We hear plenty of reasons for the perfect storm that imploded California. One-party, progressive government, of course. Decades of unchecked illegal immigration, without doubt. Years of mass flight out of state of the productive middle classes, certainly.
But perhaps the most important, but overlooked, reason has been the infusion of trillions of dollars of mostly tech capital into the state. Unimaginable sums of market capital warped politics and led to a top-down, feudal society, run by progressive elites who are shielded from the ramifications of their own toxic ideologies.

The question always remains: why don't people vote these Elites OUT? On this Coast we have AOC, who never visits her district, cost it a vast bundle turning Amazon away, and mostly is noted for makeup tricks online and stating that people who oppose her just want to sleep with her. And yet here she stays!!!!!!!

VDH, you stated why I recently left my beloved California, leaving all my friends behind, all of them semi-elites, for a state whose citizens worry that I brought California ways with me. I didn't, and I feel blessed and lucky to be here.
Plus, there's RAIN!

Hmm. VDH avoided the Kalifornika Kakocrats political party. I reckon he didn't wish to insult the readers' intelligence by stating the obvious.
Of course this is exactly why the kakocrats want our Southern border open. They see what importing ignorant immigrants did to kalifornika and that is what our betters want for the entire country. The "Greatest Generation" spoiled us with their good intentions and we haved allowed the elite to pave a road to serfdom for our progeny.

#4 You are absolutely right about the Greatest Generation. In their desire to have the best for their children, they unfortunately raise the Worst Generation.

I would point out that HALF of the Greatest Generation raised their kids to be the liberal messes they are today. The other half, like my parents, raised patrotic, GOD revering, conservative, productive contributors to society, like my parents. And don't forget, it was the Greatest Generation who foisted LBJs Great Society on us because of their guilt over how they treated Blacks, that paved the way for the sorry racial state in which we find our country today.

Glad we got out while we could.
Self-absorbed rich elites took the reins and ruined CA.
But the enemy is at their gates.
We saw a man pulled from his car and beaten in another state, it can happen in CA.
It will probably happen suddenly and fairly soon.

Mr. Hanson is, as usual, an accurate recorder of the history of horrors in his own state.
A couple of the more accurate encapsulations of the destruction of a once great state.
FTA:
"due to decades of policies that zoned away new home construction, strangled the gas, timber, and mining industries, taxed and regulated gas and diesel to the point of unaffordability, neglected the needs of the state’s once rich farming industry, and loved fish far more than people. "
and
"[San Francisco] is increasingly medieval. Its downtown is emptying, filthy, toxic, dangerous, and pre-civilizational—perhaps an unfair term since it was rare in pre-Roman Gaul or nomadic North Africa for tribal residents to sleep in the village pathways, fornicate and defecate openly among children, and violently attack random passersby." Yes, the medival folks wouldn't put up with this behavior.
and on last vision of California....
"One-third of Americans on public assistance live in California. To drive through the rural center of the state is to revisit the 1930s world of the Joads. Ramshackle farmhouses now house 20 or some immigrants. Many of them reside here illegally, in trailers, shacks, and illegal add-ons. "
They want the overwhelming majority of all of us dead. We are in their way. Other humans are their vermin. We are not happy to be the 21st century peasants groveling to their Hunger Games kingly and queenly magnificence.
They dream of the recreating times of old when the kings, queens, dukes and duchesses weren't bothered by the peasants, and if someone was shooting the King's deer, the Sheriff of Nottingham would send out his men to string them up. They saw it once in a movie and thought it would be fun to recreate.

Wow! Talk about red flags! More like red banners. I am old, so I am out of here shortly, but I think all us can learn so much from Dr. Hanson's essay. In our own little world we have to try to be independent of the money = power bunch that rule the world. First, focus on Christ and his gospel. Top down. Had a priest tell me when I voiced concern about someone who was losing their faith, to tell him to study Christ and His message, rather than some fallible human being, like a technocrat who does not know how to smile. Top down, not bottom up. Fast if you can from food or drink, but especially from social media. Take some of their billions away from them. Was on Rt. 95 Saturday, a really beautiful June day and practically every car that drove past me had their windows tightly closed. Why? Open the windows. Let some fresh air in. Put some great music on the radio and play it loud. Everyone - especially the young - is in his or her own little cocoon checking out their screens. These soulless people who want to run/ruin the world do not know how to be happy. Cut the cord, whether it be t.v. or facebook, twitter, etc. I was told that everything starts in California and moves east. It can happen.
