Has Wokism Scared Black Students Away

According to an article in the Chronicle of Higher Education, Black student enrollment in American colleges and universities has declined dramatically in the past ten years, 24 percent in fact, from 2.5 million students in 2010 to 1.9 million in 2020. Prior to that ten-year period, argues Chronicle reporter Oyin Adedoyin, “The story of Black college students in the USA was a narrative of success.” Judging only by numbers, Adedoyin is right. Black population on campus grew nine-fold from 1966 to 2010. The decline since 2010 puzzles administrators given the thousands of DEI officers they have hired and the myriad enticements they have offered to Black students.

If you grow up in a culture that believes getting a good education by studying and discipline is acting "white", and pointless since "The Man" is holding you down, and now, it is open season on whites, why go to college when you can just take want with no repercussions and the guburmunt will hand you more freebies anyhow?

Many black students who are admitted to college based on skin color despite subpar performance in high school find they are in over their heads academically in college, which in turn contributes to a higher college dropout rate. This may be a reason colleges are viewed as hostile environments for blacks.

Some observations, if I may. First, the value of a college education overall has declined in direct proportion to the increase in enrollment, since the Bell Curve of intellectual capacity among all people clearly shows that there are simply not enough people with sufficient intellectual capacity to participate in a traditional undergraduate course of study in any field. However, college administrators have simply dumbed down the curriculum to allow participation by more and more students because more students mean more tuition and higher salaries for the increasing number of administrators and teachers employed. Since black IQ is a standard deviation (at least) below that of white IQ, there are fewer qualified blacks, but "equal opportunity" requires that the curriculum be dumbed down even more to accommodate black enrollment. This results in blacks getting an even more inferior education, making them less qualified to enter the business or professional field in which they were ostensibly (and falsely) trained. This guarantees that they will fail, but rather than face reality, they have been allowed--encouraged-- to blame whitey. Since the "blame whitey" grift has now become a field of endeavor all to itself and offers opportunities for financial enrichment, it presents a viable alternative to actually getting an education. Why bother faking a college degree when you can go right into a lucrative field of endeavor without one? (Of course, I might add that drug dealing has also presented another financially viable career path, although that would be racist, wouldn't it?)

Why bother? They can shop for free at any store they choose. Anything and everything they will need in life is given to them or subsidized for them. If they do go to college, it won't be easy because they are not academically ready because of their sub par schools. Their Uncle Sugar was Lyndon B. Johnson. He fixed everything for them.

There are tons of free money grants and scholarships and programs for anyone not-white. There is no excuse for any not-white person to skip college because of cost. I don't know why enrollment is down, I can only guess it is the anti-education, "education is white racist oppression" nonsense that's been spewed for about the same ten years. Logic, intelligence, working hard, showing up at school, behaving like a human being is all now "acting white". Build more prisons. Definitely going to need them.

If high schools were not so oriented towards college enrollment and if they returned to 1950's offerings like shop to prepare average kids for real world employment then these dropping college numbers would be seen as positive. But a largely fraudulent high-school diploma which simply lets these average kids mistakenly believe they can succeed in college sets up a downward spiral of failure and overwhelming debt and fuels worthless college departments and fields of study like 'diversity and Blackness'.

You say that like it's a bad thing. They should read Booker T Washington's "Up From Slavery". In it he encourages blacks to get a skill--required his students to have real skills. THAT expertise will do more for your own personal success, as well as race relations, than any educational degree. That will empower you, not the Jackson/Sharpton cartel.

Student success begins in the home. Students that are trained how to behave and prepare themselves for their future come from homes with successful parents that value education. Students that are born illegitimately (as 70% of a certain demographic are) learn the same behaviors that made their "parent" a social/economic failure. Ask any teacher. Student success has little to do with the school, the teachers, or the education system, and everything to do with the families from which they come.

Why the surprise? Some people just aren't cut out for college and special admissions crutches and free money will not change that. The majority of blacks who enter college as freshmen do not survive to graduation in spite of the leg up. My daughters used to complain frequently that the black students did nothing but party day and night and the noise annoyed serious students to the point that they had to find someplace else to study.

First, I would direct Professor Cashill to the edict issued in 1973 by the Modern Language Association. (The MLA is to English teaching as the American Medical Association is to physicians) The MLA said that no one form of English is superior to any other form of English. And that opened the door to ebonics. Second, at my public university, black students were admitted`under open enrollment rules. And each black student was declared a 'scholar' and given a full scholarship without offsets for Pell grants and supplemental grants. How did the black students respond to that generous treatment of them? They demanded a monthly allowance for personal expenses.

Somehow, I just can't get the give a damn in me to care. I think 80% of people going to college shouldn't be going to college. This was pointed out to me more than forty-five years ago by several encounters with people who received college degrees and were still unemployed or under employed two years after graduation. Everything was about experience, but there was no way to gain experience without getting a job to gain experience. The classic catch twenty-two.

Can't even come close to speaking or writing intelligible English, and she's hired as a "journalist"? Clearly she has never been in a grammar class or a writing class, or if so, was given a pass on her color rather than being required to learn grammar and how to construct an intelligible, complete sentence. And words that seem to have no apparent meaning in the sentence, and bizarre use of possessives. What could a "grasp's diploma" possibly be? Why would they bother to "get a college education" if this is the result? She should flunk HS English, let alone any college level journalism class. And all of this incompetence ignores the issue of her extreme, pervasive, overriding racism and expectations to be catered to endlessly.

Don't know the answer. Here's a hint. Obama was president during the most damaging years. He destroyed schools so they could not discipline unruly students. He basically destroyed the classrooms in minority cities. Graduation rates in those cities dropped dramatically. Schools in those cities became war zones. And Obama and democrats eliminated many school voucher programs, school choice and charter schools. All that helped minority children. Look at violent crimes in democratic run cities. 90% are committed by young blacks. You think they are worried about school, about an education. And now the blame you. Get the picture yet.

If everything in this country is so racist it is a wonder that there is so much immigration to the US from Africa and the West Indies. Doesn't seem to be very much going in the opposite direction. Strange that they would want to come live in such a racist hellhole. Why would BIPOCs want to move from a majority BIPOC country to live in a majority white country that is supposedly ''systemically racist'' and based of white supremacy?

There is a documentary about immature male elephants which shows what the absence of an older male authority figure means for the surrounding community when these "teenage" elephants run wild. They have had no bounds and no discipline so they terrorize the community at will. Yes, I'm implying there is a lack of male authority figures in homes of a certain segment of our population. I was a democrat until LBJ started his "cradle to grave" welfare nonsense and rules were put in place that required male authority figures to abandon families so the female and children could obtain welfare payments. The Law of Unintended Consequences has proven once again that when the public trough is filled with largess there will be takers and takers and takers. It is a truism that when one has time off they want more time off so it naturally follows that when tax dollars flow to those who want more time off work becomes a very dirty word.
