Vice President Kamala Harris would defeat Florida Governor Ron DeSantis in a hypothetical 2024 presidential match-up, according to a new poll, but the race would be extremely close.
A poll from the Harvard University Center for American Political Studies (CAPS) has found that Harris enjoys 39 support to the Republican governor's 37 percent in a theoretical contest. (snip) The poll showed Trump defeating both Biden and Harris in hypothetical 2024 contests. Trump had 43 percent support to Biden's 40 percent, with 17 percent undecided.
In a theoretical race against Harris, Trump performed even better, garnering 45 percent to Harris' 39 percent with 16 percent of respondents undecided.

Former House Speaker Paul Ryan was so "disturbed" by the events of the January 6 riots that he "found himself sobbing" while watching the events on television. Ryan, a Republican, told journalist Mark Leibovich for his upcoming book "Thank You For Your Servitude" that he often did not cry but "something snapped in him" that day, CNN reported. "I spent my whole adult life in that building," Ryan said. "And I saw my friends, a lot of cops, some of my old security detail – I'm still friends with a bunch of those guys. It really disturbed me, foundationally." Ryan spent

Fewer Americans than ever say that they believe that the Bible should be taken literally, while a record number of Americans now say they view the holy book as a compilation of "fables, legends, history and moral precepts recorded by man," according to a Gallup poll.
One in five Americans surveyed said the Bible is the "actual word of God, to be taken literally," about half off from the high point in 1984. The survey also shows that as fewer Americans are ranking religion as "very important," the number of those who believe the Bible came directly from God decreases.

The Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) has warned power consumers in Texas to conserve energy on Monday afternoon and evening because there will not be enough wind power to operate the power grid reliably in peak demand. (Tweet) Though Texas is known for its role in the oil industry, it is also the nation’s number-one producer of wind energy. During a cold snap in the winter of 2021, however, wind turbines froze and many Texans found themselves without electricity.
Now that scenario is likely to repeat itself, albeit due to high temperatures that are accompanied by calm conditions.

President Joe Biden blamed Republicans for soaring gas prices in a Sunday tweet, moving on from the “Putin-price hike” shtick.
Biden attempted to shift blame onto Republicans as a way to drive up support amongst voters for the November midterms.
“Republicans are doing nothing but obstructing our efforts to crack down on gas-price gouging, lower food prices, lower healthcare costs, and hopefully, soon, lower your prescription drug costs,” Biden tweeted. “This is not right. And that’s why this election is going to be so darn important.” (Tweet)

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer has tested positive for COVID, his office said Sunday. “As a part of his regular testing regimen, Leader Schumer received a positive test result for COVID-19,” said Angelo Roefaro, a spokesman for the Democrat senator from New York.
Schumer, 71, is fully vaccinated, double boosted and experiencing “very mild symptoms,” according to his office. He plans to quarantine through the week in his Brooklyn home and will work remotely while the Senate is in session, Roefaro said. “He greatly appreciates the protection the vaccine has provided him and encourages everyone to test regularly and get vaccinated and boosted,” the spokesman said.

Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg said on this week’s broadcast of Fox News Sunday that it was appropriate for demonstrators to protest outside a restaurant where Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh was dining.
Buttigieg said, “You’re never going to be free from criticism or peaceful protests, people exercising their First Amendment rights, and that That’s what happened in this case. Remember, the justice never even came into contact with these protesters, reportedly didn’t see or hear them. And these protesters are upset because a right, an important right that the majority of Americans support, was taken away.”

Maryland's Governor Larry Hogan, a Republican, assessed Sunday that Donald Trump's "influence is diminishing," pointing to significant primary losses by GOP candidates endorsed by the former president.
Hogan has long been critical of Trump, with the GOP governor repeatedly clashing publicly with the ex-president throughout his White House tenure. Following the 2020 election and the pro-Trump January 6, 2021 attack against the U.S. Capitol, Hogan has condemned the former president's election lies and his efforts to subvert democracy.

A female US Army soldier took to TikTok to question her loyalty to the United States after the Supreme Court's reversal of Roe v. Wade. "How am I supposed to wake up every day and put on a freaking uniform that says United States Army when the United States doesn't even give a rat's ass about me," the soldier said.
In 2019, the Army advised soldiers not to use TikTok on government-owned phones, citing national security risks from the Chinese app. China-based employees also have access to US user data.

The Biden administration said Monday it secured 3.2 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine from Novavax ahead of authorization from the Food and Drug Administration. The Department of Health and Human Services said the vaccine will provide another option for Americans who’ve remained on the sidelines during the vaccine push. “While more than two-thirds of the American public are already fully vaccinated, we must maintain a sense of urgency to ensure all eligible individuals get vaccinated, particularly heading into the fall. This latest vaccine would offer people another choice to help protect themselves from severe disease or hospitalization caused by COVID-19,” said Jason Roos, the chief operating
