Topeka, Kan. — Kansas voters on Tuesday protected the right to get an abortion in their state, rejecting a measure that would have allowed their Republican-controlled Legislature to tighten abortion restrictions or ban it outright.
The referendum in the conservative state was the first test of U.S. voter sentiment about abortion rights since the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade in June. It was a major victory for abortion rights advocates following weeks in which many states in the South and Midwest largely banned abortion.
Voters rejected a proposed amendment to the Kansas Constitution that would have added language stating that it does not grant the right

No numbers, and the polls only closed a few hours ago. I question the accuracy of this....unless the fix was in and they had already rigged it.

They retain the right to murder defenseless babies. There will be a special reward for them on judgement day. That is the only remaining justice and I can only hope and pray that it will happen since consequences no longer exist on earth. To paraphrase demon N. Pelosi, "we have to wait for the end to find out what happens".

They intentionally put this vote in a primary, which typically has about 20% turnout, so they could pump hard on their fanatic abortion base in eastern KS. My wife worked the polls today, said many came in and said, "I'm only voting on one thing"....left the rest of the ballot blank.

I'm not surprised. I've said before most people believe in choice for a limited time. I wish every state could vote.

There is no right to an abortion, an education, health care, a free lunch, etc. The right of American citizens are found in the Bill or Rights in The Constitution. Am surprised that Kansas is changing.

This is what the Supremes wanted in their recent ruling. Letting the states take care of their own abortion laws???
So, what is the doddering fool in the WH being so gleeful about?

Kansas has a long tradition of abortion. I grew up in Oklahoma, and I knew girls who traveled to Kansas to get an abortion before Roe vs. Wade—when it was still state by state and illegal in Oklahoma. Therefore, I wouldn’t make too much of this vote.

While the result of the vote is disappointing to many, this is what the Supreme Court intended with their decision. Let the states decide themselves.

The legislature can still vote to restrict abortion, right?

I have no problem with this. The gist of the SCOTUS ruling is that the matter should be decided on a state-by-state basis, and not by some half-witted ruling by the SCOTUS.

I am of the opinion that abortion is permissible if the mothers life is in danger or the child isn't viable. I would vote against any proposal, law, amendment, regulation that didn't, at a minimum, make exceptions for the life of the mother the viability of the child or rape.
I think that you will find that the vast majority of Americans are in favor of limiting abortions, not outright banning the practice or allowing it up to birth.

The Associated Press is wrong again. This has nothing to do with abortion rights all over the country, it has to do with Kansas wanting to become the Fetus murdering capitol of the nation.

Re #17, in our county, Dominion machines are not used. My wife and I have been poll workers and know the machines.
The tabulator is the DS200 scanning system, made by ES&S, Election Systems & Software. Two ways to create a paper ballot to be scanned. One is to enter your choices on a touchscreen system and it will print out a paper ballot for you to check for correctness and then the voter inserts it into the DS200 scanner, a separate machine, which retains the paper ballots for any recount or audit.
The second is to request a paper ballot, color in the ovals with a pen to record your vote, and then you insert your paper ballot into the DS200 scanner.
I'm not saying that there is no way to scam it, certainly what is done inside the scanner, and with the output data from the scanners is beyond the purview of the individual polling place workers. But the basic voting process seems reasonable, and I like the paper ballot existing for a recount.
But, insiders can always cheat the system. ALWAYS. I'm not saying that is what happened. I don't know.
