Jackson, Miss.—When John Tierre launched his restaurant in Jackson’s neglected Farish Street Historic District, he was drawn by the neighborhood’s past as an economically independent cultural hub for Black Mississippians, and the prospect of helping usher in an era of renewed prosperity. This week he sat on the empty, sun-drenched patio of Johnny T’s Bistro and Blues and lamented all the business he has lost as tainted water flows through his pipes—just like other users in the majority Black city of 150,000, if they were lucky enough to have any pressure at all.(Snip)Today the city is more than 80% black, and 25% of its residents

OP says it better than I can. Unfortunately, most of our big, urban cities are run the same way and by the same demographic.

Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba is probably awaiting a phone call from Kamala "Heels Up" Harris with her saying it's DJT fault!

Why did the people not vote someone in office who would fix this problem? You get what you vote for.

They just don’t get it. You can’t take over a place, chase everyone away because their city (too!) has been blackified and then cry foul when a natural disaster messes up your plan.
Even with all that “poverty” their vanity sends them to have their hair dyed and tormented and probably their (acrylic) nails sparkled and painted.
Sorry, Things are tough all over and white citizens have to cope. No free stuff for them.

In fairness, the hard-working business owners in Jackson likely saw right through the clown elected mayor, but there, as in most places, they are far outnumbered by the credulous, free-stuff masses.

Jackson, Ms. , like Flint, Mi is suffering from self inflicted problems. Years of Democrat rule and minority pandering, apathy, and handouts have led to dysfunctional government and failing infrastructure. Yet they blame everyone except themselves for the problems they created.

Black people have been in charge of Jackson for decades, but the results mimic other Black-run cities, countries in Africa and the 200 year old independent Haiti. Is there something else going on or are white people totally to blame? There is a root cause which cannot be discussed. Any guesses what that might be?

Maybe when you vote, look to see if the candidate is competent for the job and not just the right skin color. Makes a BIG difference.

How many years have the Democrats run that city? Why haven't they fixed the water issue? Maybe the governor knows how incompetent the city management is and knows any money the state gives will not be used to handle this problem. Time for the citizens to take the mayor to task.

Look at Africa for example. Trillions of dollars have been dumped into every country there. The people"s lives there haven't gotten any better or easier, but the leaders have enriched themselves and their cronies.

I'm a collector of state capitals, so on a road trip in the great state of Mississippi a coupla years back, I overnighted in Jackson at a good downtown hotel. That's when I found out the mayor's name was Lumumba. Even then there was a water problem. Downtown was devoid of retail and it was hard to find a place to eat and drink for the evening, but the one place the hotel directed me was good. I quickly noticed that I was a minority, a few of the majority friendly, but bartender certainly not. It was unsettling, but I am glad for the sociological expedidtion. Eufora Welty's house was worth it.

It's a Demon-Rat run city. They just need to do what they always do and raise taxes on the working-class to raise the money to fix the problems.
Oh wait, there isn't much of a "working-class" left to tax. Just a lot of people on welfare or barely getting by. And the ruling elites have nobody but themselves to blame after driving out the majority of non-black working-class folks and businesses. I guess they thought they would have a "paradise" without all those "red-neck white racists". But they just didn't really think that through now, did they...

Elect a race obsessed hateful loon, and you WILL get administrative incompetence and an uncaring attitude towards the basics of making a city function normally.
Race over competence.....you get screwed.
And who's to blame? Idiot voters choosing a hater.

Mayor. Start being mayor and do your job or resign. Like your counterpart in NO during Katrina, you cannot just sit there and decry that someone better do something.

Does anyone else notice how the Media uses 'Black' with a Capital 'B' when discussing some issue where they are pushing the 'Whitey Bad' narrative, but they NEVER use 'Black', or even 'black' when discussing or reporting on a violent crime committed by a Black person?
Hmmmm...... Blatant double standard, anyone?
Regarding the Jackson MS water system....
I live on the Mississippi gulf coast, near Waveland and Bay Saint Louis. We were 'ground Zero' for hurricane Katrina in 2005 which really tore things up, but the area is recovering pretty well. (And THANKS to all the Taxpayers whose Cash was used to rebuild bridges, roads, fire stations, and provide the rebuild grants that many people used to rebuild or replace their Homes, and also THANKS to all the Volunteers (many Church-sponsored) who really helped!)
Jackson (J'Afrika) has had a bad reputation for many years..... just don't go there to begin with, but if you have to go, in certain areas, particularly at night, lock your doors, slow down but don't stop a stop signs or even red lights, go armed if you can. A lot of bad areas with a high percentage of Thugs.
Our local City government made an attempt to take over the local Water & Sewer District. We happen to have, as the district director, a man who retired as head of the drinking water division within the US EPA.
He explained the reason for having a separate water & sewer organization. Water pipes, water plants, and sewer plants do not last forever. They periodically need serious rework or replacement; even the water pipes need to be replaced about every 50 years. However, municipal governments NEVER want to spend the money to replace pipes that have not yet failed (even if the whole system is ready to fall apart). He explained that all across the country, pretty much EVERY city is running their water pipes and plants well past their useful life.
In our small city, the water & sewer district is replacing the pipes BEFORE they fail, so as to provide RELIABLE water service for the NEXT 50 years. In contrast, the local City government wanted to take the money and spend it on things that would 'buy votes' with more visible projects, neglecting the vital but not visible water system.
What is happening in Jackson is a leading indicator of what may well happen in many cities across the country.

They chased off nearly all of the White residents, favoring People of Color who have no money except what the government gives them, and thanks to Republican Gov. Tate Reeves, the Confederate battle flag emblem no longer adorns the state flag. So now everything should be a paradise akin to Wakanda, except that the city is nearing collapse because no one knows or cares how to run anything, let alone be able to pay for anything. Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba points to many years of deferred maintenance in the city's water system, which should come as no surprise to anyone when the primary criterion for employment with the city is having very dark skin.
