The pay is low. The prestige is falling. The housing is often dilapidated and roach-infested. You move around a lot and your children constantly have to say 'goodbye' to their friends. The wars are lost and the border stands unguarded from invaders. The indoctrination is pure wokesterism, advising you that you're the bad guy and the flag you serve under is worth taking a knee. You take a vaccine known to harm young people, or else. You shower with unreconstructed transgender individuals. You watch as your highly bemedaled top commander doesn't bother with basic military fitness regulations required of you.

I come from a long line of those who served in the military stretching back to the Revolution. My father a highly decorated WWI vet, a brother served in WWII. two brothers served in Korea, one wounded three times, I served in the early days of Viet Nam, I advised my children to stay as far as possible from the military during the Clinton Administration.

I ask my fellow vets to forgive my emotional outburst but to Ms Showalter I say: Unless you have a DD214 I am not aware of, when it comes to the military, please Sierra Tango Foxtrot Uniform.

No, you don't need a DD214 to have an opinion on how the Left ruins everything it touches -- including the Military. That's one of the things the Military used to fight for.
I've been having these conversations with young people since Obama took office.

I am also one of those no longer recommending young people go in the military. I have a grandson leaving in a couple of days for the Air Force and another working through the sign-up procedures (this is taking weeks, so they must not be hurting that much) for the Air Force. I also have a granddaughter-in-law that is long term NG. I worry about them daily - not from our enemies, but our own government.

The commanding officer of USSF that was crucified for speaking on the infiltration of Marxist theory across all branches of service spoke on a podcast with Dr. Bob recently. The take away for me was how could we get & keep willing service members to serve while simultaneously brainwashing them to believe if they are Caucasian - they are racist oppressors or of any other ethic background - they will be abused & discriminated against. Who the devil would want to serve with the other?

My father, who was a medic in the fifth corp. in WWII, told me not to go into the military during the later years of Vietnam. I think it was because he'd seen what war could do to the human body.

As planned, the military ranks will be filled with the invading armies of young men now infiltrating America. Zero allegiance to our nation and will no doubt will be used on civilians as needed.

These issues were always the case, but patriots understood sacrifice was necessary to protect America. Now, however, all the rest comes into play. Wokeism, dealing nonstop with the sexually perverse, CRT being shoved down their throats, etc.. These are NOT worthy of sacrifice and for those reasons very few active duty and/or veterans still recommend the military to their families or friends.

The military shouldn't be a family-oriented line of work, modeling suburbia. Our military manpower exceeds our defense needs, with unnecessary postings around the world. Of course, no one will face that...We're #1...Leader of the Free World...$30 TRILLION deep in sovereign debt and currently plagued with inflation and other economic woes...and our military is a great social experiment to legitimize deviant sexual and social behavior.

Military families are typically generational. Mine for example, my father served in WWII, I served in the Air Force for 25 years and my two sons are pilots in the United States Marine Corps. During the time period from WWII until the present we have witnessed a degradation in leadership, lower quality of life (driven by endless meaningless foreign wars that are not in America’s interests). The endless deployments have caused countless marital separations, divorces and unfortunately, suicides. Also the political correctness pushed on the troops CRT, forced cohabitation with LGBTQWXYZ troops etc. has greatly impacted unit cohesion. Democrats have also turned the military into a sort of welfare system by inducting troops that have minimal abilities to accomplish tasks with the lure of free housing, food, medical care and some meager pay. Don’t get me wrong, there are still lots of patriots serving and signing up to do their duty to God and country, but their service is not appreciated by those currently running the show. We don’t have experienced war fighters in the senior leadership and strategic/tactical planning and decision making positions. I’m concerned for the near future, as we may not be ready to take on enemies and win decisively with those at the helm. We need to right this ship and soon. Just my thoughts.

Perhaps we should pare down our military to one that only protects America? You ever wonder why Argentina doesn't have a "Wounded Warrior Program"?
Its because Argentina doesn't send its soldiers anywhere. They stay in Argentina.
But America? We go fight wars all over. And they are wars that even if we lose, like Vietnam, do not change or alter daily life in America at all. American soldiers have not "protected" America since the War of 1812. Because that was the last time anyone had the ability to land an army on our coast. These days, we do not defend America, we enforce our government's foriegn policy.

The Number twelve, if it wasn’t for generations of military family participation, we would never have any continuity or skilled war fighters. If you have never served- just Shut the F up. You are a Never Trumper based on your posts!

Number 17 responding to number 12, Number 12 is half right when he says that our military has turned into a social experiment. Heck, just this morning I read that the Navy is going to try a fake meat program on its sailors. I'm guessing just for the enlisted? Served 20 years and used to think that everyone, or nearly everyone should serve at least a couple of years. Nowadays, not so much. It didn't start with the installed CiC, but it began when Obama replaced senior staff with his bag men. The social warrior crap has to go. There's no room in the service for people who don't understand that if you have a penis you're a boy and if you have vagina you're a girl. The rest of the world, specifically the countries that would like to see us disappear, don't concern themselves with such nonsense. I don't know when but the current thinking of those who run our military is going to bite us in the arse. The military is a weapon that should be kept sharp, today it's duller than Biden's pudding spoon. I don't mean any disrespect to the many who are still serving amongst all the deviants, but making the deviants front and center really tarnishes our military's reputation. It sickens me. All the negative things the article says about serving such as housing, pay, moving, etc weren't as important as long as the military had the reputation it had, lose that and it leaves one questioning why serve.

I have three grandchildren in DOD's overseas schools. They came within an eyelash last year of having CRT in the classroom, under the direction of DOD's Chief of DEI, Kelisa Wing. Look up her name on Amazon.com for the books DOD wants to mandate for military kids.

My son is the first male in five generations that did not serve in the U.S. armed forces. He’s the first in four generations that didn’t fight in a war. That’s fine with me. Given the current state of tye military, I wouldn’t want him anywhere near it.

As a combat veteran in Vietnam I see the only way to correct this is to sack every single general officer in all of the services. They have become political stooges not worthy to lead the rank and file. Also the current SedDef is a traitor who’s only qualification is the color of skin.

This is clearly not the service I nor my parents or grandparents serve in. That's for sure! This is to me the most obvious idea that there is a giant split coming to the USA. There will be an Eastern, Western and Central States of America where the Central will be what the original founders meant it to be.

I was in boot camp 1-60, Bainbridge MD. We had one gal who was deadly afraid of bugs. One day, while eating in the chow hall, she found the remnants of a roach in her food. Could not stop her screaming. So today, 2022, we find that the Navy may be serving meatless,, probably bug food to the sailors. Nice going. Yeah pay was short. Yes our barracks had spaces in the walls where cold winds could come through, even snow. We hung our newly washed clothes to dry outside in below zero weather. Underwear could decapitate. Anyhow. Tough time. I loved it. It gave meaning to me, not bad. I didn' hear any one complain. We served. We were proud. I would not encourage any young woman or young man to enlist. In any of the services. For what it's worth, we were proud to serve. Much time has passed. Changes mostly not for the good.

Going to get worse as those close to retirement are just biding (no pun inteneded) their time. Same with law enforcement.

What the left doesn't realize, because they are driven by hate, is when this country is taken down the ones in charge will be the first ones they eliminate. Stand by. And don't think they didn't notice who of you had Biden political signs in your front yard this last election. They know where you live.
