Two Uvalde cops passed up a chance to take out the gunman who killed 19 kids and two teachers at a Texas elementary school before he entered the building, according to a report. The officers worked for the city, and one was armed with an AR-15-style rifle as the May 24 massacre at Robb Elementary School unfolded. But they hesitated to open fire at Salvador Ramos because they did not want to hit any nearby children, Chief Deputy Ricardo Rios of the Zavalla County Sheriff’s office told The New York Times.(Snip)The missed opportunity came moments after a school district officer drove past Ramos without seeing him

Do you really blame them? When a poor decision means a murder charge, why would they risk anything but a perfect shot after being told it's a go?

And also note the following. Right after 9/11, a top US government priority was to address the problem of First Responders who were on the scene together, but whose radios could not connect with one another. The Dubya administration spent some foolish untold sum to upgrade local First Responder radio systems nationwide, using "federal money" for reasons of national security, but here we are again, more than 20 years later and several generations of technology later and they say the radios still don't work, even in a rinky-dink town. Where did the money go?
FTA: "Separately, Zavala County Sheriff Eusevio Salinas told CNN that when he responded to the scene about 30 minutes into the tragedy, he didn’t hear anyone say they were in charge. He and Rios found a chaotic situation, the sheriff said. Salinas had a portable radio, which was broadcasting traffic by the Texas Department of Safety, but he didn’t hear radio traffic from the Uvalde Police Department nor the Uvalde schools district police. Inside, he found a 'hazy and foggy' scene with multiple people on the floor receiving first aid. He helped evacuate children from some classrooms and then helped clear other rooms."

Gunshot victims often die from bleeding to death. I wonder how many kids bled to death, while officers stood around for an hour and a half. The media don't ask, and the police department don't mention it.

Children were apparently in class. What is he talking about?

There is still such a thing called "recess" that would allow students to be outside.

I think if the shooter were to walk up to the school back door with rifle in hand while kids are outside for recess, the whole place would have been in commotion, with kids and teachers screaming and running in 360 different directions. No--I think school was in session, in class. Admittedly, I wasn't there.

Bull crap on this lame excuse. They had no training spent no time at the range and were totally incompetent in a situation like this. So fear took over and the excuses are designed to gain sympathy from the public and exonerated them. Aim small miss small. Aim for the head because I’m sure he was taller than the kids. Cowardice and fear took over and bravery and courage ran away. Disgusting and totally unacceptable.

Remember if it was not for the big bad US Border Patrol Agents who took it upon themselves to kill the shooter, and who Biden and the leftist, progressive, and socialist Democrat are talking about disciplining and disbanding that there is a good chance that a lot more children would have been murdered.

So they allowed 19 people to die instead? Wise decision you incompetent fools. I can hit a bullseye with an AR-15 with open sights at a hundred yards and I'm sure those cops are half my age. If you can't do the job don't put on the uniform and don't take the paycheck.

The first time I fired an AR-15 at the range, the thing that really surprised me was how incredibly accurate it was. With no prior training I was able to empty a full clip into an area the size of a softball at 100 yards.
How could these guys have possibly missed and hit a kid if they fired?

Is there a Bass Pro or Walmart nearby where a few tax payer dollars in the police budget could be used to buy some walkie talkies - and make sure they're all working at the beginning of each shift? Were there no windows in the school that could be broken out with a sledge hammer so the cops could get inside instead of them standing around for an hour before they could unlock the door?

To all the wannabe rambos in here saying take the shot, I would havekilled him, i have Pinpoint accuracy etc etc etc first realize you have absolutely no Idea how you would have reacted, and pray you never find out. Second the opportunity lasted seconds, in the time its taken you to read this far those 2 guys, not having the knowledge you have, ie knowing that 19 would be killed, unaware of the idiots real intent, accutely aware of the destruction to their lives if they make the wrong decision and NO IDEA WHAT IS BEHIND HIM, had to decide whether to spray the area with gunfire. The shooter was a moving target, probably walking very quickly towards the door and was in and out of their view in a few seconds. There was not going to be a movie scene pinpoint sniper shot, this was going to be a whip up the rifle snap shot. Kinda like shooting a flushing pheasant with a deer rifle. How many of you would bet your life on that shot.
I think the response of the police was deplorable and with what we know about these incidents policy should never be to wait for a commander to show up. These kids only chance was a rapid response once the shooting started.
The law enforcement paradigm needs to change much like the hijacking paradigm changed on 9/11. Before then the policy was sit tight and wait it out, after 9/11 it was kill the hijacker no matter what. Police policy still treats these mass shootings as hostage events, like old time hijackings, and not like an in progress mass murder. This is not a simple undertaking, police are rigourously trained not to be cowboys, not to rush in blindly and to analyze and assess situations and de-escalate, rather than ratchet up. Snap decisions are discouraged because they are both dangerous and often worng. Your asking law enforcement to learn to recognize when that training has to be completely ignored, while at the same time reminding them that if they make the wrong decision its their lives that will be ruined. Thats a pretty tall order.
Thats why the effort must be made to stop these things before they start, better school security woud go a very long way in that direction.

#18, you wrote what I was thinking, but better than I could.
I would like to add:
Image the leftist Media national outcry if the cop HAD shot this "poor, bullied, emotionally damaged favored Minority CHILD" ....before he did anything wrong -at least that they knew of!
There would be a national media outcry about 'Trigger-Happy Cops Gunning Down Minority CHILDREN"!
The Media is just itching for SOMETHING to bash traditional Americans -including 'Red State' law enforcement officers- about, to take the Media spotlight off the myriad of problems that Crooked Dementia Joe and the people who control his Teleprompter have foisted on the USA.
The cop would be up on a 'Murder One' charge in a New York Minute, and the Media would be in full cry DEMANDING a 'National Discussion' on Trigger-Happy Cops. (Another so-called 'Discussion' where -as usual- only the Left's opinion would be allowed to be expressed.)

Nothing justifies STANDING AROUND for over an HOUR because NO ONE can
make a decision or even GET a decision from higher up the flag pole !
If there was gunfire heard INSIDE the school, all bets are off and it's showtime because
you can bet that the gunfire is NOT indoor target practice.
Take a look at a picture of the school, Windows ? You want windows ? the design is mid-century
contemporary with more glass than solid wall, Looking inside wouldn't have been difficult.
Small kids periscope perhaps or even a palm sized mirror.

If only those cops had merely read all the reports that have come out after the shooting they would have been more informed as to the actions they could take at that time. Perhaps they could subscribe to next weeks newspaper like Gary Hobson had on Early Edition.
They would have known there was only the one shooter and not multiple shooters scattered around the school.
They would have known where the one shooter was hiding.
They would have known whether they would be charged with a crime for shooting the shooter.
OK we already know that. They would be.

Nearby children? School was in session; there was nobody outside except the killer on his way into what they now say was an unlocked door that was supposed to lock automatically. Change the story enough times and people will tire of hearing old news, and agree that we need gun control because when there's trouble, the trained cops with guns who trained for such an event at that very location will hide until the danger passes.
