The 7th-most valuable NFL franchise, Da Bears of Chicago, are packing their bags and heading to greener (read: safer, more tax-friendly) pastures. It’s the perfect middle finger to woke, inept leadership personified by real-life Beetlejuice Lori Lightfoot. Chicago has seen an astonishing 35% increase in crime and hopelessly stupid policies from Lightfoot now prevent CPD officers from even pursuing potential misdeamor suspects on foot. Meanwhile, the Bears rake in $166 million annually to go toward a corrupt budget that prioritizes illicit gangbanging activities over the safety of its players, fans, and own citizens. The only question worth asking is why they didn’t do this years ago.

But the announcement begs the question: How is it that she continues to have the power to issue such mandates nearly two and a half years after the emergency was first declared? The answer is the “emergency” order remains in place, and so does the director’s mandate that masks be worn in taxis, Ubers, airports, and healthcare settings. Los Angeles County first declared a state of emergency due to COVID-19 on March 4, 2020.

MADRID — Prosecutors in Spain said Friday they would ask a court to sentence Colombian pop star Shakira to eight years and two months in prison, if she is convicted in her expected trial for alleged tax fraud. Shakira, whose full name is Shakira Isabel Mebarak Ripoll, is charged with failing to pay the Spanish government 14.5 million euros ($15 million) in taxes between 2012 and 2014. The prosecutors said they would also seek a fine of 24 million euros ($24 million). The indictment details six charges against Shakira. The singer this week rejected a settlement deal offered by prosecutors, opting to go to trial instead.

"For the first time in a decade, our economy is in recession. It’s not official yet – the group that dates recessions doesn’t act until after the fact – but there’s little doubt that we’re in the midst of a downturn.” That was economist Jared Bernstein back in December 2001. [snip] That year saw only two non-consecutive quarters of GDP decline. The unemployment rate never got over 5.7%. And when the year was over, GDP had climbed 1%. But it’s still listed on the recession roster. Today Bernstein, who sits on President Joe Biden’s Council of Economic Advisers, is trying to argue

A California mother is suing the LAUSD after she says her 13-year-old son was given the COVID-19 vaccine in exchange for pizza without the mother’s consent. As RedState’s Mike Miller reported, the 13-year-old attended the Barack Obama Global Prep Academy in South Los Angeles. The teenager went home with a vaccine card after he was given the COVID-19 vaccine at school. Maribel Duarte, the mother of the teenager said: “The lady that gave him the shot and signed the paper told my son…‘Please don’t say anything. I don’t want to get in trouble.’” So the lady knew she was wrong to give the teen a vaccine without the mother’s consent,

Of all the uncertainties that college freshmen must face, none is more sensitive than the issue of roommates. (snip) If the Biden administration gets its way, schools could force biological female students to live with biological men who identify as women and vice versa. The Department of Education has proposed a new Title IX rule that demands that colleges treat students in line with their gender identity, not their biological sex. That means that people who identify as women would live with people who identify as women, and people who identify as men would live with people who identify as men.
The Recession That Dare Not Speak Its Name replies

Thursday morning, the Commerce Department admitted what most Americans already knew — the nation is in the midst of a recession. The economy has contracted for the second consecutive quarter this year. During the first quarter, gross domestic product (GDP) shrank by 1.6 percent, and it shriveled another 0.9 percent during the quarter that just ended. Thus, the Biden economy now meets the standard benchmark economists have used for decades to define “recession.” Inevitably, the White House, its accomplices in Congress, and the corporate media are again trying to gaslight the voters.

The search history on the phone of Nicholas John Roske – accused of planning to assassinate Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh – includes the phrases like “most effective place to stab someone” and “assassin skills,” according to a Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) search warrant application. Both subjects, among other phrases using “assassin” and “assassination,” were searched on the device in the weeks leading up to his alleged attempt on Kavanaugh’s life. In the affidavit supporting a search warrant, obtained by the Daily Beast, FBI special agent Ian Montijo highlighted worrying Internet searches from the phone of the accused, Nicholas Roske, between May 5 – just days after the Supreme Court leak

On Thursday, the Biden administration ordered for the Yuma Morelos Dam Project in Arizona to be completed, which would “close four gaps” along the porous southern border sector. According to the Associated Press, this effort was backed by former President Donald Trump’s administration, essentially vindicating conservatives who backed tougher security in the region. The Department of Homeland Security said that the effort will mitigate the risks for migrants, as “the area presents safety and life hazard risks,” according to a statement. Of course, nobody should expect the administration to brag about this,

Americans don’t trust our institutions

Why don’t Americans trust the government and other institutions? Maybe it’s because the government and other institutions aren’t trustworthy.  There’s certainly plenty of evidence for both the lack of trust and the lack of trustworthiness. And if the trend continues, it bodes poorly for America. The news is bad on the lack of trust. A recent University of Chicago Institute of Politics poll found that a majority of Americans think that the government is “corrupt and rigged against people like me.” Two-thirds of Republicans and independents felt that way, but things weren’t much better among liberals, 51% of whom agreed. So this isn’t the usual sour grapes from the party out of power — it’s a general sentiment.

After a year of high-profile scandals, Yale Law School is retiring an all-student listserv that became a breeding ground for progressive activism and online pile-ons, citing the value of "face-to-face" interaction. If students want to "debate important questions," the dean of Yale Law School Heather Gerken announced in an email on Wednesday, they can post on a physical bulletin board in the law school’s hallway. "Debate and dialogue are the touchstones of an academic institution," Gerken said. The new forum will force students to "take time to reflect before posting, a habit that lawyers and members of a scholarly community must practice."

Democratic Sen. Joe Manchin, who cut the White House out of negotiations with Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer on a $739 billion spending plan, refused Thursday to say whether he’d endorse President Biden for a second term in 2024. “I don’t know who is going to be running. If Joe Biden runs again and he is the Democratic nominee, depending on who the Republican nominee is, we will just have to wait and see,” Manchin (D-WV) told Chris Cuomo in an interview that aired on NewsNation. “I am not predicting anything, or how I would support or not support,

Looks like Axios got this right in its snap analysis of Kyrsten Sinema’s reaction to the reconciliation deal announced late yesterday between Joe Manchin and Chuck Schumer. No one bothered to consult Sinema on the deal, Manchin revealed a few minutes ago to CNN’s Manu Raju, and no one has heard from her yet, either. Manchin thinks she’ll go along, but he’s not going to budge if she continues objecting to one component of the deal: For those unfamiliar with the carried-interest tax issue, the proposal will change the way income from investments get taxed. At the moment, carried interest gets taxed at capital-gains rates, which are significantly lower

Five months after Russia invaded Ukraine, the war is now reduced to one of attrition. The current dirty, grinding slog is fought mostly with artillery and rockets. Everything from Ukraine’s shopping centers to apartment buildings — and the civilians in them — are Russian targets. Most outsiders have already forgotten the heroic Ukrainian winter repulse of the botched Russian shock-and-awe effort to sweep into Kyiv, decapitate the government, and declare the eastern half of the country a Russian protectorate within mere days. Months later,
