the fundamental corruption

Everyone’s talking about the dire southern border situation again. It’s about danged time.
Even before the newly-inaugurated Joe Biden began carrying through with his open borders promises in January 2021, a border crisis of staggering proportions was rapidly developing along the southern border of the United States expressly due to what Biden said throughout his campaign that he would do if elected. “I would, in fact, make sure that there is — we immediately surge to the border. All those people who are seeking asylum, they deserve to be heard,” Biden infamously proclaimed

Most days, Stacey Abrams must regret not jumping at the chance to be placed on President Biden’s cabinet or in the office currently occupied by Vice President Kamala Harris. Abrams spent too much time reading the glowing press about her role in turning Georgia blue in 2020. It made her delusional enough to take a second crack at the Governor’s Mansion. However, according to a new poll from The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, she could lose so badly in 2022 that not even screeching “Voter suppression!” will excuse her loss. Incumbent governor Brian Kemp is polling at 50%, ahead of Abrams at 42%. Kemp also enjoys a 54% approval rating in the state.

An outspoken critic of so-called “woke capitalism” is publicly urging corporate giants Apple and Disney to keep politics out of their businesses.
Vivek Ramaswamy, the founder of investment firm Strive Asset Management, demanded that Apple and Disney prioritize profits while avoiding political discourse that could tarnish their brands. Strive has acquired stakes in each company since launching earlier this year with a mandate to challenge the corporate emphasis on environmental, social and governance standards, otherwise known as “ESG.”
Ramaswamy, who authored a best-selling book titled “Woke, Inc.” argued that Disney’s decision to wade into political debates, such as the kerfuffle over Florida’s “Don’t Say Gay” law, risked financial harm to shareholders

The FBI is sidelining investigations into child sexual abuse in order to pursue January 6 probes and is inflating the number of “domestic extremism” cases across the country, Republicans on the House Judiciary Committee claimed in a letter Monday, citing whistleblowers.
The committee’s letter was spearheaded by ranking member Jim Jordan, and was addressed to FBI Director Christopher A. Wray. It comes on the heels of another committee letter that cited whistleblowers claiming the FBI was “pressuring agents” to label cases as “domestic violent extremism” even when they didn’t meet the criteria for the definition.
One whistleblower cited in the letter was “told

U.S. doctors should regularly screen all adults under 65 for anxiety, an influential health guidelines group proposed Tuesday.
It's the first time the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force has recommended anxiety screening in primary care for adults without symptoms. The proposal is open for public comment until Oct. 17, but the group usually affirms its draft guidance. The recommendations are based on a review that began before the Covid-19 pandemic, evaluating studies showing potential benefits and risks from screening. Given reports of a surge in mental health problems linked with pandemic isolation and stress, the guidance is "very timely," said Lori Pbert, a task force member and co-author.

It’s been pretty obvious for months now that California Gov. Gavin Newsom has his eye on the White House, and though a new report doesn’t quote straight from the horse’s mouth regarding his intentions, it does shed more light on his mindset regarding 2024. According two well-connected California Democratic insiders, Newsom absolutely plans to throw his hat into the ring in the event President Joe Biden decides not to run again:
California Governor Gavin Newsom is “undeniably, unequivocally” planning to run for president in 2024 if President Biden chooses not to seek a second term, two individuals with knowledge
