The United States is preparing a new $1bn security assistance package for Ukraine, which will include munitions for long-range weapons and armoured medical transport vehicles, according the Reuters news agency.
The package would be one of the largest so far and is expected to be announced as early as Monday, three sources briefed on the matter told Reuters.
The US has given about $8.8bn in aid to Ukraine since Russia’s invasion on February 24. The officials, speaking to Reuters on the condition of anonymity, said that President Joe Biden had not yet signed the next weapons package, and cautioned that weapons packages can change in value and content before they are signed.

Former Trump administration Attorney General Bill Barr said Friday on CBS News’ streaming network that the Department of Justice was “taking a hard look” at high-ranking Trump allies and the former president himself.
CBS News correspondent Catherine Herridge asked, “On January 6, do the new grand jury subpoenas suggest that the Justice Department is squarely focused on former President Trump? Barr said, “I think it definitely is a significant event. It changes my view of what’s been going on. From my standpoint, it looked to me like the department was really focusing on the lower-level people.

U.S. conspiracy theorist Alex Jones must pay the parents of a 6-year-old boy killed in the 2012 Sandy Hook massacre $45.2 million in punitive damages - on top of $4.1 million in compensatory damages already awarded - for falsely claiming the shooting was a hoax, a Texas jury decided on Friday.
Neil Heslin and Scarlett Lewis, separated parents of slain 6-year-old Jesse Lewis, testified that followers of Jones harassed them and sent them death threats for years in the false belief that they were lying about their son's death in the Dec. 14, 2012, shooting that killed 20 children and six staff at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut.

Republicans lead Democrats on the generic congressional ballot by three points, two points lower than the previous week and seven points lower than the week before that, a Rasmussen Reports poll released Friday showed.
While the Republicans look to retake control of Congress in the 2022 midterm elections — which are only 95 days away — after being in the minority for roughly four years, the most recent Rasmussen Reports survey showed that 46 percent of likely U.S. voters would elect a Republican, compared to the 43 percent who said they would vote for a Democrat.
Thus the Republicans only have a three-point lead, which is two points less

Gov. Ron Desantis recently made the boss move of suspending a State Attorney who signed a pledge to not enforce Florida’s abortion and childhood transgender transition laws. Now, Andrew Warren is pledging to defy DeSantis, saying he will continue to do his job.
That happened on CBS News, with Warren accusing his state’s abortion law of being “unconstitutional” while slamming DeSantis. On Thursday, I did a write-up on Warren’s initial reaction, predicting that he’d be on CNN soon. Well, I guess I was off a little bit, but the point remains the same. These liberal outlets love to try to paint DeSantis as some kind of fascist

A new Morning Consult Poll shows voters beginning to regain some trust in Democrats on some issues. On topics such as health care, voting rights, COVID-19, energy, and guns Democrats have increased their lead on the question of “Who do you trust” on a particular issue.
According to the poll, “Congressional Democrats have an average advantage of 6 percentage points (45% to 39%) over congressional Republicans when voters are asked who they trust to handle a range of 14 issues. That edge has steadily increased since early April, when the two parties were essentially tied on the question.”
In truth, all of those issues above are overwhelmed

Tokyo - U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said Friday that China will not isolate Taiwan by preventing U.S. officials from traveling there.
She made the remarks in Tokyo on the final leg of an Asia tour highlighted by a visit to Taiwan that infuriated China.
The Chinese have tried to isolate Taiwan, Pelosi said, including most recently by preventing it from joining the World Health Organization.
“They may try to keep Taiwan from visiting or participating in other places, but they will not isolate Taiwan by preventing us to travel there,” she said.

During Thursday night’s broadcast of CNN Tonight, news broke that Senator Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ) went public with her support for the so-called “Inflation Reduction Act.” Host Laura Coates was elated to announce the news to her viewers when she returned from a commercial break. Turning to her panelists, each of whom praised the legislation with the exception of Republican CNN political analyst Scott Jennings who warned his fellow panelists that this will come back to bite them.
After Coates turned to Jennings for his reaction, he let the leftists on the CNN set have it: “First of all, no games will change until 2026 because the prescription drug provisions don't kick in

On Thursday’s broadcast of CNN’s “The Lead,” Sen. Chris Coons (D-DE) reacted to concerns that the corporate minimum tax in the reconciliation bill could harm manufacturing by stating that supporting the tax “is something our caucus has come together behind.” And that while the possible impact on competitiveness should be looked at, spending the CHIPS bill will help manufacturing.
Coons began by saying, “The most important thing is that we get this bill passed.” Host Jake Tapper asked, “Sen. Toomey was on the show Sunday and he said the problem with requiring a minimum tax for corporations is that it affects the corporations’ ability to invest that money in future manufacturing

Rep. Mayra Flores is getting right to work on following through on campaign promises. One of the main focuses of her campaign was border security. The first bill she co-introduced in Congress is one on border security.
It’s a bipartisan bill. That’s important during this time of record-breaking illegal immigration and drug trafficking. A press release notes that Flores, along with Republican Congressman Dave Joyce (OH-14), Democrats Susie Lee (NV-03), and Chris Pappas (NH-01), introduced the Advanced Border Coordination Act. Companion legislation was introduced in the Senate by Senator Cortez Masto (D-NV) earlier this year. The bill focuses on strengthening border security by improving law enforcement communication and coordination

Representative Liz Cheney (R-WY) said Thursday on CNN’s “Anderson Cooper 360 ” that the United States could not be considered a nation of laws if former President Donald Trump was not prosecuted.
CNN chief national affairs analyst Kasie Hunt said, “Some have expressed concern that prosecuting former President Trump which turned him into a martyr and potentially add to his political strength for the base that follows him pretty rabidly. Do you share that concern? Do you have any concern that the prosecution would strengthen Donald Trump’s political hand?” Cheney said, “I don’t think that it is appropriate to think about it that way because the question for us is,

Remember when Virginia Democratic gubernatorial candidate Terry McAuliffe tanked his campaign when he argued that parents should not have a say in what is taught to their children in K-12 classrooms? Well, it appears Robert Francis “Beto” O’Rourke, who is running for Texas governor, made the same blunder. His chances of winning were slim before. But now, it appears he will have more in common with McAuliffe than the belief that kids should belong to the state, not their parents.
On Wednesday, footage of O’Rourke, an Irishman who pretends to be Hispanic to get votes, surfaced on social media in which he lashed out at those who oppose ideas inspired
