Former White House trade adviser Peter Navarro has declined a plea offer to plead guilty to a contempt of Congress charge, the lead federal prosecutor in the case told a judge on Friday.
Navarro had pleaded not guilty to two misdemeanor counts of contempt of Congress on June 17 after he refused to cooperate with the House January 6 committee’s probe into the breach of the Capitol building on Jan. 6, 2021.
He cited executive privilege due to his former position at the White House under the Trump administration. But Bennie Thompson (D-Miss.), the chairman of the Jan. 6 committee, rejected his claims of executive privilege,

FTA,
“It’s a complicated constitutional case involving separation of powers,” John Irving, one of the defense attorneys, told reporters outside the courthouse after the hearing.
“It involves not only the President of the United States asserting his executive privilege, but [also] over 50 years of DOJ opinions that make it clear that top presidential aides are able to assert absolute immunity and not testify before Congress. Not only that, but also the Justice Department has longstanding policies about not prosecuting someone criminally for this kind of situation,” he added. “So I wonder what changed.”
John Rowley, another defense attorney, told reporters: “This is the first time in our nation’s 250-year history that a senior adviser to a president has been criminally charged for refusing to comply with a congressional subpoena.

Even Obama-appointed Judge Mehta was critical of the way Navarro’s arrest was handled:
“It is curious to me, at a minimum, why the government treated Mr. Navarro’s arrest the way it did,” Mehta said on July 15. “It is a federal crime, but it is not a violent crime.”
“It’s surprising that self-surrender was not offered as an opportunity,” he added.

Did I read that Navarro's will be on November 17th? Isn't the Mid-Term election on November 8th? Wouldn't that mean that MANY of those on the Jan. 6th Committee won't be in Congress anymore at that date? For sure Cheney will be gone! Republicans will be in charge and anyone sent to Jail by this committee should be pardoned!! Republicans should force the Democrats on that committee to have offices in the Basement! They deserve not to be treated like someone good and decent because they have proven they are anything but!

Peter’s lawyers should be requesting a change in trial location. Neither he nor Bannon can receive a fair trial in DC when most of not all of the potential jurors are rabid Democrats. With Judge Mehta just a degree less rabid when it comes to punishing Trump followers while protecting Biden.
On subject of biased jurors, what’s happened to special prosecutor John Durham? Did he volunteer to serve in Ukraine? Or did his unsuccessful attempt to convict an FBI attorney for plotting against President Trump make him give up on his quest for justice? Durham was either naive in believing a DC jury composed of Hillary and Biden supporters & contributors would fairly weigh the evidence or Durham wanted to fail. He has apparently left the building.

Remember, a plea agreement being offered to a " defendant," usually means they don't really have a case but are looking to notch their gunbelt. Also, a plea agreement circumvents the actual judicial process. Peter Navarro is absolutely right to say "See you in court, prove your case against me."

Navarro is likely to prove the committee a complete sham and as set up is an illegal operation. Cheney should be in jail.

no offense #4 but the new Congress won't be sworn in until January. A lame duck Congress can do a lot of damage between election day and ouster.

Good for him...it's a trap...and he should always remember being handcuffed and shackled at the airport by the FBI...then finger printed and stripped searched and put into a cell...he even said he was cavity searched at the jail...it was done to humiliate him...but they may have turned lose a real enemy when President Trump takes over again...MAGA!!

Number 4 - the new Congress starts Jan 3 , 2023- these people will be in office until then.
But knowing Kevin McCarthy and the GOP there will be some grumbling and posturing on Fox News but there will be no payback. The Swapboats will continue to troll the Potomac.

I have contempt for the FBI for the way they handled Peter Navarro and for trying to publicly humiliate him at the airport without cause. These despicable lawmen have forever ruined the good name of a once respected agency. And that goes for Christopher Wray, a sold out politician.

There is no Justice in the District of Columbia. They are all rabid Democrats. Not the peers of Navarro and Bannon who will go to prison for US. We must get Trump back to clean up the Deep State. I see no other way.

Professor Navarro was my economics/public policy teacher at UC Irvine back in the day. A great, principled man too good for the modern-day Sanhedrin who are perpetuating such villainy on this patriot.
They will all get theirs one day.

God bless Peter Navarro with success in this endeavor, which may cost him, I'd guess, $200,000+ by the time this misdemeanor goes to trial.

Those cretins. All of them rolled up in a ball - awful thought- are not worth one Peter Navarro. A Bennie Thompson should never have the authority to reject a claim of executive privilege and cause charges to be presseed.
