The second worst fate that can befall an agitator is when nobody takes his fiery exhortations seriously. But by far the worst fate is when the crowds take him literally; because then he faces something far more frightening than the mere customary order he is trying to overthrow: he faces the full import of a radical vision taken to its ultimate conclusion.
One of the biggest hazards in the social change business is runaway virtue. Ideology in the lives of true believers often becomes an end in itself and this becomes a problem for practical politicians who want to come across as radical but not insane, and are embarrassed

Great article. Thanks OP. And the closing reminder of the Great Reset is pertinent.

I love this guy, Fernandez. So calmly, so clearly and so compellingly does he address the issue of rabid ideology of the type seen on the “left” against guns and on the “right” against abortion, and although the two sides violently disagree, they are spiritual siblings in their fanaticism.

FTA: "The progressive culture warriors and educators have spawned an entire generation of fanatics, who instead of taking academic speculation with a grain of salt, imbibed the fiery rhetoric seriously and are now an out-of-control zombie army. They are now firmly embedded in the Democratic party matrix, dug in too deep to root out. Unfortunately, like fanatics through history, many lack even a lick of common sense."
By their innate nature, leftists are fanatics who think and move without regard for the consequences of what they say and do. Those on the right side of the political spectrum tend not to be the activists; that would be against their nature. However, when one side pushes too far, the other side will push back, perhaps resorting to Alinskyite tactics themselves. Everything comes down to necessity.

This is another of Fernandez’s high water marks. It’s scope is terrifying. Each of these radical groups is a virus willing to kill the host. I don’t know how a strategy to get them to kill each other could be achieved.
Because they have in common nihilism not because they are nihilistic but because they elevate their cause above the infrastructure of technology and materials that make civilization possible and they would destroy the underpinnings of civilization- and thus civilization- to elevate their blindered ideologies.
The virus seems more advanced than ever before but hopefully prior generations thought so too. The dims are irrationality and violence, they are monkeys with handgrenades.

FTA: "The older generation of left politicians, warned by a childhood memory of reality, realize that unless the ideological zombies are stopped, they will precipitate blackouts, ruin the economy, and unleash a crime wave on the populace, not to mention starting witch hunts everywhere."
This is why Joe Biden was the UNIPARTY's man in '20. The mission was to displace and destroy Trump. And replace him with whom? Bernie and Warren were too "radical", although both thoroughly UNIPARTY. Joe was perfect, a known "moderate" who could resist the Squad and other tribes of crazies for four years until an alternative could be groomed. Joe's problem was himself and his failing health and mind, compounding his other well-known shortcomings. It allowed the radicals to crystallize much of their lunacy within the public - race, sex, guns, "green", and whatever else. They demanded action, which Biden was intended to block. He is a failing dam against the radical flow, and the public realizes that.
The Dems have a serious problem that will be exposed in '24. Its radicalism will lead to a McGovern-esque downfall beginning in '22. While conservatives will cheer, the UNIPARTY beat will go on. That's the beauty of the system.

I always thought that zombie movies were pretty stupid and boring, and I never intentionally watched one, although I have seen a few clips on TV, so have a rough idea of the ideas. I'm certainly no expert, but apparently all the movies say you have to shoot zombies in the head to stop them.
Perhaps we all need to be working on our marksmanship skills to keep them well honed in case this whole movie zombie stuff gets all "too real".

I'm not surprised that I grabbed the same paragraph as #4 to quote.
If these fanatics go too far, at least we have an effective way to defend ourselves from them.

I remember reading about the Red Guard years, how brutal and overboard they were. Professors and doctors and schoolteachers were humiliated and beaten to death as examples to others. There wasn’t a lot of info coming out of Red China but what we did hear of was just ghastly. Then if I remember correctly those little insane fanatics went too far and started attacking the really high up communist leaders and that’s when the ugly hammer dropped on them. Communist leader controlled death squads rounded up those students in droves and executed them in job lots. There were articles about those days in Life and Time and Saturday Evening Post. That’s where you had to go if you wanted to know anything in-depth about what was going on in the world. Horrible times. To this day I don’t understand the Chinese people. They will trade anything for stability.
Oops. Got way off the subject there.
