A 2021 C-SPAN survey of over 100 presidential historians ranked Franklin Roosevelt as our third greatest president, behind only Washington and Lincoln (but watch out, FDR is number three with a bullet).
Would FDR rank so high, however, if his racism was considered?
Of course, branding someone today as racist is one the most powerful cudgels that can be wielded. But the racism epithet has been appropriated almost exclusively by the left and, not surprisingly, left-of-center racism is rarely considered.
So, if FDR was a racist, why does he rank so high?

FDR, you mean the guy personally responsible for every American who died at least in the European theater over the last two years of the war by bowing to Stalin's wishes that extended the war so the Red Army could secure Eastern Europe? You mean the FDR who left 20,000 of our POW's captured by Germany then falling to the Soviets who just hung a new shingle "under new management" and let them rot do death? You mean the FDR who had our forces march ex Soviets back to Stalin only to see them hanging in the trees on their return? Or the FDR who handed Stalin the plans, uranium and aluminum needed to become a nuclear threat? You mean the guy who sent Alger Hiss to Yalta? Or possibly just the FDR that turned our depression into the great depression through a leap toward socialism?
Oh but the unforgiveable sin that is supposed to get me to reconsider my views on FDR, is racism? FDR opened the door to the communist coup that has come to fruition under Obama and Biden.
Buchanan, Wilson, FDR, Obama, Biden are in the hunt for the worst in history with an honorable mention to Carter.

FDR, wealthy because of capitalism, who espoused socialism. But, FDR , like so many wealthy politicians and other "reformers", didn't liquidate his assets to help those in need. Historians favor hypocrites who use other people's money for their good deeds.Witness today's "altruistic" dims spending our tax money, not their wealth

Only one President ever put US citizens in concentration camps because of their race/ethnicity. That President was Democrat idol FDR. Why hasn't he been cancelled? I still see his image on dimes and many roads and other things are named after him.

I remember about six weeks into Obama's first term, the local paper had an article about how historians consider B.O. the fifth greatest president.
Shortly thereafter he won a Nobel Prize.

FDR knew what Hitler was going to do with Jewish people and privately encouraged it.
He turned refugees back to Hitler.

Yes, #4. As I often tell people, Jesus command each of us to help others, He didn't say we could outsource it to our government. Also, if you are using other people's money, it is not charity.

I was never a fan of FDR because everything he did to help get the country out of the depression MADE IT WORSE and extended it. FDR was literally innumerate, couldn't grasp numbers and mathematics in any useful way. He attempted to run several businesses, starting with a lot of family money, and bankrupted each one quickly due to his total inability to grasp numbers. This innumeracy prevented him from being able to grasp the REAL solutions to the depression, and all his "compassionate solutions" made things worse.
He was a fairly good wartime leader, but had a treasonous communist Vice President who was feeding information to Stalin all along. Wallace was forced out for the final election, and Truman replaced him as VP and then President. We came very close to having a Communist traitor in the WH in 1945.
We'd have to wait until Obama showed up to break that barrier.

If you want some enlightenment about FDR, read "The Forgotten Man" by Amity Shlaes. It's a modern. well-researched history of the Great Depression. It reveals FDR as a real dunce. His administration was shot through with hard-core left-wingers of every stripe, including Communists. He once raised the price of gold by 21 cents an ounce; when asked why, he said that 21 was 3 times 7, and 7 is a lucky number. He was responsible for prolonging the Depression by about 7 or 8 years.

What people remember about Roosevelt is his management of the war. But it was his fortune to have the great General George C. Marshall as CHief of Staff for the Army, and field generals like Eisenhower, Bradley, Hap Arnold, and of course, George Patton. Chester Nimitz led the Navy. Real men were in charge, not the simps that Obama installed and are still there! The Great Depression allowed FDR to bring in his Socialist professors from Harvard to implement Keynesian Economic Theory, which is what set this country on today's socialist path. Pope Pius XII has been excoriated because it has been said that he did nothing to help the Jews during the war, but now we know that wasn't true. He had to walk a fine line between speaking openly about Hitler and preserving the Vatican. If you want to talk racism and antisemitism, look no further than FDR. And today's ills can be laid at the feet of the Democrat God Roosevelt with his economic policies in the 1930's. Hoover gets blame for the Depression, but he was the one who said to leave things alone and the situation will correct itself. As the article points out, the Depression would have been over in 1936, not 1941. As the economy was recovering in 1937, he raised taxes because there was a deficit in the budget. That stretched the downturn for four more years. The War, saved Roosevelt's bacon. Yet the public loved him, especially the blacks, and we had Democrats in charge of the government for most of the years from 1964 until the Gingrich Revolution. You have seen now how Democrats manage to screw things up from Kennedy to now!

Even without the racism, he was the first president to try hard to destroy America as founded. Liberals used his supposed rescue of America from the great depression as well as learned that they should never let any good crisis go to waste. Since Roosevelt, the answer to any crisis has been more government throwing more taxpayer money at a problem.
We now know that Roosevelt did not lead us out of the depression, but actually made things worse, while expanding government greatly and taking away our freedoms as well as states rights.
He gets rehabilitated to a certain extent for his job in leading America through World War II. I think most Americans and many historians would agree that, while he did make some mistakes, his leader ship during the war was key in helping America and the allies win the war.
