Conventional Wisdom is an Oxymoron

Original Article

Things that have become conventional wisdom are so often proven dead wrong that we are wise to put “no” in front of anything that is bruited endlessly by the media and advanced by Democratic leaders. There are so many things in which we naysayers have been right and the conventional wisdom proven wrong that it’s impossible for me to keep tabs. Don Surber does a great job. Here are a handful from his latest blog: Shutting down the country was a major mistake which people like New York Governor Kathy Hochul are being forced to admit.

#3, you’re not missing much. I’m a paid subscriber and these days there are rarely more than about 5-10 replies and sometimes less. As usual, Clarice hits all of the issues and nails them. I’m thinking about sending this to my millennial daughter who is all into the “organic” scam, though she is otherwise very conservative.

It should be called "government conventional wisdom". Just a sea of disappointments and errors. Rather than governments immediately making up stuff and requiring 100% adherence whatever happened to freedom and trial and error. I guess that's what you get when we have a doofus in the WH.

Here is a tricky one. If Biden is using an Executive Order to eliminate student loan debt, can't the NEXT President reverse the order and reinstate the debt ( especially a lame duck President in his first day in office who cannot run again ). Otherwise, what gives Biden the authority to eliminate debt to the govt ?

One of the most deeply held nuggets of common wisdom is that people pay taxes to fund the government. The COVID relief bills that sent trillions of dollars to people to offset their loss of income when their businesses were shutdown with no offsetting tax increase or cost cutting confirmed this basic fact. The Federal Government has the power through the Federal Reserve bank to create as much currency as it needs to pay its obligations and can never go insolvent. They create currency in a computer owned by their private bank (Federal Reserve) and deposit it in the Treasury banks for the rest of state, local, and private currency consumers to spend and save on goods and services in the real economy. The Fed's deficit is a surplus to the rest of us. When we spend less that we earn we can save the surplus in government accounts called Treasury bonds and they'll pay us interest income which is also nice. Federal taxation is only needed to drain excess currency from the private economy and to force everyone to get income in the government's currency (dollars) so that they can pay their federal taxes. This is a secret that they political class doesn't want voters to know. They have over the decades created arbitrary constraints of "pay-as-you-go" taxation schemes and a "debt ceilings" to give them the power to sell benefits to their preferred donors. They also avoid the really hard consensus decisions about determining what are the broader needs of our society that benefit everyone like improved infrastructure, health care, education, and most economical energy sources. Biden is just playing one group against the other to get votes and everyone knows it. If you understand how the real economy works, it doesn't have to be this divisive.

President Biden’s plan to forgive student debt is clear: most students will get a $10,000 debt reduction, while lower-income students will be eligible to double the amount (an element that went unmentioned inmost reports). Biden’s August giveaway adds half a trillion dollars to the federal government’s debt deficit by some estimates. It’s easy to be generous with other people’s money. Conservatives raise the issues of cost, value, inflation and economic impact. Liberals were happy with the move but disappointed by the amount forgiven.

The raid on Mar-A-Lago was a pretextual search using the National Archive rules and mischaracterize classified document laws to justify an unlawful search warrant. This raid is only a part of an ongoing criminal conspiracy (RICO) or silent coup by the Deep State to take down Trump, first before his election in 2016, to prevent his reelection in 2020, and now to torpedo his possible re-election in 2024. Trump is a direct threat to the coup's survival. The Deep State is protected by the DOJ and FBI that have gone full Stasi. I have written and served hundreds of search warrants in my career as a police detective.

Joe Biden always knew that the forgiveness of $10,000 per borrower in student loan debt would be politically controversial. On the one hand, he’d receive the gratitude — and votes — of millions of younger voters for taking $10K in debt off their balance sheets. But on the other hand, there are those millions of voters who might resent these younger voters dodging their responsibility — a responsibility they willingly took on — all because they’re an important voting bloc for the Democratic Party.

The recent clandestine FBI raid on the home of President Donald Trump leaves little doubt that America indeed is in the midst of a second civil war. The war thus far is a non-shooting war with multiple "fronts" of attack waged and supported by both domestic and foreign enemies. If they are successful, they will have effectively nullified America's constitutional republic and negated most, if not all, of Americans' cherished constitutional rights and freedoms. This civil war is being waged successfully against the American republic by multiple organizations and numerous powerful, very wealthy people

When I was an undergraduate in the late 1960s, I underwent a kind of transformative experience during a classroom debate with another student that I believed I was clearly winning when the philosophy professor corrected me. He reminded me that when engaged in a philosophical debate, as opposed to the 9th grade Debating Challenge, the point is not simply to vanquish one’s opponent but to find the truth. In order to do the former one may use any means fair or foul to destroy the opponent. For the latter one must do the exact opposite and represent one’s opponent’s position in the strongest terms possible.

No doubt still sulking over the Roe v. Wade reversal — the opening sentence of their recent op-ed published in The New York Times is, “When liberals lose at the Supreme Court — as they increasingly have over the past half-century” — two Ivy League professors laid out their claims for an America without Constitutional limitations. They suggest, “the way to seek real freedom will be to use procedures consistent with popular rule.” Of course, the piece is polished sewage: tyranny of the majority is a very real, and very dangerous threat to the individual, (perhaps they should go read Federalist 10, but they likely wouldn’t understand that either).

Elites have always been ambiguous about the muscular classes who replace their tires, paint their homes, and cook their food. And the masses who tend to them likewise have been ambivalent about those who hire them: appreciative of the work and pay, but also either a bit envious of those with seemingly unlimited resources or turned off by perceived superciliousness arising from their status and affluence. Yet the divide has grown far wider in the 21st century. Globalization fueled the separation in a number of ways. One, outsourcing and offshoring eroded the rust-belt interior, while enriching the two coasts. The former lost good-paying jobs, while the latter found new markets
