Idaho near-total abortion ban challenged
by Justice Department

Original Article

The Department of Justice filed a lawsuit on Tuesday challenging Idaho's near-total ban on abortion, arguing that it would criminalize doctors for performing abortions during medical emergencies. Idaho's law is set to take effect on Aug. 25 after the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade in June, returning the issue of abortion to the states. The law bans all abortions except for cases of incest or rape that are reported to law enforcement, or when a physician determines "in his good faith medical judgment and based on the facts known to the physician at the time, that the abortion was necessary to prevent the death of the pregnant woman."

The judge needs to inform the DOJ does not have standing. No damages would be done to them as they do not represent anyone. The DOJ are employees only.

I thought with Dobbs, the SCOTUS turned abortion over to the States (i.e. the People and their direct representatives) lock, stock and barrel. It is now outside the enumerated powers of the US Government. There CAN be no Federal law on abortion, so there is no question of violating it.

Question: Why would the US Justice department have any standing on the matter? The doctors are licensed by the State, the Law if only for the State's residence. We need to go back to our original motto...Mind Your own Business

I blame the Supreme Joke for allowing the Congress, under the Commerce Clause, do anything it wants. The Feds have no business in State business and healthcare is state, not federal, business. This should be thrown out for no standing. But honestly, the Courts have to stop saying the Feds can do anything they want. Of note, its an irony that the Feds wanted to prosecute doctors for refusing to do an abortion. Now the Feds want to make if a federal mandate and a crime, if the doctors refuses to do an abortion (under state law) when the hospital (Administrators making medical decisions) says its needed, into a federal crime

It seems to me after the Dobbs decision the Federal Justice Department has no standing before the court to bring suit. It is a state issue.

This is a perfect case for courts to rule that DOJ has no standing to file a suit.

DeSantis Set To Make 'Major Announcement' Tomorrow 0 replies

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis is expected to make a “major announcement” Thursday morning not related to any campaign, DeSantis press secretary Christina Pushaw tweeted Wednesday night.“MAJOR announcement tomorrow morning from @GovRonDeSantis. Prepare for the liberal media meltdown of the year,” Pushaw wrote. “Everyone get some rest tonight.” However, as Pushaw is his press secretary on the official government side, she quickly clarified this has nothing to do with a potential 2024 White House bid. “He already announced he’s running for re-election as governor,”

There are a lot of red faces at the New York Times this morning. On second thought, it’s an open question whether anyone on the Times editorial board is capable of the kind of introspection necessary to feel that emotion. Nevertheless, the terrorist leader and planner of the 9/11 attacks is dead, killed in a house belonging to a notorious Afghan terrorist responsible for killing or wounding dozens of American soldiers. Sirajuddin Haqqani is the son of the founder of the Haqqani network, a family known for its terrorist activities and extortion plots

A majority of likely voters believe Democrats are responsible for plunging the United States into a recession, a Rasmussen Reports poll released on Wednesday found.   Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell said in late July that “Democrats inherited an economy that was primed for an historic comeback, and promptly ran it straight into the ground.” Out of 1,000 likely voters surveyed between July 28-31, 59 percent say they agree with McConnell’s statement and 35 percent disagree. The margin of sampling error is ± 3 percentage points with a 95 percent level of confidence. “As might be expected, 85 percent of Republicans at least somewhat agree that Democrats “ran [the economy] straight into the ground,” as do a majority

The Senate overwhelmingly approved the application for both countries 95-1. Democrats and Republicans overwhelmingly approved of the measure, while Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO) voted no, and Sen. Walmart confirmed on Wednesday that it has begun to lay off corporate employees about a week after the company slashed its profit outlook and warned that consumers had pulled back on discretionary spending due to inflation. In a statement to CNBC, the retail giant described the layoffs as a way to "better position the company for a strong future." Anne Hatfield, a Walmart spokesperson, declined to say how many workers will be affected and what divisions have experienced cuts. She said Walmart is still hiring in parts of its business that are growing, including supply chain, e-commerce, health and wellness and advertising sales.

The hellfire missiles that are said to have taken out Al Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahiri, but not his family, are a newer generation of missiles that are high on precision and devoid of explosives. The AGM 14 R9X missile, made by Lockheed Martin, can be fired from, in Zawahiri’s case, a Reaper drone as well as other platforms. It can be fired from 600 miles away. Because its payload is tungsten and not packed explosives, this version of the hellfire doesn’t have the accompanying explosion– unless it hits, for instance, a full gas tank in a car. The R9X is called a Ninja because of the six blades deployed during flight

A poll conducted by the Caixin news service on Monday found China’s economy foundering as the second half of 2022 began, with slower manufacturing activity, higher unemployment, and a depressed real estate market. China’s weakening economy reduced its demand for oil, combining with downbeat manufacturing data from other countries to bring oil prices down by four percent. Caixin’s poll found that Chinese manufacturing activity slowed considerably in July — or possibly even contracted — after the latest round of coronavirus lockdowns ended in June and produced an exuberant surge in production. China Beige Book International (CBBI), a consulting firm for investors, said July factory output slowed to levels not seen since mid-2020 and retail sector unemployment

During the segment, Goldberg made arguments suggesting that God is fine with abortion. (snip) The host and famous actress seemed to invoke God to justify women choosing abortion, countering Hasselbeck’s pro-life points by saying that God gave women "freedom of choice." Goldberg also argued that Jesus Christ's teaching of, "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you," obliged her to not speak out against abortion lest she risk judging others.

As America moves like a barreling freight train into a third-world country, one must ask, where is Mayor Pete? It honestly didn’t take long after Joe Biden became President for shipping containers to start piling up and causing backlog and supply chain issues across the country. The estimated cost is being passed on to Americans causing the price of goods and services to increase 4.5 times more than what they had been paying at the end of 2020. The cost of exporting goods has also skyrocketed. (Tweet)

You really have to wonder who ran against some of these morons in political office sometimes. Honestly, was the alternative to someone like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez being forced to step on a rusty nail? Was Eric Swalwell’s opponent a literal cannibal promising to consume children if elected? If you set out to elect some of the dumbest creatures to ever walk upright on the planet, you couldn’t do much better than what Democrats currently have serving in Congress and the White House. Why? There is no good answer, at least one that covers everyone. There are, after all, a lot of really dumb Democrats in office.
