The streets of downtown Portland, Oregon, resemble an open-air drug market. Heroin, meth and fentanyl use is rampant and often visible on city streets. Portland police officers drive by homeless addicts buying and using. The signs of drug addiction are actually increasing throughout the state, according to law enforcement sources. Oregon ranks second-highest among U.S. states for substance abuse with nearly one in five adults addicted.(Snip)Sixteen months into this first-in-the-nation experiment, the numbers paint a bleak picture. Drug overdose deaths hit an all-time high in 2021 with 1069, a 41% increase from 2020. And very few people are getting into treatment.

You really have to feel sorry for many of the users who either got into drugs due to some traumatic experience like rape or getting thrown out of their homes when they were younger or because someone "pushed" the drugs on them when they were too young to comprehend what would happen to them. At the same time, though, since so few people ever manage to kick the really "hard" drug (i.e. opioid) habit you have to wonder if perhaps they are really not better off dead. I think God is understanding and will take care of them because their lives now on earth are the real hell.

If you really want to see the reality of what drug addiction does to human beings you need to view the interviews of homeless crack and meth addicts on LA's skid row recorded by the SoftWhiteUnderbelly YouTube channel. If you can watch the the tragic degeneration of Amanda Rabb from a young black girl to an unrecognizable street prostitute/addict and still think drugs should be legalized you have no compassion for humanity.
With the help of caring people who saw her interviews on YouTube, Amanda managed to eventually rehabilitate herself and regain her sobriety only to die from brain damage in her sleep at 25.

FTA...'"What we’re absolutely seeing is that as drug possession has been decriminalized, property crimes have increased and so has violent crime," said District Attorney Kevin Barton of Washington County, Oregon. Police in rural parts of Oregon also tell Fox News they are seeing more theft as people steal to feed their addiction.'
The thing is, just because they have decriminalized drugs, the drugs are not free. Just where did the good citizens think the druggies would get the money to buy the legal drugs. From them. Those who think that drugs should be decriminalized, (I'm looking at you Greg Gutfeld, Kat Timpf and some posters here at Luciann.com) aren't really thinking of the consequences of that policy. Next they will want all drugs to be free and then, again, the taxpayers will be on the hook and of course, there will be a rise in addicts and deaths from overdoses.

Seems to be working. As OP says, "Give the people what they want." How about a side of fentanyl? These connoisseurs of fine chemicals know full well what they're getting into. Sorry for the heartbreak they cause. No one swallows drain cleaner, or even picks the gum off the bottom of chairs to chew...why do they pursue this foolishness? Not society's problem.

Helps liberals get rid of the homeless, drug addicts and others they despise with plausible deniability as to their complicity.

The reality is if someone wants a particular drug, legal or not, they will get it. Yes some do recover but only when they're ready to change. I don't want anyone's child or parent to die from drugs. But I can't control their lives. I have always thought we should legalize all of it but have a medical group giving the medication to them only after they sat and talked to the dr. This gives them a chance to talk to someone who might help them get free of the drug. Yeah, I know, a hard row to hoe, but it could change someone's life for the better.

"On October 27, 1997, Oregon enacted the Death with Dignity Act which allows terminally ill individuals to end their lives through the voluntary self-administration of lethal medications, expressly prescribed by a physician for that purpose." Do you suppose this is related to their current drug situation?

This is really an indirect depopulation and population control program intended to let people commit suicide by drugs and alcohol. The sooner they die, the more money that will be saved on their medical care and social security and medicare benefits not having to be paid out if they live that long. Plus it keeps them out of those expensive prisons and that requires less operating budgets and prison workers. So it's an all-around win-win deal.

To paraphrase, the fault IS in the stars. Music, movies and entertainment has influenced three or more generations to get high. The results are on the streets.

Hurry up and die so you can free up the state for others who know how to live and enjoy that beautiful scenery. People are not forced or pushed into drug use, it's now a lifestyle and the weak go along with the peer behavior. The War on Drugs has been going on for over 50 years and we lost it a long time ago. The majority of police budgets go to anti-drug activity.

FTA: The Drug Addiction Treatment and Recovery Act secured 58% of the votes and decriminalized possession of small amounts of hard drugs such as heroin, meth, cocaine and fentanyl. If you are wondering how 30% still think president sniffer is doing a good job. Never underestimate the stupidity of a democrat voter.
