A 34-year-old Colorado man is recovering after he was gored by a bison Monday at Yellowstone National Park.
According to park officials, he was walking on a boardwalk with his family near the Old Faithful geyser.
The group reportedly did not leave the area when a bison charged at them.
The bull bison continued to charge and gored the man, causing injury to his arm.
He was transported by ambulance to a hospital.
Park officials say the matter is under investigation, but language in the news release suggests the man was too close to the bison.

This happens a lot with big animals ..The little ones never make news .In Maine a moose wasn’t photogenic enough so the Dad got out of his car to throw a few stones at the BIG critter ..The enraged male with a big rack , stomped the heck outta the guy’s car .An event celebrated nationally in “Moose Tracks “ ice cream ../s darwin was right .

"Death in Yellowstone" is one of many books with accounts of tourists getting just what the title says. Bison are HUGE, I can't imagine wanting to get close to a wild animal like that. Even a domestic bull needs to be treated with respect. Those people should have gotten that child away from it immediately. TAs teh origina; poster points out, that guy was apparently saving it when he got hit. Hope he's OK.

Another example of natural selection. Despite the NPS warnings that folks respect wildlife, it keeps happening.

Agree with OP. Clearly two or three of the group were agitating the massive animal. Only possible good explanation was to lure the bison away from the child. If, however, the bison were a real threat, would he have left everyone else alone, and also not repeat attack the main provocateur?
People are warned about how to behave. The bison being a bison.

Unbelievable adults with a child dared to do this. Do they not read warnings? I'd check out whoever the people are caring for the child. Not only was he endangered by getting that close, when the animal charged they ran off and left him.

This happens to ignorant tourists who have only seen large animals in zoos and have no idea of what they are like in their natural habitat, and how fast they can be, and how they deal with potential enemies. They view bozos like him and his buddies as invaders. The enemy.

"Do not get near the Fuzzy Cows, they do NOT like being tickled under the Chin"
after going for the kid, then goring the guy...it headed for another guy further up the boardwalk, wearing Khaki clothes...who sprayed bear spray at it. A ranger? Had he already sprayed it enraging it? He is in a cloud of orange spray as the goring happens, then clearly sprays again when the Bison gets closer to him.

The buffalo was waging his tail the whole time. Dumb tourists probably thought he wanted his belly rubbed.

I was shocked at the number of people in area. I always envisioned Yellowstone as a natural wonder; never dreamt it could be so crowded and with apparent imbeciles at that.

The person who let go of the child's hand and ran should be banned from ever taking care of that child again.

I'm old enough to remember when we called them buffalo. I'll stick with that. "Bison" is sooo high hat.

What morons. Never approach a large animal, especially one that is agitated and can kill you.

Watch the video. The guy who was gored, was heading towards the CLEARLY agitated and threatening bison bull, as two people holding the hands of a small child just stood there and made no real effort to get away as the bull 'warned them' very, very clearly that he was sick of them. When the "bull hit the fan" the "parents" ran, abandoning the child and the other man ran over and grabbed the child and pulled the child clear....and got gored. I don't know why he went towards a clearly agitated and threatening bison bull, but the "parents" are both idiots and cowards, abandoning the child. There may be more to this story, perhaps the "parents" aren't really the parents, maybe are grandparents and the man running up was the father of the child, going to save it. Why they didn't get rapidly away when the bull clearly was warning them, I cannot fathom. Brainless.
